He had prepared himself to have to fight her when he made it through the doors of Tartarus, but there had been nobody waiting for him as he shuffled out. Rys' corpse provided him with the reason why, but he was too exhausted and injured to try and find an explanation.
His body hit the wooden floor with a thud, leaving only a wolf pup as the sole sign of life in the cabin. It let out a breath as if sighing in annoyance and doubled in size before biting down gently on Cohle's arm and pulling him out of the botfly and stench infested structure.
