Chapter 8 - What Happened, Happened

"This is nothing but a threat! How could they possibly put Le An into such danger?" Sora was going back and forth. "He's far from being okay, especially after everything they put him through with the guiding regulations. I can't believe it. I cannot believe there was worse coming."

In his house, all his team were furious right now. After they listened to Le An on the way home, the expected files arrived shortly after. And the lawyers had been brought in. They were flipping pages and arguing between themselves. One of them raised his head, looking upstairs absentmindedly, where Le An was. "There's not even a clue about how humanistic this experiment will be held. And they didn't even put a strict deadline date, this is a crucial point we will not accept. Without termination rights, possible harm explanations, and an estimated end date, they might not stop till they push him to near death."

"As if that wasn't already enough, they expect him to continue his guiding sessions at the same time."

"What the hell..." Emerald said. "Isn't this illegal? Aren't there any possible objections we could make, like, isn't it against guiding laws?"

"That's outright exploitation of a guide, but they sent the law regulation that is solely brought into force for Le An and without any delay or suspension, the Ministry of Health used their privilege to put it into effect with consensus."

"Demons." Le An heard the word at the stairs, going down. They all looked at him at once. Theo leaned on the window ledge and had not uttered a word since they arrived, pulled himself together, and strode over to him immediately. "Anything you need?"

Le An gently raised a hand to stop him, he was changed into a t-shirt and shorts, his hair was disheveled. "I'm okay, I'll just go get some air in the garden."

"Your clothes are a bit thin."

"I won't be out for too long. Besides, I want to feel a bit cold."

They all watched him, wanted to say something, yet abstained, not to bother him. Theo's eyes were glued to his back. Le An held the door handle and turned back to look at them. "What happened, happened. I need the best scenario we can make from this. So, thank you already, for all your sincere care and efforts for me."

He got out. Several guards stepped in to accompany him, but he declined. And even sighed at the last guard, giving a faint smile. "Please." Would he ever get a moment of fresh air and solitude in peace?

His team was watching him as he took his tired steps to the lakeside. Theo seethed quietly, feeling helpless as he watched Le An's exhausted figure fade into the distance. They now knew he was an omega, and once people like that learns something like this, Theo knew that they wouldn't remain still. In that room, many more things had probably happened, but Le An just kept it inside.

As he always does.

But his body had faint alpha pheromones at that time; several, even, could smell it inside the car. He must have been resisting them for a long time, and even resisting to keep his pheromones in check, till he is alone. That's why he ran upstairs as soon as they walked in to take a shower. No matter how hard an omega tries to resist, he is still defenseless against an alpha's scent and dominance — it's written in their very biology. Resisting was against his very nature and was painful.

"He doesn't deserve any of this." He murmured to himself. "He doesn't deserve it."

---

With all other troubles pent up, Le An was waiting for him now. There were still two hours, so he was lying on his back to gather some energy. But since the evening, the effect of the injection had worn off already.

This man and the experiment were not related, it seems. Both parties' techniques and goals were different, which means it was double trouble for Le An. The files and papers caught his eye, all scattered on the table. He got up to hide them. Nothing good would happen if that man were to see those. It would only add more to Le An's problems.

Stepping back to his bed, Le An suddenly felt weak, and his legs gave up. He fell on the ground. "Ugh..."

Soon after, two guards knocked on the door. As the door opened, Le An suddenly felt impatient, but the scream just didn't get out of his mouth. He wanted to be alone. The guards rushed over to him and helped him to get up and lie back down. "I want painkillers and some pain-relieving pads, please." He said, struggling to move himself to a more comfortable position to lie.

"Emerald informed us not to take more painkillers for today, Le An. Pain-relieving pads are alright. Would some warm tea help? Anything you crave?"

Le An looked at them, lying on a blanket at his feet. "Pain-relieving pads will be enough."

They gave him six pads and left. He put the pads on his thighs, back, waist, and neck. Soon his body heated, leaving a sense of numbness in his muscles. His eyes gradually closed.

When the man arrived, Le An was sleeping, curled into a ball under the blanket.
