Chapter 1 - prologue: an introduction

I suppose I should introduce myself my name is Michael and this is my story. I am a US citizen that's United States of America and the year is 2095. I'm 5'11 and 67 years old with dark brown and gray hair and brown eyes I keep my hair short because long hair is a pain in the ass and I keep an athletic and shapely body which I'm damn proud of oh I guess I should mention my gender is female.

I know what you're all thinking and you're absolutely right my parents are weirdos naming their first born daughter Michael with the excuse that all Angel names are adrogynous.

I have a little sister named Azazel which I think sounds better for a girl personally.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love my parents I just took a long time to like my name, they work hard to ensure that our family lives comfortably and has everything we could possibly want and aside from their naming preference I consider them very responsible individuals.

Maybe it's because of my name but I've always been a bit of a tomboy I've preferred pants and t-shirts to dresses and skirts and always have been more attracted to the fairer sex.

Not that I don't find guys attractive as long as they don't have a beard that's a big turn off for me but the thought of a smooth and shapely body does things to me that no guy has ever done.

And hands down the most terrifying things I've ever done was confessed to my childhood friend the rejection of which nearly sent me right back into the closet.

And while we're still friends that awkward air never left.

Which resulted in me taking relationships very casually, but also let me reaffirm my sexual identity through a lot of experimenting that maybe one day I'll explain suffice to say I know who I am.

I'm polyamorous with a preference for women suffice to say my dating options are slim.

Due to my athletic abilities and my ROTC training I got scouted for a PMC institution with exclusive and lucrative contracts from the US government right out of high school. Force of arms paramilitary and armed security services, or affectionately known as the FARM.

Stateside we provide protection to VIPs ranging from politicians to corporate CEOs and their families overseas we perform territorial security and reinforcement to secure territories secure through combat from the US armed forces and provide extra security for US embassies abroad.

I usually work here stateside so I could stay with my family which unfortunately has led me to play security guard for more than one bachelor party.

And let me tell you watching everybody else have fun and drink while I have to stand still like a statue watching out for spoiled brats is such a buzz kill.

But the pay is excellent with opportunities for education and training go well beyond my security role.

In my spare time which is less than you would think, I've fallen in love with full dive games.

Full drive games are virtual reality simulations poured straight into your head through a headset or if you're much more wealthy and implant which allows you to play games and other content through your sleep cycles for whatever reason they don't work while you're actively awake probably to reduce addiction I guess I never really paid attention.

Most dives only last two or three hours through a full sleep cycle but there are exceptions full dive MMOs for example. Most full dive games alter one's perception to make 8 hours of sleep feel like 24 hours in game.

With one outrageous exemption Milky Way online.

Milky Way online is by far the most popular and controversial game in the history of mankind.

And there are a few reasons for that first of all you have to be 18 years of age or older to play, the game will not initialize if you're younger.

Second there are no restrictions in the game anything you can do in real life and more you can do in this game which includes some of the most heinous things you can imagine with full sensory input.

You can only have one character active at a time and the only way to create a new one is to die and permanently lose said character in game which most people weren't happy about but played the game anyways.

And to make it more outrageous 8 hours of sleep translates to 360 days in game you can log out at any time in game but you will always without fail wake up in 360 days of continual gameplay.

This is obviously led to problems with ones perception of reality, the governments of the world have tried to restrict this game but it's attached to every peace of full dive equipment the moment it's been manufactured from military tech to civilian industries it's everywhere.

Which is a problem because full dive gear has become a prerequisite for almost all industries that involved computer learning it's simply impossible to confiscate or even stop manufacturing full dive equipment I mean even schools use learning through full dive gear for homework assignments, made even worse because the cheapest headsets is only 50 USD so pretty much everybody has one.

Which of course means I'm addicted been playing the game for more than 40 years being one of the first players to ever play I've spent nearly 2,000 years in game and yes spending that much time in game has changed me in ways I couldn't explain you simply just have to live through it.

But I wouldn't say it's impacted my real life in a negative way if anything I'm way better at my job than I should be otherwise let me explain.

Milky Way online is sci-fi fantasy RPG when I first played there was only one race humanity.

Humans in Milky Way online are vastly different from the ones you see walking down the street to put into context the game started in the year 1063. I.A. or interstellar age.

The economics of humanity in the game are closer to that of Star Trek with the concept of money being considered obsolete except for trade through other interstellar civilizations which is held at a governmental level.

In addition humans are born with two significant advantages first and inborn AI that serves as both guide and conscious throughout their lives, second a nano machine core which is essential for one's future prospects. At the age of 18 which is the age that everybody regardless of there actual age starts the game chooses a career path via agricultural, construction or even military, receiving a unique modification to their nano machine core help in their future career.

In addition developing one's nano core can extend one's life and abilities in other words the better you are at your chosen path the longer you live and the more powerful you become.

An example of this is an architect being able to assemble structures through the nano machines in their core along with the requisite materials or Mass which is the only resource which is necessary for the nano core to perform its primary tasks.

Nano machines convert energy from raw materials such as soil or organic components into new and different materials on a molecular level based on matter to energy to matter exchange which means consume more mass to create something new as the process isn't perfect and some energy is lost in the conversion.

However that means humanity has no trash pollution as waste products are converted into new and usable materials for various purposes.

From the military path which I obviously chose for myself it allows us to construct weapons and vehicles and so much more for combat roles.

Now in the year 3011 I.A. people have explored 1/8 of the Galaxy through various means and discovered,a plethora of races including two additional playable races.

The mystic eldar a race of Fay like beings that have a affinity for biotechnology that is unparalleled in the known Galaxy.

And the mysterious nomads or affectionately called the grays whose entire civilization travels the starways in massive starships forged from their homeworld.

And in all this you have me a veteran of nearly 2,000 years of combat one of only three out of 10 billion people to have never died once in game.

From the guts and the blood in trenches to the command of my mighty starship I've hardened my mind and abilities in ways most people can't understand.

Ordained as the goddess of war by the very fabric of the game itself I have become humanity sword in the thousand Year on off conflict with the Eldar.

And the most outrageous thing of all I found myself becoming a permanent residence of Milky Way online
