Zara paced outside the office with her heart hammering in her chest. She'd survived the interview. Somehow. Liam hadn't recognized her or if he had, he was hiding it well.
"Miss Cole?" the assistant said again, this time with a slight smile. "You're hired. Report at 8 a.m. tomorrow. He's… rarely that quick to decide."
Zara nodded, dazed. "Thank you."

The Next Morning
8:00 sharp.
She entered the Knight Enterprises building wearing her cleanest shirt and the calmest face she could fake.
Liam was already at his desk, suit crisp, tie sharp. "You're two minutes early. I like that."
She smiled faintly. "I aim to please."
He gestured to the desk outside his office. "Everything you need is there. Passwords are on the file. Oh and I don't tolerate sloppiness."
"I understand."
He studied her again those grey eyes almost… confused.
"You remind me of someone," he said suddenly.
Zara's breath hitched. "Must be my face. People say that."
He leaned closer. "No. It's not just your face. It's something in your eyes."
Zara's hand trembled slightly as she reached into her bag for a notepad and a photo of Eli slipped out.
Her breath caught.
Liam leaned down and picked it up before she could.
He stared at it.
A boy with grey eyes stared back.
"…Who is this?" Liam asked slowly.
Zara forced a laugh. "My neighbor's son. I babysit sometimes."
Liam looked at the photo again… then at her. His gaze lingered.
"Cute kid," he said finally.
She smiled.
He handed the photo back.
But his eyes said something else entirely.
He didn't believe her.
