Chapter 2 - forgotten character

**Chapter Two**

I looked in the mirror and saw a boy with black hair streaked with a pale white hue and beautiful red eyes—so beautiful that even the dark circles beneath them couldn't hide their brilliance. His skin was white with a slight rosy tint, perhaps from being pressed against something while he slept. But what caught my attention the most was the tattoo stretching from his neck down to his chest, shaped like a demon. I could only utter one word at this sight...

**"Disgustingly filthy."**

Filth covered his body in horrifying amounts, and even his hair was long and wildly unkempt. I couldn't ignore the dark circles under his eyes.

No matter how much I stared at this reflection, I couldn't recognize who this person was. Even when I tried recalling the novels I'd read, this character didn't ring any bells...

**"Grrr..."**

When the sound from my stomach echoed, I could only sigh.

I grabbed the phone beside the bed and prepared to head out.

But just as I was about to leave, I faced an even bigger problem than my growling stomach...

**I didn't have any money.**

I didn't even need to search for cash—the crumbling apartment and moldy furniture made it clear that there was none to be found.

**"Damn it."**

All I could do was curse my rotten luck. But despite the mounting problems, the biggest one came right after...

I felt an urgent need to use the bathroom, but no matter where I looked, there wasn't one in this apartment.

I stepped out of the dilapidated place, determined to find a bathroom—or at least somewhere to relieve myself.

But when I opened the door, the sight before me left me stunned.

Piles of garbage were stacked everywhere, but what caught my eye the most was a massive heap of trash shaped like a **√** symbol.

Seeing that shape, I finally realized where I was...

**"Heh... hehe..."**

An empty laugh escaped my lips.

I was inside the city's largest garbage dump...

At least I wasn't outside the city, and the academy wasn't too far from this massive landfill.

Lost in thought, I suddenly felt something about to come out.

I hurried toward a small pile of trash and answered nature's call.

After relieving myself, I felt a refreshing sensation wash over me.

I shook my head to clear my mind and finally arrived at an answer to my question.

**Maybe the original owner of this body died before the academy even started.**

But as a seasoned player of the game, I knew there was a river near this place.

I grabbed a few tools I might need...

**"Farewell, trash mountain."**

I turned on my phone and opened the map app, but since the phone was ancient, it barely functioned.

Gritting my teeth, I activated the compass and headed north.

At least this phone had a compass—otherwise, I'd have been in serious trouble.

This dump spanned **80,000 square meters**—getting lost here would be a nightmare.

**Walk...**

As I walked, sharp stones dug into my bare feet, sending waves of unbearable pain through me.

But despite the agony, I pushed forward with terrifying determination.

Clenching my jaw, I pressed on until I finally reached the river.

The moment I saw it, an indescribable joy surged through me.

I quickly stripped off my tattered clothes and jumped into the fresh water.

As I scrubbed my body, endless streams of filth washed away—so much that I wondered if the river would turn black by the time I was done.

But those thoughts vanished as soon as I finished bathing.

I stepped out of the river and searched for suitable trees to build a tent.

Some might wonder why I'd build a tent when I had a house.

But let me tell you—**I'm never going back to that disgusting place.**

I didn't even have food there. But here, by the river, I could fish and hunt animals that came to drink.

At the very least, I could secure food and water while I restored my body to a healthy state.

I could see my ribs sticking out from malnutrition, so I planned to build a decent physique in the two months before the academy started.

Honestly, I didn't want a bulky or overly muscular body—just a lean, moderately fit one.

I prepared a fishing line I'd scavenged from the dump, tied it to a wooden stick, and used insects from the forest as bait. Then, I waited patiently...

**I waited patiently...**

**I waited patiently...**

**I waited patiently...**

**"Damn it, why aren't the fish biting?!"**

I never knew fishing could be this boring.

I set up multiple fish traps and spread them across the river.

I couldn't just sit around waiting for a fish to take the bait, so I made traps instead.

And since I was setting traps in the water, I figured I might as well make some for rabbits too.

**"Aaaah..."**

I yawned from exhaustion and headed to the tent to rest while waiting for the traps.

Lying on my back, I began organizing the information I had about the game.

**Do I have a system?**

Why was I even asking? **Of course there's a system—I'm sure of it.**

**"Kekekekeke..."**

A wide grin spread across my face.

**What kind of system will it be? I can't wait!**

I called out loudly:

**"System..."**

**(To be continued...)**
