Chapter 2 - System and Gift

In a dimly lit bedroom, a young man lay fast asleep in his bed, the cool night breeze stirring the curtains and gently caressing his skin as he lightly snored.

The bedroom itself was unremarkable. A king-sized bed sat beneath an open windowsill, a rich red carpet covering most of the floor. To the right stood a sturdy bookcase, and beside it, a wooden table with a laptop resting on its surface. The room was sparsely decorated with a few pieces of artwork, and a lone flower pot occupied the far corner.

"Ugh, who ran me over?" The young man, Lucas, stirred awake, his eyes fluttering open in the darkness.

Placing a hand on his forehead, Lucas took a deep breath, the rich, earthy scent of his home filling his lungs.

[The Gamer System has been bound! Congratulations on arriving in Twilight. Think or speak 'Status' to see your personal information.]

A blue panel flickered to life in front of Lucas's eyes as he slowly came to.

Oh, it wasn't a dream? His mind snapped to attention, the events of last night crashing back.

Status?

———

[The Gamer System:

Name: Lucas Ambrose

Status: Healthy

Title: (None)

Species: Human

Class: (None)

Items: iPhone, Wallet (Identification, $1,000 cash), House Keys, Beginner Pack

Skills: Gamers Mind, Gamers Body]

———

"Huh, that's neat." Lucas thought, his mind still reeling from the shock of his new reality.

The system itself was quite intuitive. With a simple thought, he could navigate through sub-panels like inventory and the skill panel.

"Shall we have a look at these skills?" He muttered, pulling up the page.

———

[Skills:

Gamers Mind:

Allows peaceful state of mind.

Immunity to mental disorder.

Allows the user to calmly and logically think things through.

Gamers Body:

Grants a body that allows for the user to live the real world like a game. (Receives no physical damage from attacks only pain for a few seconds and a loss of HP).

After sleeping in a bed, it restores HP, MP and cures all status effects.]

———

"So I've essentially become a game character, but in the real world?" Lucas questioned, pushing himself off the bed and walking to the wooden table. Pulling out the seat, he sat down and thrummed his fingers on the tabletop.

"From what the Gamers Mind showed, I should be immune to things such as mind control, illusions, or mental afflictions similar to fear. Would mental fatigue also be something I don't have anymore?"

Turning on the laptop, Lucas opened a blank document and began writing down his speculations and assumptions.

"These should be tested."

"Now, Gamers Body is pretty self-explanatory. Let's say I get shot or stabbed; I wouldn't have the physical injury present, but I would lose 'HP' in accordance with the damage sustained. I wonder if someone attempted to pull my limbs—would it just be impossible, or would it reattach as soon as it happened?"

As Lucas was writing down his notes, a thought suddenly struck him.

Is the Gamers Mind already in effect? I'm way too calm for this kind of scenario. I hope all my emotions aren't nullified. System, can you answer questions pertaining to your functions?

[Gamers Mind will nullify, or dilute your emotions regarding negative status effects. Positive emotions, such as love or happiness will remain unaffected.]

"Phew, that's a relief." Lucas let out the breath he hadn't realized he was holding; he certainly didn't want to become some kind of robot.

After jotting down his findings, Lucas turned to his status panel once more, his eyes drifting to the items section. The phone and wallet were expected, but the unexpected 'Beginner Pack' was truly shocking.

Open the Beginner Pack.

The blue panel shifted from the status screen.

———

[Congratulations! Beginner Pack has been opened.]

[Obtained skills: ID Create/Escape.]

[Obtained species: Wizard (Harry Potter Universe)]

———

"Oh?!" Lucas exclaimed, baffled by the rewards he had received. The system itself was already incredible, but now he was granted the option to wield magic?

"I should have picked the Harry Potter universe; at least then I would have been able to learn magic there."

Pulling up the skills panel once again, Lucas read the information about ID Create / Escape. It sounded like something obscure.

———

[Skills:

ID Create:

Used to create instant dungeons. Stronger instant dungeons may be created according to level.

Dropped items will be dependent on your current world, or species.

Usage of ID create is limited to once a week. Special dungeons will be offered once a month.

ID Escape:

Used to escape instant dungeons at anytime.]

———

Lucas could only grin in happiness at the gift he'd just been given.

The ID skill will allow me to grow in strength, or power. I can see why this System was classed more as potential-based. I wonder what kind of items I would be granted.

Standing up, Lucas observed his 'new' bedroom. It was simple, yet aesthetically pleasing. Exiting the room, he was greeted with a home that seemed more like a cozy cabin. Wooden flooring was adorned with a few large rugs, and a plush couch faced the large window in the living room.

There was no TV, but Lucas didn't seem to care much about it.

I probably wouldn't watch much anyway.

The kitchen was small but clean. Sticking with the cabin theme, the countertops were all wood. A single, slim fridge was stocked with enough food for two weeks. Small plants were dotted throughout the house, completing the rustic aesthetic.

"Not bad!" Lucas cheered, walking towards the kitchen and filling up a glass of water from the tap, quenching his thirst.

(Author Note: Not sure if Gamers Body would negate the need for food or drink. Let me know your thoughts!)

Willing his mobile from the inventory, Lucas sat down on the couch in the living room. Turning it on, he peered at the date and time, trying to figure out his current situation.

January 1st, 2005. It's the new year, and I don't even think Bella has moved here yet, which means that canon hasn't even begun. I wonder if anything is different in this world?

Authors Note: I know, second chapter is more system orientated, but we need to move past this to begin more of the story. Next chapter will focus on ID Create and the Wizard bloodline. But it will be the foundation for further chapters. Much love <3
