Perfect Cell. He was one of the greatest creations of the Red Ribbon Army's scientist Doctor Gero. After all, Cell nearly wiped-out humanity but was stopped by Son Gohan, the offspring of the person Gero had a grudge against. Son Goku. This grudge carried on for years as he tried to kill the Saiyan for destroying the Red Ribbon Army. This plan of his would ultimately fail as he is killed by his own creations who go against their programing and eventually end up joining Son Goku and his friends. Well, besides Perfect Cell. Cell was one of the only ones who continued his mission but was still independent.
He wanted perfection and would go to great lengths to achieve it. But he too in the end was terminated by the ones he went to kill. But Gero knew—or well had an idea—that Cell would either fail or go rogue, so he created a backup plan. A version of Cell that is focused on the opposite attributes. Gero made this cell naïve, kind and easy to control. At least he hoped so. By making this New Cell pure of heart and naïve, he inadvertently created a second Son Goku. But he would never know as this new Cell would never awaken.
Until now. Deep within Gero's Ultra Hyper Super-Secret lab, many machines are running off of backup power during this intermission without Gero. But it's been years since Gero's death, and the supercomputer has never received the order to release the New Cell. But it has been documenting the recent events and storing them into the specimen. A large green tube sat in the center of the main room with a figure floating within. This figure shares the exact same body features as Perfect Cell but instead of green, he's red.
As a pair of bubbles pass by their face, the eyes open followed by a cracking sound. The pod cracks before it explodes, and liquid goes everywhere. As the glass clammers onto the ground, breaking into pieces, the figure stands in the broken pod. He then steps out and drops down to the floor, landing on his feet. He closes his eyes and inhales for the first time before exhaling with satisfaction. He opens his eyes again, this time with a smile on his face.
He had been waiting inside his pod for so many years and now he's out and awake. He had absorbed all the information given to him by the supercomputer. He knows about Perfect Cell and the events following his demise. He was disappointed in his predecessor, not because he failed his mission but because of what he did. Terrorizing the world isn't a good legacy to leave behind. He was also defeated by a child.
A CHILD!! Granted that child was the son of Son Goku, the very person he and Perfect Cell were created to destroy. But now that he thinks about it, why should he? Why should he follow the orders of a dead man? He has no grudge against Goku, and his friends so why should he be worried about them? If anything, he should just leave them alone. But something within him is eager for a fight, especially after knowing about Majin Buu. When he learned this from the supercomputer, he was now more eager to fight Son Goku.
But he had to control himself. He doesn't want to be like his 'brother' Perfect Cell. He wants to be different from him. He won't go after Son Goku to kill him, he won't even look for him. Well, maybe he will. After all he's eager for a good fight right now. Especially with the information he has. Super Saiyan 3. It sounds like a very powerful form and from what information that was gathered, it gave this Majin Buu a run for his money. Though, it sucks that he doesn't have Majin Buu's cells. He would've been much more powerful. But oh well, he's fine with what he has. He also just discovered he can sense energy as he feels a strong set of powers coming towards his location. Maybe he doesn't need to seek Goku out after all. A smile comes to his face.
Far outside of the lab, a pair of people were flying towards the lab's location after having sensed an immense power suddenly appear. This pair was Gohan and Piccolo. Gohan had a stern look on his face as he recognized this energy. He remembers it anywhere. It's Cells. But it didn't make sense. He's sure he killed Cell all those years ago. Piccolo looked over to Gohan and saw the look on the hybrid's face. He knew Gohan was angry so he wouldn't comment on the matter. However, both of their thoughts are interrupted by a new voice.
"Hey guys, wait up!" a cheery voice calls out.
Gohan and Piccolo look to their right and see Goku joining them alongside Vegeta.
"Dad!" Gohan greets happily.
"I take you sensed that energy to huh?" Goku asks.
"of course we did, how could we not?" Piccolo retorts calmly.
"Whoever that power belongs to must be strong. It even felt like Cell's!" Goku exclaims, happily.
"That's what I'm worried about." Gohan said, looking forward as they flew towards the power's location.
As they get closer and closer, they all suddenly stop as someone teleports in front of them. This figure looks a lot like Cell. They are all startled after the sudden appearance of this Cell look alike. Gohan looks horrified as he sees Cell before him. He thought he killed Cell. But the more he looks, something looks... off. He's Red. Cell wasn't Red, He was green. So, who is this Cell look-alike?
"Who are you?" Gohan asks, an angered look on his face showing his deep-seated anger with Cell.
"Funny you should ask that question. As far as I'm concerned, I'm supposed to be Cell's replacement." the New Cell informs.
"Replacement?" Piccolo asked.
"Dr Gero created me as a counter measure should Cell go rogue. But as I awoke, I began to think." The Bio Android said. "Why should I follow the orders of a dead man? I mean, what good will it do?" he asks, rhetorically.
"So what, are you going to try to destroy the Earth? Or something like that?" Goku asks, preparing himself for confrontation.
"hm.... no." The New Cell said, plainly. "Why should I?"
Goku and the others looked confused. This was new.
"Aren't you programed to kill Goku?" Piccolo asks.
"Yes, but I don't have to follow them. If anything, blame Gero for making me more rebellious than Cell." New Cell said.
"Okay, if you won't try to kill me. What's your name?" Goku asks.
"I haven't thought too heavily on the matter, but I don't want to be called, Cell. That idiot already coined the name." The New Cell said. "How about.... Mito? Yes, I like that."
The group looks at each other in total confusion. Even Vegeta is confused. Here in front of them is basically Cell, but he's acting incredibly different. While everyone else is concerned and cautious, Goku sees this as an opportunity. What kind of opportunity? Well, a training partner of course. This is Goku we're talking about.
"Sooo... if you're not going to destroy the Earth or try to kill me. What are you going to do?" Goku asks.
Mito shrugs his shoulders.
"I don't know."
"Could you perhaps be my training partner?" Goku asks, enthusiastically.
Mito's eyes widen as well as everyone else's. The group was shocked at the request. Vegeta got in Goku's face.
"What is wrong with you Kakarot!?" he asks.
"Easy Vegeta, chill!" Goku orders. "Mito isn't a threat!"
"How can you possibly know that? Let me remind you the amount of times you've been fooled into thinking one of our enemies just suddenly switched sides!" Vegeta said.
"Raditz is a prime example of your idiocy." Piccolo stated
"okay, I get it. I may have been foolish in the past, but I don't sense any malicious Ki in him, so I trust him!" Goku said, defending himself. "Besides, think about it. Someone as strong as Cell on our side, not only could we get some major gains, but we'd also have a powerful ally." he continues, adding more details into why he wants Mito as a training partner.
Gohan and Piccolo actually consider this. But Vegeta is reluctant. He can tell by the look in their eyes. Goku sighs at them but then turns to Mito who is just floating there in silence.
"Well?"
Mito thinks about it. He did want a good fight. Maybe this is the safest way to achieve that without being like Cell or doing what Gero wanted him to do. After all he's his own being. After the many years of waiting to be released, he was able to gain sentience long before his awakening, so he'd been just taking in the information the Supercomputer was feeding him. All this time waiting and now he's awoken. He isn't going to ruin it by being a villain like Cell.
"Sure. I don't mind, sounds like fun too." Mito said, agreeing to Goku's offer.
Goku smiles brightly and is all giddy. Gohan and Piccolo looked uncertain while Vegeta looked shocked but then gets rid of his surprise as this is Goku for petes sake. He does all kinds of stupid things. So, this wasn't even close in comparison. Gohan wasn't trusting of Mito, after all he looked like Cell and is supposedly his replacement. That alone lowers the trust Gohan has for this guy. Piccolo is no different. They're both unsure but are willing to give him a chance. After all, he may be Cell's replacement and one of Gero's creations, but Android 17 and 18 managed to turn around and they were evil. Hell, Vegeta even turned around and became a valuable ally. So maybe Mito can become a valuable ally too.
"This is great! Now I have a training partner!!" Goku shouts all happy.
"Your way to enthusiastic about this." Vegeta mumbles with annoyance.
"Why wouldn't I? I now have a guy as strong as Cell to train with!" Goku defended.
"Kakarot, you defeated Majin Buu!! Cell doesn't even compare to Majin Buu's power, remember that!" Vegeta scolds aggressively.
"You may be right Vegeta, but this guy is like Cell." Goku said. "Tell me, do you have data on Majin Buu?"
"Not really. I mean I know of him. But the drones were destroyed before any data or cells could be gathered. At least, I think so because I don't have Majin Buu's cells." Mito informs casually.
"Aww." Goku says disappointedly. "Well, that's okay, I guess. If your anything like Cell, you have crazy potential, and I want to see that up close and personal. If that's okay with you, Mito."
"I'm cool with it. Truth be told I'm itching for a fight right now." Mito said, punching his fist into his hand.
This gave Goku an idea and the others saw.
"Please don't tell me your gonna-."
"Can we have a quick sparring match then? To test your power?" Goku asked.
"Damn it Goku!!" Piccolo cursed.
"I wouldn't be against it." Mito said, getting a grin on his face as he crossed his arms.
"Yes!"
The other three sigh at this. Only Gohan smiles as he knows his father would do anything for a sparring match. After all, Saiyan's are just prone to fighting. He's surprised Vegeta doesn't want in on this fight.
