Prologue: Bones in the Dark

The air hung heavy with an oppressive stillness, a silence so profound it felt as though time itself had stopped. The cold, damp stone walls of the cavern absorbed any hint of sound, leaving only the faint hum of something ancient and powerful stirring deep beneath the earth.

Ashen's eyes were hollow sockets now, yet within that emptiness, awareness flickered like a fragile flame in a storm. His body was nothing but bones — dry, cracked, and lifeless by all natural measure. Yet, somehow, he was awake. Something bound him here, something old and unforgiving.

Fragments of his past life drifted through his mind like distant echoes. The blaze that consumed his village, the hopeless fight, the betrayal that left him for dead. And finally, the searing pain as the world went black, replaced by cold, unyielding darkness.

But death had not claimed him.

A pulse resonated from beneath, deep within the dungeon core — a heartbeat not of flesh, but of ancient magic. It throbbed with primordial power, a slow but relentless rhythm that seemed to call to him.

"Rise."

The voice was not spoken aloud, but it echoed in his very bones, a command from the depths of the earth itself. Ashen forced himself upright, bone scraping against stone. His limbs ached as if they remembered flesh long lost. Every movement was awkward, unnatural — but filled with purpose.

"Grow."

His vision was a void, but within it, shapes began to form: flickers of movement in the shadows, the faint shimmer of mana weaving through the dungeon's veins. The place was alive — more alive than he had ever imagined. This dark fortress was not merely a prison for monsters, but a realm teeming with raw potential.

"Rule."

Ashen's mind grasped the command, an impossible truth settling in his hollow chest. He was no longer a mere man. He was bound to the dungeon core, tethered to its fate as surely as it was bound to his.

The dungeon breathed around him — deep caverns where strange creatures slithered and prowled, ancient traps lying in wait, and untold power buried in its uncharted depths. This was not a curse, nor a punishment. It was a challenge. A kingdom waiting to be claimed.

But the path ahead would be perilous. The dungeon itself was unstable, a volatile heart that could shatter and consume everything. Outside, human lives carried on, unaware of the skeletal sovereign rising beneath their feet. And deeper still, something dark and hungry watched.

Ashen clenched his jaw. No flesh, no heart, no past to cling to. Only the relentless drive to survive and to conquer.

The bones beneath the earth would stir. The shadows would bend to his will.

And from the darkness, a new lord would rise.

This was not the end.

This was only the beginning.
