Chapter 10 - A Land or its People

Kin and Minevi stood outside of the Palace of the Kings, home to the Jarl and epicenter of Windhelm itself. There were two guards standing outside with unfavorable expressions about their faces. They were scowling at Minevi mostly. It was well known that an Imperial envoy was visiting the city. It seemed they were among the ones who were not so pleased with Imperials being let into their walls. Minevi paid them no mind. Through out their entire stay in Windhelm she had not once hidden who or what she was. Kin took notice of her steel resolve. This must be what it means to fly colors of any kind. You have to be willing to wear them like your skin, or not at all. The men must have been under strict orders. As much as they seemed to want to spit in her face, they resisted the urge to do so. Two large doors separated by stone stood before them, with a torch bowl in between. Soon, the door to the left opened up as the guard in front stepped to the side. Minevi then entered, followed by Kin. As they walked past the guard, Kin noticed his glare never once left Her. It followed her until she was through the door as he muttered under his breath.

Guard: Watch your back, Imperial bitch.

It was as if she didn't even hear it. Her stride never broke. Her calm expression remained uncracked. Kin wasn't pleased with the statement at all, but he took her attitude as a statement to him. "Be unbreaking." It whispered. Once inside, they were now in a large thrown room with a long table in the middle, and the thrown just at the end of the room. There seemed to be no one around except the occasional house servant walking about. The guard at the door reached in to close it behind them.

Guard: Jarl'll be right with you. Good luck. (Closes door)

Minevi: Kin.

Kin: Yes?

Minevi: When asked, I want you to just be honest. Ok?

Kin: Easy for you to say,…I just trashed half of this guy's city.

Minevi: Doesn't matter. I want you to tell the truth. No matter what.

Kin: Sure, it's your show after all.

It seemed he would have to trust her on this. He was never intending to lie, but the thought of telling a king you've just destroyed parts of his home wasn't very appealing either. Shortly after, a burly man wearing spiked leather armor and a bear skin cowl stepped into the room. He had a large bushy blond beard that was beaded at the bottom, and muscles that pretty much jumped out at you. His cowl was that of a bears head, with both its claws draped over each shoulder. He was definitely a warrior, a hardened one at that. He stopped once completely in the room. He looked at the two of them with disgust, almost unwilling to even acknowledge them.

Minevi: Ah,…Galmar Stone-Fist I presume.

He stared silently for a moment before taking out a knife from his waistband. He then walked over to the bowl of fruit on the table and violently stabbed the knife into it. This startled Kin for a moment. He did his very best to seem unfazed as he watched the man pull the knife out with an apple now stuck to it.

Galmar: You presume right. (Takes bite of apple)

The crunch was all Kin could hear. The sound bounced off of the wall in the large hall, breaking every thought he tried to form in his head.

Minevi: Well,…we're here. Isn't your King suppose to be as well?

Galmar: Silence woman.

He slowly walked up to Minevi still taking bites from the apple. He chewed like a wild person, with parts of the apple getting stuck in his beard once it escaped his mouth. He was now face to face with Minevi, staring her dead in the eyes without breaking.

Galmar: I'm not sure what Ulfric thinks is going to come of this talk, or why he'd even bother with diplomacy at this point, but I want you to know, that if it were up to me you'd have been dead before your foot touched a stone in our city.

Minevi: (Smirks) Oh stop,…I bet you say that to all the pretty Imperial soldiers.

Galmar gritted his teeth at the remark, unable to handle being mocked after such a serious threat.

Galmar: Listen to me, wench,…

Voice: Galmar.

The voice came from a man walking into the room. Kin knew that voice. How could he ever forget it? The only person that seemed to understand him during that time was standing right at the end of the room, Ulfric Stormcloak. He calmly walked over to his thrown and took a seat.

Ulfric: I appreciate you greeting our guests, but I will take over from here.

Galmar held his gaze for a moment longer before scoffing and turning his back to them.

Galmar: As you wish my king.

He then walked over toward Ulfric and took his place at his side, though he seemed unhappy with it. Ulfric sat on his thrown lazily while fidgeting with the rings on his fingers. His look was intense yet somehow disconnected.

Ulfric: You Imperials really have some gall, you know that? You send word of wanting to discuss temporary peace, and then you tear up my city in a street fight. Now,…tell me why I shouldn't throw you both back in chains.

Kin immediately stepped forward.

Kin: I was the one involved in the fight. I acted alone, not on behalf of the Empire I assure you. Please, hear what she has to say. Punish me and me alone for the damages.

Ulfric looked upon Kin for a moment. He knew the dragonborn would be present, but he was not looking at the same boy that rode in the carriage with him that day.

Ulfric: Ah,…and the young Dragonborn himself. It's been a while hasn't it? Tell me,…what exactly did you think you were doing when you started a fight in my house?

Kin remembered Minevi's earlier request, and steeled himself for what he was about to say.

Kin: I,…I was attempting to end the series of murders plaguing this town. We learned that it was a man known as the Butcher behind them. I met great resistance, and ultimately wasn't able to catch him.

Galmar: Ha,…the boy fancies himself some sort of hero does he? Wake up lad,…this is the real world. Not a place to live out fantasies of heroism.

Ulfric raises his hand to signal Galmar to be quiet.

Ulfric: Protecting the people isn't as easy as you thought it would be, yes?

Kin: I was just doing what I thought was right. It wasn't my intention to cause any trouble.

Ulfric: And yet it is all you have to show for your actions. I sure hope this message from General Tullius is worth sparing the both of you from our gallows. I was indeed looking forward to seeing you again dragonborn, but these are times of war you see, and an example must be set for the people. So,…(leans forward) out with it.

Minevi steps forward.

Minevi: I'm sure you are aware of the dragon crisis taking hold of Skyrim. After all,…you were there the day it started, yes? These attacks are surely a strain on us all, rendering most of our major holds stretched thin. It's not the sort of thing we should be facing while so divided, wouldn't you agree?

Ulfric lowers his face in to his palm while chuckling to himself.

Ulfric: So the great General Tullius is asking for our assistance with the wyrms?

Minevi: Not necessarily. Just a temporary ceasefire until they can be dealt with. We understand both sides cannot simply lay down arms and hold hands, but maybe it would solidify more resources if we were not currently at war. Surely your men would sleep better at night not having to fight a war on multiple fronts, even if only for a short while.

Ulfric: I refuse.

Kin: What!?

Minevi: You can't be serious?

Ulfric: Once again the Empire undermines us as a people. The dragon crisis as well as everything else in Skyrim, belongs to us. This is our problem. We do not need aid nor do we need other powers stepping in to solve our issues. We are at war,…and until the Empire learns its place, we will remain so.

Kin: This is bigger than your stupid war! Why can't you see that?

Galmar: Hold your tongue boy!

Ulfric: Tell me dragonborn. Do you know what makes for an ideal time to do battle?

Kin: No,…No I don't.

Ulfric: It is when the battlefield is dangerous for both sides. The dragons offer us a unique opportunity you see. Skyrim has now become such a battlefield. Danger around the corner on each side. Each one forced to either adapt, or die. This sort of adversity is what this land needs to evolve, to become something greater.

Minevi: You actually intend to keep fighting under these conditions? What about the people who can't fight? Have you thought about how many of them will get swallowed up in your perfect battlefield?

Ulfric: Sadly, it is the price of freedom. Run and tell Tullius that. I'll grant you safe passage for that at least.

Kin: That's bullshit! Your men are already stretched thin as it is. This entire city is riddled with racism and bigotry. Dark elves treated like wretches, all forced to stay in the slums. The "Grey Quarter"? What's that about? Those people came to you for asylum and because they're not Nords, they get shit on by everyone here. The city guard can't even deal with one serial killer in their own yard. Do you even care about the innocent women that died on your watch?

Galmar: (Takes great axe in hand) I won't say it again lad! This is the true High King in which you speak!

Ulfric: (Stands up from thrown) So you,…an outsider thinks that he knows what's best for Skyrim better than I?

Kin lowered his head and smiled. It was almost a nervous chuckle, an attempt to mitigate the frustration he felt no doubt. His fists clenched up tight as he struggled to keep his composure before responding. He then took a deep breath.

Kin: Skyrim? No you've got it wrong. I don't give a shit about this place. Its done nothing but try to eat me alive from the moment I got here. To hell with this god forsaken land of yours. I care about the people! While you're out fighting the Empire tooth and nail for every scrap of land, your people are suffering. And if you don't care enough to at least protect those within these walls, you don't deserve the title of King.

The room went silent almost immediately. Galmar was outraged at Kin's outburst, but Ulfric remained calm, although slightly appearing to be offended. Kin realized he had blown his top on a king. He didn't mean to blow up, not with things so delicately hanging in the balance, but it was all he could do to keep from exploding inside. He immediately threw his hand over his mouth as he looked over at Minevi.

Minevi: Kin,…

Kin: I'm sorry!

He then made a bee line for the door, desperate to make an exit and disappear.

Minevi: Kin wait! Where are you-

He felt shame for not being as cool headed as Minevi. He wanted to help her, but it seemed all he could do was make things worse. He needed a place to be alone and think, although he didn't have one in mind. He just kept walking until all he could hear was the whistle of the wind. Before he knew it, he was standing in the snow surrounded by trees. He hadn't even noticed that he was completely outside of the city. His anger was eating him alive from the inside out. How could Ulfric be so cruel and careless to his own people? The women murdered by the Butcher deserved better than this. All Ulfric can concern himself with is this blasted war. Kin's emotions had become a twisting storm inside of him. He dropped to his knees in the snow, holding the neck of his cloak over his face in an attempt to silence his frustrated growling. He sat in the snow, trying to quell his mind. Suddenly the winds changed, almost like it was being pushed by something. He was too wrapped up in grief to notice the sound of large flapping wings, that were then followed by a rumbling thud. The landing kicked up wind furiously, blowing his hair and cloak forward with force. He finally snapped out of it after the noise ceased. He slowly turned to see what looked like death itself emerging from the kicked up snow. It was a dragon, but this one looked different. It was covered in green scales, and its horns all formed one plate on its head that resembled a crown. Its eyes were a fiery gold. Kin could only see him if nothing else through all of the twisting snow. It slowly walked up to kin. He stared at him intensely, as if ready to pounce.

Dragon: Yeeeessss. Give me more.

Kin was frozen in place. He knew this dragon was not like the rest. He couldn't even muster a response to the beast at first. He slowly turned to face the creature.

Kin: Give you,…what?

Dragon: The hate in your heart,…it is like a song caught in the wind. It is what lead me here. The pain, the anguish…succulent emotions are they not? I thought I would find another dova when I arrived, but it is only you. (Lowers head closer) Tell me,…how do you have the soul of my kin?

Kin: I'm,…not exactly sure myself, but I am apparently the dragonborn.

Dragon: Apparently? Are you not certain of who you are?

The dragon began to slowly circle Kin while occasionally spouting air from its nostrils. It seemed to be studying him. Kin couldn't make heads or tails of what its intentions were. All he could do was watch the creature while frozen in place. Suddenly, something more important than his fear popped into his head. He suddenly forgot how afraid he was.

Kin: Are you here,…to attack this city?

The dragon was tempted to laugh at the question. It suddenly stopped strafing and tilted its head.

Dragon: Those walls have nothing for me but spikes and traps. I am here because I followed the scent of the sweetest emotions, and oh what a surprise I found.

Kin: So you're not going to harm them?

Dragon: Sadly the risk outweighs the reward. I have no intention to hunt the ones within those walls. But the enemy of my brethren,…(Begins showing teeth). I could most definitely go for a bite of you.

Kin's eyes widened immediately, unprepared for the dragon's answer. The dragon then raised both of its wings high in the air while standing up straight. It then let out a booming roar as it flung its wings forward to push itself off of the ground. This created a massive gust of wind. Kin threw his arms up in front of him and tried to keep himself planted, but it was too great of a force. He eventually lost his footing and was flung back violently down the hill behind him. He tumbled through the snow, sliding to a halt after passing between the trees. He sprung up quickly, but was a bit disoriented from the spin. He dropped to a knee and took a moment to shake it off. In his daze, he thought about how often death has come for him, and how familiar the feeling has become. Strangely enough, it seemed to have brought him some sense of amusement. A smile made it onto his face as he stood up slowly.

Kin: What gives with this place anyway? Is that all there is here? Death? (chuckles to himself)

He could see the dragon landing just behind the trees and beginning a slow march in his direction.

Kin: I'm exhausted,…(leans back and faces the sky while smiling) honestly,…I just don't think I have it any more.

The dragon's head was now beginning to emerge from the trees as he grew closer to Kin. It was snarling and shooting smoke through its nostrils.

Kin: If this place wants me dead so bad. Come and get me damn it.

Kin heard a guard by the city yell out.

Guard: Hey stop him!

He turn to see a cloaked man running while carrying things in his arms. Kin knew the man hadn't noticed the dragon coming from the woods just up the hill. He tried to snap himself out of his daze to say something. He stepped forward, stumbling a bit in the snow.

Kin: Hey! Turn back! There's,…

He stopped as the man crossed in-between him and the dragon. He saw him more clearly now, and realized what the man was carrying, were human limbs. One or two of them had fallen into the snow as he ran. His hood gave way just enough for Kin to see the man's face. It was Calixto Corrium. That's when he realized that he was the butcher. His eyes widened furiously as he watched the man run from the guards.

Kin: You,…

Gavhelus and Taviiah came running down the long stone bridge shortly after. They both saw Kin standing in the snowy field as Calixto attempted to escape.

Taviiah: Wait Gav,…is that?

Gavhelus: Yeah that's our lad. The hell's going on out here?

Suddenly one of the guards screamed, as he lost balance and fell on the bridge.

Guard: By the gods! It's a bloody dragon!

Gavhelus and Taviiah Looked out past Calixto and Kin, spotting the dragon coming down the hill. They noticed Kin's attention wasn't on the beast but on Calixto. The man tried to run as best he could but the snow worked against him. Out of nowhere the jaws of the beast appeared around him, and in the blink of an eye, they snapped shut. Calixto's body exploded in the dragon's mouth, sending limbs and blood everywhere. Kin stood in shock as blood began to rain down on him. He couldn't believe it. As soon as he spotted the murderer, he was killed right in front of him. This threw Kin into a rage.

Kin: Son of a bitch! That kill was mine!

That's when he felt it, the lump in his throat. It was a fire building up inside him just like the day his father was killed. This time he didn't care about keeping it in. All he could see at this point was red. Suddenly he opened his mouth to scream, and fire came shooting out of his mouth in the direction of the dragon. The creature quickly made itself airborne to dodge the attack. The flames left a path of melted snow and burned trees. It flapped its wings rapidly to gain altitude.

Kin: Oh no you don't!

Gavhelus: Wait lad! That ain't a normal dragon!

It was too late. Kin shouted himself into the air toward the dragon. His speed was insane. Soon he was over the dragon while in the air. He took a deep breath and released another fire shout at it. It was quickly dodged and countered. The dragon released a constant fire blast in Kin's direction. He quickly force shouted himself away from the attack, spinning himself to throw a curve in his trajectory.

Taviiah: Gav we have to stop him! He's not thinking clearly.

Gavhelus: How do you plan on doin' that love? I mean look at'm,…he's fightin' like one of them now.

They both looked from the ground as Kin and the dragon had a dog fight in the air above the town. The guards all looked on in fear. Some of them ran to barricade the city and warn the towns folk. A panic was slowly spreading throughout the city. The people outside on the docks were all scrambling to get back inside the safety of the walls. Minevi came running down the bridge toward them.

Minevi: Oh thank goodness I found you all. I heard there was a commotion just outside of the city. I came running in hopes that Kin didn't do something cra-

She stopped talking after looking up and seeing the fight happening high above their heads.

Minevi: A dragon? That can't be,…by the divines is that Kin?

Gavhelus: Fraid so,…kid's gone and lost it trying to kill the thing.

Minevi: How is this even possible? How can he stay up there with that thing?

Gavhelus: Something he used to practice during his training. Didn't think he'd be able to do all this with it though. He's more than likely moving off pure instinct. But that beast ain't your average dragon for sure.

Kin and the dragon circled each other in the sky while shooting fire at one another. Clashing with blade and claw in between shouts. Kin was not thinking at all. Only rage occupied his mind while he wrestled with the beast.

Dragon: Good! Let the rage consume you child.

Kin shouted himself toward the dragon with two bound swords ready. The dragon had been toying with him, amused by the fiery heart of its opponent. Kin was doing what no man had ever dreamed of, taking the fight to the skies.

Dragon: Let us continue until that same rage turns to fear!

They clashed violently, sending one shockwave after another in each direction. On the last clash, the dragon managed to catch his blade in its mouth as it flew higher. Kin then leaned in closer to the beast.

Kin: I'm not afraid of you,…not anymore. I just want you dead!

Kin dispersed the bound sword and used his other blade to slash the dragon near the eye. The wound was not deep, but it was enough to make it turn away as Kin continued up a bit higher. The dragon became angry and circled around to attack him from below. Kin hung in the air, slowly rotating while summoning another bound blade. The dragon made an upward charge at him. That's when Kin gave his body to the winds, causing him to spiral downward while picking up speed. Each spin was smaller than the one before, circling until he was speeding right towards the dragon. He then flung both of his arms back to one side and threw himself into a spin right as the dragon approached. He used the force of the spin to evade the dragons mouth right as it passed, and continued spinning down the spine, slicing with each rotation until he cut the very end of its tail off. The dragon screamed in pain. It quickly stopped its ascent and circled horizontally. Kin floated beneath it preparing for another attack. He then force shouted his way up to the dragon while swinging his blades. It quickly maneuvered around his attack and circled behind him. Kin force shouted to a stop, and turned himself to find the beast. Before he could lay eyes on it, the creature dashed past him quick as lightning. They all watched Kin's body spin as the dragon flew by.

Taviiah: No! He's hurt!

Blood was now in the air as Kin hung above them no longer moving. The dragon had taken the lower part of his right arm, and was swooping around to line itself up for the finishing blow. Kin's eyes were now blank white from the shock of the pain. His body twisted in the air with blood spewing from his arm, but the dragon was not done with him. It charged at Kin while opening its jaws.

Gavhelus: Dear divines,…It's over for him.

The dragon snapped its jaws shut as it passed by, and just like that, Kin could no longer be seen in the air. All that was left behind was a dispersing mist. Taviiah threw her hands over her mouth in an attempt to hold back a scream while tears formed in her eyes. It was only mere seconds but it felt as if time was stopped in that moment. They all fell silent in disbelief. The worst had just happened. Before they could let out the breath that had been trapped in their lungs, a man popped out of a grey smoke cloud right in front of them. He tumbled for a bit and then stopped on one knee. They were shocked to see that he was holding in his arms what looked like Kin. He sat him down on the ground as everyone struggled to process what was happening. Kin suddenly jumped to life, screaming in agony. It seemed he had finally awaken to the pain. The man pulled back his hood. It was Eradros in his full nightingale armor.

Eradros: Can someone help he's losing blood?!

Taviiah was in shock. She stood there trembling with emotion as everyone rushed over to help Eradros. She fell to her knees trying to catch her breath.

Gavhelus: Hold him down, we gotta tie up his arm to stop the bleeding!

Minevi stood over them unable to form her words. She stared at Eradros while he and Gavhelus wrestled with Kin, who was literally kicking and screaming.

Minevi: Eradros,…is that really you?

He looked up at her briefly before going back to tending to Kin.

Eradros: Yes it's me. Sorry I couldn't get here (Grunts) sooner.

He finished tightening a torn cloth from his cape around Kin's arm and stepped away while Gavhelus took over. He then took a deep breath and walked over to Taviiah.

Eradros: And you must be the childhood friend Minevi wrote about. Can you look after him? We're still not out of the woods yet with this dragon.

She sat for a moment staring blankly in Kin's direction. The dragon circled widely overhead, shrieking with frustration having missed its prey.

Minevi: You,…got my letters?

Eradros: I was with the guild. You don't think they'd let a piece of parchment with my name on it go unmentioned do you?

She paused for a moment, but before she could answer, they all heard the sound of marching. Eradros and Minevi turned to see Ulfric and a small battalion of soldiers making their way across the main bridge leading into Windhelm. Once they saw the dragon flying over head, it all became real for them. You could see the panic on some of the soldier's faces. Still, they marched behind Ulfric until they were all off of the bridge. Ulfric looked around for a moment. He saw Kin lying on the ground being nursed by Gavhelus.

Ulfric: Was the boy trying to fell a blood dragon?

Minevi: Blood dragon?

Gavhelus: I knew that thing wasn't bloody normal! Kid put up a good fight though, all things considered, but we gotta get him out of here before it realizes where he's at.

Ulfric: I did not think we'd come face to face with one right outside our gates. The beast must have been attracted to something.

Minevi: None of that matters. This is precisely what we were warning you about. Kin has been out here fighting for your people while you wage war from a throne. He is only one person and he can't do this by himself, dragonborn or not. We're going to need all hands on deck if we are to survive this. Do you get it now?

Ulfric kept his glance on the dragon while pondering her words. Despite the chaos, he was calm.

Ulfric: It seems I underestimated your claims. This will require all of our immediate attention.

He then walked to the rear of all the soldiers.

Ulfric: Archers ready!

Suddenly, eight of the men in front dropped to their knees and raised bows high in the air. They were preparing to shoot the wyrm out of the sky. The dragon noticed all the men standing in front of the bridge, and then it noticed Kin. The boy was still reeling in pain from the loss of his arm. The dragon stopped circling and hovered over all of them. The flaps of its wings forced the winds downward upon the soldiers. They struggled to keep their weapons aimed. Gavhelus looked up, noticing the dragon opening its mouth and taking a large breath.

Gavhelus: Guys,…I think its up to something!

Before anyone could react, an orb of fire appeared in the dragon's mouth. It burned hot while it grew larger, setting off sparks around the dragon's face. With a forceful shout, the dragon fired the blast downward in their direction. Eradros quickly grabbed Minevi and Taviiah while leaping to the ground before it struck. The very moment the orb touched the ground, everything went silent for just a second. Then a large explosion went off, sending flames in every direction, and blowing everyone off of their feet. Some of the soldiers died on impact, while others scrambled to keep flames from overtaking them. The blast caused massive damage to the immediate area. Eradros quickly came too, realizing what had just happened. He was disoriented and could barely see through all the smoke. His ears were ringing fiercely as he struggled to gain his bearings. All he could hear was muffled panicking and screaming. He slowly stood up and looked around, crying out for his companions fearing the worst.

Eradros: Kin! Gav! Damn it Where are you?!

He saw Gavhelus on the ground, using his body as a shield for Kin, though they were both unconscious. He looked down to see Minevi and Taviiah were also knocked out cold and injured, but alive. The flames before him were high, making him unable to see past them, but he was able to make out a silhouetted figure with glowing red eyes beyond the flames. It was the dragon. It had landed and was slowly marching up to them through the fire. It kept up a low and menacing growl as it approached, each step making the ground tremble. Eradros went to move toward Kin and Gavhelus, but quickly dropped to one knee, realizing he was badly injured.

Eradros: AAARGH! (Breathes heavily) I have to get up,…It can't end like this. Not now.

The dragon stopped and stood amongst the flames. Embers fluttered out of its snout and up into the blotted sky. Its head was raised proudly as it basked in the ambience of its own destruction. Ulfric was pressed against the front most stone arch of the bridge. He was caught under the weight of a corpse, one of his men that had thrown themselves in front of him in the blast. He struggled to push the body off of him. Once he was able to get free, he sat against the wall in confusion and shock. He struggle to catch his breath while surveying the aftermath. Men were dead, the bridge damaged, and the dragon, though injured was still on the attack. He looked next to him at the corpse on the ground. A steel great sword was strapped to the soldier's back, never even drawn. His legs were numb, and he could barely move his body, but he struggled over to the weapon and pulled it from the sheath. Once acquired, he leaned back against the stone wall, taking a moment to face his almost assured death. His vision was wavering, but he could see clearly the giant beast standing yards away from Eradros. The dragon raised its wings. The wind kicked up, almost blowing Eradros completely to the ground. It then opened its mouth and let out a bellowing roar. The suspense was beginning to take hold of Ulfric. He held the sword upright and gripped it tightly, even screaming back at the dragon out of anxiety.

Female voice: I'll take that thanks.

The sword was quickly snatched out of Ulfric's hand. He looked up in shock. It was a very tall Orkish woman walking past him with the great sword in hand. She was wearing partial Orkish armor with the thighs, abdomen, and arms visible. She was muscular yet very lean, and she had a long twisting burgundy braid trailing down from her helmet. The woman walked toward the dragon. She watched for a moment as it continued to roar loudly. She then held her arm out toward the beast while flipping the great sword up into her hand like a javelin.

Orc Woman: Alright now, you've had your fun, but I've business to handle.

She then launched the sword directly at the dragon's head with monstrous force. The sword went straight through the dragon's brain through the roof of its mouth. Its roar was immediately ended. Its wings fell slowly as the beast began to tip over. Its eyes were now blank and lifeless. Eradros could not believe what he had just witnessed. The dragon fell completely to the ground now dead. The gust from the impact pushed back some of the flames, enough for Eradros to clearly see the woman. He watched as she dusted her hands off, satisfied with her results.

Orc Woman: (Sigh) Glad I got that out of the way quickly.

She then walked over to the dragon's corpse, stepping into its open mouth to retrieve the blade from its head. The dragon's soul began to rise out of its body and transfer into Kin's. This immediately woke he and Gavhelus up. He began grunting and reeling from the pain once more. Sweat began pouring from his head profusely. Gavhelus picked himself up and attempted to grab Kin before he hurt himself.

Gavhelus: It's ok kid I gotcha'. You've gotta calm down though or else you'll go into shock again! I know it hurts,…but you've got to keep fighting it.

Kin heeded his words and attempted to calm himself. The soul transference was complete, though he was still shaking and breathing heavily while gritting his teeth. His eyes red from the strain of enduring the injury. Eradros looked back at the two of them, hoping everything was fine. Gavhelus gave him confirmation that things were under control.

Gavhelus: I've got'm. We're good,…I think.

Eradros let out a sigh of relief while lowering his head. He stared at the ground while trying to regain his composure. Then he heard footsteps getting closer to him, but before he could look up, he heard the sling of a blade being pointed at him. He raised his head to see the Orc woman standing before him with the bloodied great sword pointed directly at his face.

Orc Woman: Eradros Duskthorn,…You're coming with me.
