Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Rejecting An Invitation

Inside were many different types of tea. Jasmine, ginger, mint, and many others, from brands she was barely familiar with but could tell, were very foreign and looked very expensive. Also in the basket, were pastries, fresh buns and croissants, and other pastries that went well with tea.

There was an envelope placed just on top of the teas, and Kaitlyn grabbed it. She had a guess who this was from but refused to think it was actually for her. There, in finely typed she read: Kaitlyn. Consider this an official apology for leaving so abruptly last night. I look forward to having tea with you again, join me for dinner tonight. RL.

She felt her breath hitch. Was this sent before or after she had walked into his office and he had given her the job? She thought, shoving the possibility that was after far at the back of her head. It made no logical sense, that he would ask her for dinner while knowing he worked for her now.

Maybe this package was sent earlier this morning, she agreed.

She put away the contents of the basket, placing the pastries on the counter and the tea in the top cabinets of the kitchen.

Then hid the basket in her room, not wanting to answer questions from her roommate. She went back to work on her computer, deciding to arrange her new Boss's schedule a bit and look through the ones for next week.

Then her phone rang, and an unknown caller's number flashed on the screen.

"Hello?" she answered just as she picked up.

"Kaitlyn." She heard his voice from the other side of the phone, the same as yesterday and the same as earlier. Only this time, his voice successfully brought back everything she felt last night; she sat in her kitchen at a loss for words.

"Join me for dinner." He said again, his voice not leaving any room for a negative answer.

Kaitlyn still felt stunned. Did her boss just call her as her boss or as a man who held her and kissed her in all the right places last night?

"Excuse me, sir?" she managed to choke out. Her voice was smaller than she intended it to be.

"Are you free this evening?" He asked further.

"Excuse me but this is Mr Lennox?." She asked, almost unsure and hoping to hear the man say no, that this was his double and they were in no way related.

"Yes, and Mr Lennox would love to have you for dinner." He insisted, his voice sounding more playful on the other side of the phone.

"You just gave me a job sir." She pointed out, unsure of how to react to this.

"Yes." He said simply.

"I am your assistant starting Monday." She pointed out again, saying each word slowly and pronouncing each perfectly, to make sure she wasn't missing anything.

"Yes. 7 sharp. Now will you join me for dinner?"

"If I refuse?" she asked carefully, not quite sure if those were the right things to ask her new boss, she regretted her words just as they came out of her mouth.

"Are you declining my offer to take you to dinner?" He questioned.

"I wouldn't want to complicate our relationship any further sir." Her voice was shaky, she hoped he hadn't caught on to that.

"I completely understand. See you Monday." He said, then the line went dead.

Kaitlyn still sat frozen, then took a huge exhale.

"Fuck!" She said out loud.

The conversations played in a loop in her head for the rest of the day. Even while she tried to distract herself with some Netflix, she still thought about the phone call. No, she hadn't just imagined it. Yes, he did ask her to go to dinner. Yes, she refused the offer. The most logical thing in the interaction was that she refused. Was he insane?

Pursuing a relationship with his new assistant? Was that his normal? Kaitlyn was convinced that her new boss was just a raging Casanova, who did not consider major boundaries.

She also thought what if she only got the job because of that?

But that was insane, she was more than qualified. Even too qualified.

But despite all the obvious possibilities that circled her mind, what she could not stop thinking about was last night.

The way his hand held on to her, the way his lips found their way to all the right places. He left her hungry, that was for sure.

Her phone suddenly rang, pulling her out of her messy thoughts.

"Oh thank God." She said with an exhale immediately after she picked up the phone.

"Nice to hear your voice too." Gregory joked from the other side of her phone, making her chuckle as well.

"How were your interviews?" He asked.

"I got the assistant position at Rollex Enterprise", she said happily, the joy of finally getting a job in the city now settling on her as her friend gasped happily from the other side of the phone.

"Amazing. That company, that's a big one honey. I'm sure their pay is very generous. He gushed.

"I haven't even gotten to that." She said more to herself, feeling stupid for not going through the contract yet.

"What? What happened?" Gregory asked, concerned about lacing his voice. He always knew when she was hiding something.

"Come over, we'll order in and I'll tell you all about it." She offered.

"30 minutes," Gregory said before the call was silent.

"Hold on. He's your boss!" Gregory pointed out with his eyebrows furrowed and his voice several pitches

higher.

"I know, "Kaitlyn said, sounding defeated, almost feeling guilty for her thoughts.

"Wait. You still want him, don't you?" Gregory accused. It was barely an accusation; it was very obvious that she was swooning over her boss; she wondered how well she would have to hide it on Monday.

"Doesn't matter. I shut it down." She said, her voice almost sounded disappointed.

"You don't sound relieved, honey you should sound relieved.

You don't want to complicate things. Usually, I would go for it; I mean, you, I need a good fuck. But no, this is my job. A good job." She emphasized, pointing to the papers scattered on her desk; she had seen her salary amount. It was well above average, with several other benefits.

Kaitlyn wasn't stupid enough to let something like this sabotage a very good opportunity.

"You're right." she admitted, then took a sip of her drink.

"Of course I'm right." Gregory amended. They were both lying down on her bed, after having some takeout. Gregory was now filled with the whole 'Mr Lennox' situation just like she thought.

He set her head straight, removing any doubt in her mind about how she would handle the situation. She was his assistant. There were no buts, she would have to bury the images and scenes of the heated night. He was her boss, that was final.
