The choice offered by Luna was surprisingly extensive, as the stats were good enough to have access to several good classes.
According to Luna, there are highly sought-after first-tier classes like Archwizard.
For now, I took a look at the ordinary classes.
Adventurer: A general class for those who haven't chosen a specific class.
They can learn any class or species skill, as long as they demonstrate it to the adventurer.
However, due to their low stats and lack of talent, learning skills is more expensive.
The adventurer class isn't as effective as specialized classes, even though adventurers progress easily thanks to faster level gains that lead to easier skill point acquisition.
Warrior: Front-line fighter using heavy weapons like sword, shield, and spear. It's the most common class among adventurers or melee fighters.
Thief: Thief specialized in dungeon exploration and burglary, with good luck but weak attack skills. It's the second most common class among adventurers.
Priest: A cleric who serves a god and uses the power of faith to perform many types of miracles, like healing magic and support buffs.
Wizard: A sorcerer using all types of magic. Often requires higher education. It's a rare class, as many groups don't have a magician.
Honestly, I didn't really get the logic behind the priest class appearing.
Why?
Because I've cursed fate and higher entities too much, who should govern the lives of mortals.
But still, to curse the gods you have to acknowledge their existence in some way.
Does that really count as a form of faith?
"The adventurer class seems incredible," I said honestly sharing my thoughts, looking for Luna's opinion.
The woman grimaced slightly, as if she had remembered something unpleasant for a moment.
But that expression was brief, as she quickly resumed a professional attitude.
She really has a lot of experience in the job, huh...
"Yes, you could learn all the skills from other classes and races, but..."
She paused, as she thought about something important.
"But?" I decided to push a little.
It's really getting late outside and I still haven't found an inn.
I need to find a place to sleep quickly, and sleeping outside would be potentially risky.
Who knows if slavery is still practiced in this kingdom, or worse.
"Skills tend to be more expensive and less effective than the original, you risk becoming a jack-of-all-trades and master of none," she said, in a serious and nervous voice?
Is Luna worried that I'll take the adventurer path?
Hmm... I'll have to think about it, because it won't really be too much of a burden for me.
I have decent strength in this world and I have a very high amount of magical energy according to the norm, according to Luna.
The penalty related to lack of talent seems like it could be compensated with high stats, but who in this universe would choose adventurer with good stats?
They've literally been indoctrinated by their world's common sense about this class, and the fact that it's hard to increase stats doesn't help.
'Can I use the adventurer's ability to learn anything in other dimensions?'
A bold idea, which further fueled my interest in the underestimated class.
Still, I decided to look at the other classes for now.
I could really be surprised.
• Archer: A class specialized in bow and other ranged weapons.
• Knight: A noble class that can strengthen its power through honor and oaths. They work as soldiers and kingdom guards.
• Creator: A mage who uses creation magic through magic circles to create golems and others.
• Swordsman: A fighter skilled in using any bladed weapon, like swords and daggers.
• Elemental Master: A class that summons spirits to enhance their powers and create different phenomena. Elemental Masters who worship spirits are known as Spirit Users.
• Rune Knight: A knight who uses magic runes on their armor and weapons to increase power and draw elemental power from gems.
• Shaman: Healing sorcerer capable of casting curses, using it to fight diseases caused by microbes or to cast specific curses. They also practice surgery alongside priests. Dark shamans usually curse people to extort them.
• Lancer: A fighter specialized in spear handling.
• Monk: A cleric who fights bare-handed.
• Ranger: A soldier specialized in stealth like infiltration and traps.
The list continues, but I didn't keep flipping through the available options.
I'd seen enough.
The classes that caught my attention are Creator, Archwizard, and Adventurer.
Archwizard is undoubtedly the preferred class of my current race, which is a human altered by a Japanese person in the distant past, aka Crimson Demon.
If I take this option, I'll be a pure mage.
An exciting future or prospect, for an individual who recently wished for death.
Creator is really exciting too.
Who wouldn't want their own giant robot... cough, I mean golem.
On the other hand, Adventurer offers me the possibility to use my current abilities properly and more in the future.
I'm a practitioner of Kyokushin karate and kendo, until the end of high school.
I had few real rivals in both disciplines in my club and dojo, because I didn't really have time to devote to my screwed-up social life.
Unlike my easily falsifiable studies, my sports-related grades were hard to modify.
I had considered a purely athletic life because my bully's father's influence was too strong in the administration.
Unfortunately, I was just that... talented.
I had achieved a very good level through hard work, but I wasn't the best in the city and I never won an inter-high school competition.
My best performance?
Among those in the quarter-finals in Kyokushin karate...
So... the word genius and I don't really have a real connection together.
"I'll take the Adventurer class."
Luna tried to reason with me, but I refused any negotiation attempts until...
"Sigh... it's really a waste," she said, making the guild card.
"If you're so sure of your opinion, we can make a bet?"
Her fingers stopped their movement for a short moment, before she raised her head to observe me.
Her eyes conveyed a message like "really?".
"What kind of bet?"
I sketched a confident smile, before exposing my idea.
"I heard the guild is struggling with certain quests, so I'll use the Adventurer class to finish three quests of your choice."
Luna looked at the quest board. Her face seemed worried, before returning her attention to me.
"And if I lose?" She plunged her gaze into mine.
"You'll stop judging classes based on your common sense and give me your time... for a date!"
Yes, I'm hitting on the guild's head receptionist.
Some people would think I'm operating with my lower half here... it's true, but that's not all.
Just a few hours ago, I tasted a pitiful death again, and my second life was worthless, even a nightmare.
I plan to live it up this time, even if Aqua wasn't clear at the beginning.
Honestly, suicide or death is a frightening and scary thing.
I don't want to relive those feelings, and I also want to live my life fully this time.
My life as Carl and the one in Japan are going to be my last failures.
Even if I'd be treated by some as a gigolo or scum, because I played with their sister's or loved one's heart.
"I... I don't know." Luna avoided my gaze, but I didn't back down.
I grabbed her surprisingly soft hand with my hands, and kept eye contact.
"I'm sincere... is that okay?"
After a pause, Luna simply nodded.
Before she could change her mind.
I quickly left the adventurers' guild as if I had accomplished a successful burglary, but it's technically the case from a certain point of view.
