Chapter 6: The Beginning of a New Journey
"He said we need to reach Alaska," Ethan continued, his tone steady. "That's where SCP-001 fled. It's... building something there. A kingdom, a nest. That's where it plans to expand its reach."
Lira frowned. "That's across the continent. We don't even have a working car."
"I know. But it's not just about getting there," Ethan said. "Astraeus said there's something we need to recover along the way. Clues. Maybe weapons. There are still remnants of Foundation sites. Safe zones. We'll need them."
Nolan finally sat up. "Why did he come to you? Why not someone else?"
"I think... because I was the last to hear his warning and still believe him. Or maybe I'm just all that's left."
The three sat quietly for a moment, the fire burning low. Then, slowly, Lira stood and extended her hand.
"You said we should work together to survive. I think now... it's about more than that."
Ethan took her hand. "Then we start the journey. Together."
They packed what little they had—canned food, salvaged knives, a rusted rifle with five rounds. Ethan carried a small black case marked with the faded SCP insignia—gear he'd stolen from the ruins.
As dawn broke over the devastated skyline, the trio stepped into the street.
The wind blew cold from the north. Toward Alaska.
Toward the unknown.
The journey had begun.
