Song Lian was a brilliant hacker in the modern world. She lived alone, her parents had died in a car accident when she was young, and she had no siblings. On her 27th birthday, her only friend, who lived in another country, sent her a gift: a bottle of perfume and a book.
Song Lian didn't bother to open the book. First, she wasn't interested in reading. Second, she had a new project to work on, something that demanded all her time and attention. She was well-paid for her work, but never knew what to do with the money. Her life felt empty, and the only person she could call a friend was far away. They met once in a while, but most of the time, Song Lian was on her own.
Sometimes, sadness crept in. She would feel the weight of loneliness, especially when she came home to a silent apartment. But she'd shake it off and dive back into her work, like a machine. Her love life was nonexistent; apart from occasional small talk with colleagues, she had no one. It wasn't that she didn't want connection, she just didn't know how to find it anymore.
One day, after returning home from the office, she stood in her doorway and sighed. There was no one waiting for her. Like a robot, she went through her nightly routine. But then, as if struck by sudden inspiration or maybe just boredom, she reached for the unopened book her friend had sent.
The title: Rebellion.
She scoffed. It didn't seem to match the content at all. The book was a typical melodrama. The female lead, Liu Xinya, was betrothed to the prince. The villainess of all things was named Song Lian. And of course, the prince secretly loved the heroine. The villainess tried to sabotage their relationship, and in true cliché fashion, the hero killed her mercilessly.
Song Lian threw the book across the room.
"What the hell?" she muttered. "The villain has the same name as me? And she's so damn stupid? Seriously? If she was going to commit crimes, she should have at least been smart enough to hide them!"
With a huff, she climbed into bed, still seething.
But when she woke up the next morning, the world had changed.
She wasn't in her apartment anymore.
She was in the body of the villainess Song Lian inside the very book she had tossed aside.
