"My lord, you have returned."
I took a couple of steps back and looked around, looking for the source of the voice, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
"Who are you? And where are you?" I asked.
Mey had a look of utter confusion on her face, and so did Penelope.
"Can you guys not hear that voice?" I asked them.
They both looked at me and asked, "What voice?"
I guess that's a no, but who would call me "My lord"? I tried to force memories to come back to me, but nothing worked.
The voice was quiet; it didn't even answer my question. Maybe it knew that I was talking to Mey and Penelope, so it didn't interrupt.
Just as I thought this, the voice boomed again.
"Are you done talking to the two wenches?" He sounded disgusted that I was even talking to women.
"What the fuck? Wenches?" Penelope sounded angry, although I guess getting called a wench would make any woman angry, but Mey reverted to her usual calm expression, seemed like she didn't care about being called a wench.
"Why can they hear you now?" I asked.
"Simply because I allowed them to." The voice said.
Penelope scoffed, "So, you just wanted us to hear you call us wenches."
"Indeed." The voice said simply.
"Well, anyway, who are you, and why did you call me 'My lord"?
"It seems I was mistaken. You share blood with my lord, but you are not him." The voice paused as if thinking, "Are you perhaps his offspring?"
"I don't know, I've had all my memories sealed away," I said. "But who was your master?"
"His name was Eidonel."
Hearing the name, my head started pounding, and I fell to my knees, the world cracked around me, then it shattered. I closed my eyes, then when I opened them, I wasn't on the dirty floor of the rundown church; I was on a nice marble floor, on one knee.
"Kai, you're still too young to fight in this war." The man's voice was calm, but it held absolute power.
"Please let me fight, sir." I sounded like I was about twelve, I wasn't sure though, my voice came out shaky.
"No, it's not only because you're young, but also because, if people learn about your origins, they will try to kidnap you, or worse, brainwash you to fight for them."
"All this talk about my origins, yet I don't even know my own origins. It's not fair that I'm not allowed to fight because of something I don't know or can't control."
Seems like even back then, I didn't know my own origins, but if the name Eidonel caused this memory, that means that's most likely who I'm talking to right now.
"Sorry, Kai... but it's confidential, the only person in Luminaris that knows is me. Not even my trusted advisors know."
Luminaris must be what the angel realm is called, but the question is, he said, the only person in Luminaris that knows, does that mean that other people know in the other realms? But if it's so confidential, how did it spread that far?
Are people trying to find me right now? Eidonel said that people would try to kidnap me or brainwash me to fight for them. And still, I don't even know why.
God, this is so frustrating. I pounded my fist on the ground, got up, and walked out of the room. Apparently, current me and past me thought the same thing.
Then the memory ended, and I was back on the dirty floor of the rundown church.
"Kai!" Penelope's voice rang in my ears, making my headache worse. "Kai! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine." I sat up and looked around the room.
Mey had her usual calm expression on her face. She'd seen me collapse before, after getting a memory, so it's nothing new for her, but she had my head on her lap. However, Penelope, on the other hand, had her face right next to my ear. Her eyes were glossy, and her hands hovered just above my shoulders like she wanted to help but didn't know how.
"Jeez, no wonder you were so loud." I put my pinky finger in my ear and twisted it around.
"Sorry, Kai, I was just really worried." She sounded sad.
"It's fine, but please, the next time I collapse, don't yell into my ear."
I got back on my feet, then the regal voice sounded again, this time it was in my head.
"Interesting, you really did have your memories sealed. In that case, I'll give you some power to help you out until you unlock the rest of your memories."
"What do you gain out of this?" I asked, but the voice didn't respond.
I felt power coursing through me, runes appeared all over my body, then disappeared as fast as they came. Then my fists suddenly caught fire, but that too also disappeared as fast as it appeared. Then it felt like my tongue caught fire, but just like the last two, that also faded just as fast as it came.
"What... did you... do to me?" I asked through heavy breaths.
However, the voice did not respond; it was already gone.
What the hell was that? Runes, flames, and my tongue? What did he do to me? I have to be honest, I do feel a lot more powerful now, though.
"Come on, guys, let's get going." I said as I walked past Mey and Penelope.
They both looked at me, confused as I walked past, but they eventually followed.
As we were walking back to our hideout, a light appeared in the sky. Mey turned invisible again and pulled Penelope away.
"Try out your new powers," Mey whispered in my ear. "If you need help, just ask and I'll be there."
I nodded, and out of the light, descended 5 angels.
I cracked my neck and fingers, then stretched my legs.
"Last time I fought you angels, I nearly died. Let's see if that's the case now." I said with a crooked smile.
