The room dimmed. The shadows began to twist again.
And I realized—we were only just beginning.
"Special evolutions can happen when Vampire Spawn evolve under certain conditions. For example, if there is a massive fight involving large numbers of Vampire Spawn fighting under the watch of a Vampire Progenitor or a Blood Consort, and many vampire spawn are on that reach the ability to evolve, will instead evolve into Vampire Legionnaires."
"Vampire Legionnaires have increased combat capabilities that scale when in formation. When a Vampire Legionnaire evolves, they become a Vampire Centurion, capable of leading a Century of Vampire legionnaires. Vampire spawn fighting alongside a Vampire Century have a chance of mutating into Vampire Milities, which then join to fill the ranks of the Century. Vampire Milities evolve into Vampire Legionnaires. If another legionnaire within century evolves into a centurion, the original Centurion semi–evolves into a Centurion Major,while the new one becomes a Centurion Minor."
"These Vampires continue to evolve into higher ranks, which leads them to command larger formations. However, those who evolve through this route–though they are significantly stronger overall–can never truly gain free will. Even at this evolution tree's equivalent to a True Vampire, which is a Praetorian Praefectus–a being equal in strength to a Blood Champion–they remain incapable of independent thought. They are eternally bound to protect the Progenitor and his progeny."
"So they are puppets, then?" Jenny—who had made a similar comment about the Vampire Kindred—asked cautiously.
"Yes and no. They don't have that same hive-minded loyalty as the kindred, but rather a hive-mind of servitude and duty. It's somewhat similar to a puppet, but at the same time they arn't slaves of the Progenitors will like Thralls to a Vampire. If they are ordered to completely conquer a settlement, they will make their own plans on how to do it most efficiently Thralls which are considered puppets have to be given specific orders through the entire process of conquering the same settlement. This is why I say yes and no."
After her explanation, she paused to see if there were any other questions. When none came, she continued.
"I will explain the full Vampire Legion evolution tree some other time, but now I will brief you about another evolution tree, the Peerage tree.
This evolution tree is not to be mistaken for the Vampire Noble's Peerage, the Peerage Evolution occurs when, similar to the Legion tree, a large number of Vampire Spawn fight a battle, which leads to a large number of Vampire Spawn becoming ready to evolve. The difference is that instead of fighting under the watch of a Vampire Progenitor or Blood Consort, they fight under the command of a Blood Champion. The first rank of this evolution tree is the Vampire Footman, which is the lesser vampire equivalent. They have slightly increased combat capabilities, but they need the command of either a Blood Champion or a higher-ranking vampire of the Peerage Tree. Once they reach a higher they reach the True Vampire equivalent, which is a Vampire Knight, they can start creating Vampire Knight Orders, which allow them to turn Vampire Spawn into Vampire Militia, as long as they receive permission from the progenitor. As with the Legion tree, I will expand on the Peerage Tree another time."
When Leora finished saying that, she seemed as though she was done with explanations for the moment, and seemed as if she had a sudden thought.
"You haven't eaten yet, would you like me to get you something to eat?"
Leora's question was received with a bunch of affirmations from us, which she then stated she would return shortly, and then left the room.
After Leora left, we began talking among ourselves, mostly discussing the information Leora provided us.
Before long, Leora returned and left the food at the table, and left again, leaving us to eat and relax among ourselves.
Leora returned multiple times throughout the rest of the day, either to give us more information about Vampire Society or to bring us food. And before we knew it, it was time to sleep. As I was laying in bed I thought to myself that maybe our new life will be more exciting than I originally thought but before I could expand on that thought I drifted off to sleep.
