Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Waking in a New World

Some people don't completely vanish after they die…

After an unknown amount of time spent unconscious, Kael Ardyn suddenly sat up in bed.

He took in a deep breath of fresh air, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

A rush of emotions—confusion, dizziness, and more—flooded his brain.

Where… was he?

Looking around without thinking, Kael Ardyn's confusion only deepened.

Was this a single-person dorm room?

Even if he'd been rescued, he should be in a hospital right now.

And his body… why weren't there any injuries at all?

Baffled, Kael Ardyn's eyes scanned the room until they landed on a mirror near the bed.

In the reflection, he saw himself. He looked about 17 or 18 years old—young and good-looking.

But this wasn't him!

Before this, he'd been a handsome man in his twenties with a steady job.

But now… he definitely looked like a high school student.

Kael Ardyn sat there in shock for a while, unable to make sense of it.

Please don't tell me some super-plastic surgery worked too well…

Because this clearly wasn't just surgery. This was something straight out of fantasy—his entire face and body had changed!

He had completely turned into someone else!

Could it be that… he had crossed over into another world?

Aside from the mirror at the head of the bed—which had terrible feng shui, by the way—Kael Ardyn also spotted three books placed next to it.

He picked them up and read the titles, which instantly left him speechless.

[Novice's Tome of Creature Craft]

[Caretaker's Guide to Newborn Beasts]

[Assessment Manual for Beast-Ear Girls of Various Races]

Kael Ardyn: ".. ?"

The first two sounded somewhat normal, but the last one—what the heck was that?

Cough.

Kael Ardyn's expression turned serious as he reached for the third book. But as he did, his arm froze midair.

Right then, a stabbing pain shot through his head, and a wave of memories came crashing in.

Frostveil Haven.

A pet-breeding facility.

An intern working with pets.

Beast Tamer?

What in the world was all this?

It took over ten minutes for Kael Ardyn to process this unexpected burst of memories.

Eventually, he looked up with a complicated expression on his face.

Yup. He'd really transmigrated into a different world.

He knew it wasn't just a dream—those memories were too real. And besides… he was far too good-looking now.

Everyone knew ugly people don't get chosen to transmigrate. That had to be some sort of universal law.

Since he had been so attractive, obviously he qualified to be chosen!

After dying unexpectedly, it seemed he had arrived in a different world—a world where beasts were everything.

Although this dorm room looked modern and Earth-like, this definitely wasn't Earth anymore. He was now in a world known as Beastia Terra.

This world was very different, with a completely new culture.

Since ancient times, extraordinary powers had existed here—but they weren't like the magic or martial arts from movies.

Here, all living things had the chance to evolve into something more.

Through evolution, most animals and even plants could gain intelligence and special powers.

And it wasn't just living things—mountains, lakes, even blizzards could evolve and become creatures with consciousness.

These beings could wield powerful forces—lightning, fire, hurricanes—and were like mythical beasts from Earth legends.

Because of this, in the old days, weak humans could only rely on these powerful creatures to survive.

But over time, humans developed their own power—the ability to tame and control these beasts.

Some humans learned to open up a special space in their minds through meditation, a place where they could trap and keep these creatures.

At first, they just forced weaker beasts into submission and used them as tools or guards. But against stronger ones, humans were still helpless.

That changed when people realized something important—beasts raised inside the Beast Taming Space grew faster and could evolve more easily.

This changed everything.

Humanity saw the potential and began studying how to use this Beast Space. They improved the way they captured, trained, raised, and worked with beasts.

This gave rise to a new profession—Beast Tamers, who trained powerful battle pets and began taking center stage in society.

Eventually, even wild and powerful creatures started making pacts with humans, hoping to grow stronger and break through their natural limits.

Now, after thousands of years, humans had built an advanced civilization based on beast taming, and they controlled the most resource-rich areas of the planet.

In this age of beasts, being a Beast Tamer meant status and power.

Every career was connected to Beast Tamers in some way. Only Beast Tamers were considered the best of the best.

For example, famous Beast Tamers earned massive appearance fees for competitions.

Just having one top Beast Tamer in a city could boost its entire economy.

They held top spots in every industry. Beast Tamers ruled the upper levels of society.

However, even with humanity on top, untamed beasts still roamed freely and often attacked cities.

That's why cities often recruited powerful Beast Tamers to defend them.

And according to the memories in his head… the previous version of Kael Ardyn had lost his family in one of those beast attacks.

"So this is the Beast Taming World… I think I get the gist of it."

"But seriously… did I really have to land in such a rough situation?"

Kael Ardyn sighed. In a dangerous world like this, it would've been nice to be born as a rich kid.

A dragon-girl bodyguard, a childhood sprite companion—that would've been the dream.

But no. Soulshift Passage, like being born, was all about luck.

He was still called Kael Ardyn, but now, he wasn't a scholar from Earth. He was just a regular intern pet breeder working in Frostveil Haven.

Not even a real Beast Tamer—just someone assisting them. A basic helper.

He worked at a breeding base that raised baby pets. His job? Feed cubs, clean poop, scrub cages.

He was as low-ranking as it got.

Still, Kael Ardyn figured he could start learning from those books. So, he began studying…

His predecessor had worked hard because he dreamed of becoming a Beast Tamer one day. But the truth was harsh—he was an orphan who could barely afford food, let alone train pets.

Given that kind of background, becoming a Beast Tamer was nearly impossible.

But the old Kael Ardyn had some talent. With hard work and a little luck, he'd managed to land a job connected to Beast Tamers. That at least gave him hope for the future.

He'd even planned to take out a loan to buy a high-quality pet cub to start his journey.

Yeah… a loan. For a pet.

Kael Ardyn felt like collapsing. That was just sad.

In his past life, he'd had enough of mortgages and car loans. He didn't think he'd be in debt again after transmigrating!

But that was probably a problem for the future. Right now, he was just a low-tier worker.

And speaking of work, his shift was about to start. His schedule was tight.

To be honest, Kael Ardyn hadn't woken up at 6 a.m. like this since high school…

Rubbing his head in frustration, he walked over and stuck a schedule to the wall.

It was the task sheet for the week, handed out just yesterday. Intern duties were listed for every day.

For Monday, it said:

Morning: Feed the Frost Wolves (Solo Task)… Move the feed (Group Task)…

Afternoon: Record the green worm's growth data (Team Task)…

Hmm…

If he remembered right, Frost Wolves were fierce pack animals and seriously aggressive carnivores.

Wait, this was a solo job?

Kael Ardyn stared at the sheet, deep in thought.

He'd been bitten by a dog once as a kid, so he was naturally wary around anything canine. This was going to be tough.

"But maybe… it'll be okay."

Kael Ardyn suddenly remembered that he had a special talent—Telepathy. He could talk to creatures without needing words. That might help him handle this.

He'd gotten the internship not only because of his good grades in theory, but also because of his rare beast-taming gift: Mindlink.

When a person successfully opens their Beast Space through meditation, they also awaken a talent.

Kael Ardyn hadn't signed a contract with any pet yet, but he had opened his Beast Space and unlocked his ability.

Luckily, the country had added beast-taming training to school education. That's how Kael Ardyn's talent had been discovered early on.

Beast Taming Talents fell into two types: strengthening and special. Nine out of ten were the strengthening kind.

Those with fire-boosting talents, for example, did best with fire-type pets, making their flames stronger in battle.

The special talents, on the other hand, were much more unique and varied in how they worked.

Some talents, like "Soul Echo," let Beast Tamers use one of their pet's powers themselves—basically giving them superpowers.

Those kinds of Tamers were way better at defending themselves and fighting.

There was also "Beastmerge," which let a Tamer merge with their pet temporarily into a new hybrid form. Maybe that's where beast-ear girls really came from?

Kael Ardyn's Mindlink talent was a special type, though pretty common. It let him speak directly to any intelligent being—no language barrier.

Normally, Beast Tamers could only understand their own pets. But those with Telepathy could talk to others' pets and even wild beasts.

This talent didn't make you stronger in battle, but it was super important in other fields.

Thanks to it, jobs like researchers, medics, teachers, and breeders were mostly filled by Beast Tamers with Telepathy. It was an all-around useful skill.

Since he had this talent, Kael Ardyn figured he could manage working with wild animals…

He let out a sigh of relief.

He wasn't that great at using his ability yet, but it should be enough.

Just to be safe, he decided to test it out and try sensing the creatures nearby.

But right at that moment… something unexpected happened.

As the Beast Space in his mind shook slightly, his vision went blurry.

Then, a black stone-covered handbook appeared in his mind like a vision.

Kael Ardyn realized… he had just awakened a second Beast Taming Talent!
