The morning after New Year's was slow and cozy in the Tonks household. The scent of cinnamon toast, scrambled eggs, and freshly steeped tea drifted through the air as the family gathered around the breakfast table, still in pajamas and slippers.
Ted sat at the head of the table, adjusting his reading glasses while flipping open the morning's Daily Prophet. The enchanted ink shimmered softly in the light, headlines dancing slightly before settling into place.
Andromeda poured tea for everyone, while Dora used a casual wandless spell to warm the butter. Iris munched quietly on toast, still waking up, while Hadrian listened with quiet interest as Ted began to read out the news.
"International Conference Reaches Agreement on Digital Containment Measures"
Ted's voice was calm and steady as he read aloud.
"'Magical nations across the globe renewed their commitment to safeguarding wizarding secrecy in the age of the muggle internet. As part of the International Digital Accord, the Department of Digital Obfuscation has rolled out upgraded global wards that distort satellite surveillance and automatically hex leaked magical images online…'"
He looked up with a bemused smile.
"Imagine being the poor muggle who tries to post a photo of a dragon on a forum. Whole post probably vanishes in a puff of smoke."
Dora giggled.
"Serves them right for trying to snitch on dragons."
Hadrian smiled faintly. So the teams are real now… good.
Ted flipped the page.
"Minister Rosaline Vance Announces Magical-Muggle Technology Initiative"
"'In a press conference yesterday, Minister Vance reaffirmed her commitment to responsible magical modernization. A new advisory council has been formed to research the safe integration of select muggle technologies into magical society, such as enchanted computing and floo-synced communication protocols. Minister Vance emphasized the importance of preserving wizarding tradition while adapting to a rapidly changing muggle world…'"
Andromeda gave a contented hum.
"Vance is doing excellent work. Nice to have a Minister with some actual vision."
"Unlike that idiot Fudge," Ted muttered under his breath.
"Who?" Iris blinked.
"No one worth remembering," Hadrian said with a grin. "Sounds like she's a good leader."
Ted nodded. "Best we've had in generations."
And just like that, the world had always been this way.
A third article caught Hadrian's eye as the page turned.
"Mysteries Department Confirms Continued Monitoring of Ancient Containment Realms"
Ted read the headline aloud.
"'The Department of Mysteries released its annual public summary today, confirming that the ancient gateway known as the Veil remains sealed and undisturbed. Officials reaffirmed that the sanctuary beyond—believed to house rare magical species and lost magical knowledge—is protected by eternal enchantments. Though access remains restricted to authorized Unspeakables, scholars agree the realm serves as a priceless magical backup, should the wizarding world face total collapse.'"
Iris looked intrigued.
"Sounds like something out of a fairy tale."
"Or a last resort," Hadrian said, sipping his tea. "Either way… comforting to know it exists."
Andromeda raised an eyebrow. "You're sounding more like a politician every day."
"Just someone who reads the paper," Hadrian replied innocently.
The rest of breakfast passed in warm chatter and occasional snorts of laughter as Dora read the joke column out loud. But through it all, Hadrian sat with a quiet smile, his heart calm.
The world had changed. Not loudly. Not with thunder or war.
But with headlines, ministry policies, and morning tea.
And that — more than anything — was proof of success.
