This story is for you…

Chapter 1

A FRESH SET OF TROUBLES.

A New Year,

STAR'S APARTMENT – MORNING

The sun filters through thin, mismatched curtains, casting a weak glow on Star's tiny studio apartment. The room is cluttered with half-unpacked boxes, empty takeout containers, and a pile of laundry spilling out of a wicker basket. On the small counter doubling as a kitchen table, a dusty bottle of wine and a crumpled receipt from last week's night out mock her from a distance

STAR :

Second year of university. The year everything was supposed to get better. A chance to prove to myself and everyone else that I could do this. But here I am, running on caffeine fumes and regret.

Star, 20, sits cross-legged on her couch a faded hand-me-down that threatens to swallow her whole. She's wrapped in a threadbare blanket, sipping instant coffee from a chipped mug. Her hair is messy, and dark circles haunt her eyes. Despite her tired demeanor, she still looks effortlessly put-together in her signature tomboy-chic style: a cropped bomber jacket over a graphic tee, paired with ripped boyfriend jeans and worn-in sneakers. Her fashion sense a perfect blend of casual and cool has always been her armor, even on her worst days.

STAR :

This independence thing? It's not all it's cracked up to be. I thought moving out of my parents' house would mean freedom. Turns out, freedom comes with a side of cold pizza and a bank account stuck in the negatives.

Her eyes flick to the single shopping bag of groceries on the counter, its contents laughably sparse.

STAR :

I could've stretched my savings another month if I hadn't let Vanessa convince me to hit Crimson Lounge four nights in a row. But no. I just had to keep up with everyone else.

She runs a hand through her hair, frustration bubbling under her skin. No one knows how broke she really is not her friends and not her classmates

CAMPUS COURTYARD – DAY

The scene shifts to Star walking through campus, her sneakers scuffing softly against the pavement. Her outfit a loose plaid shirt layered over a white tank top, paired with black joggers draws subtle glances of admiration. She holds her head high, projecting confidence despite the turmoil brewing beneath the surface.

The courtyard is alive with students rushing to class, lounging on the grass, or scrolling through their phones. Up ahead, a group of students bursts into laughter. Among them is Yura Jackson, 21, one of the most handsome and popular boys. His dark hair catches the sunlight, making him look like he stepped out of a magazine ad.

Star's lip curls as she approaches the group. Yura's laughter fades when he notices her, his expression shifting into something sharper, more calculated.

YURA:

(mockingly) Well, if it isn't Miss Star. Still spending daddy's money to look the part, huh?

The group chuckles. Star stops, glaring at him. Her heart sinks at the jab if only he knew the truth but she doesn't let it show.

STAR :

(flatly) Wow, Yura. You must practice these zingers in the mirror.

YURA :

(grinning) You're not wrong. But hey, they work, don't they?

STAR :

Sure. If by "work," you mean "make everyone cringe."

The tension between them is palpable. For a moment, their mutual distaste hangs in the air like static electricity. Then, VANESSA RODRIGUEZ, Star's best friend, steps forward, placing herself between them.

VANESSA:

Alright, you two. Play nice. We've got class in five.

Yura winks at Star, his grin widening as he walks off with his entourage.

STAR :

(muttering) If arrogance was currency, he'd be funding the entire university.

Vanessa nudges her playfully.

VANESSA:

You two need to stop pretending you hate each other.

STAR:

(rolling her eyes) Oh, trust me. There's no pretending.

INT. STAR'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Star sits at her desk, surrounded by textbooks and notes. She stares at her budget spreadsheet on her laptop, the numbers glaring back at her like an accusation.

STAR :

I'm tired of feeling like I'm one mistake away from losing everything. It's time for a change. No more excuses. No more distractions.

Her phone buzzes, a text from Vanessa lighting up the screen: "Another night at Crimson? First round's on me!"

Star hesitates, her fingers hovering over the keyboard.

CRIMSON LOUNGE – NIGHT

The lounge pulses with music. Red and purple lights cast dramatic shadows on the walls. Star stands at the bar in her signature cute tomboy fashion: a fitted graphic crop top, a leather jacket, and mummy jeans. She nurses a beer, fidgeting with her straw.

VANESSA: (laughing, nudging her) C'mon, Star! It's not a real night out unless you let loose.

STAR: (half-smiling) I'm letting loose just… without draining what's left of my wallet.

VANESSA: (mock-pouting) You're no fun!

Star's eyes scan the room, stopping when she sees Yura, looking sharp in a dark button-up shirt and jeans. He's leaning casually against a table, surrounded by friends but with his eyes locked on her. Star's stomach tightens.

ALLEY BEHIND CRIMSON LOUNGE – NIGHT

The muffled thrum of bass and laughter spills faintly into the night as Star steps out of the Crimson Lounge, wrapping her arms around herself against the chill. The alley is narrow, dimly lit by a flickering streetlamp, and smells faintly of rain and city life. She exhales, her breath fogging in the cool air, trying to clear her mind.

Footsteps. She stiffens, turning sharply to see Yura emerging from the shadows. His hair was slightly mussed, giving him an almost disarming look.

YURA :

(softly) Escaping the crowd too?

STAR :

(flatly) Just needed some air.

Yura steps closer, hands shoved into his pockets, his eyes locked on her. There's something softer in his gaze now, something that catches Star off guard.

YURA :

You always do that.

STAR :

(eyebrows raised) Do what?

YURA :

(tilting his head) Act like none of this matters to you. Like you're too good for it. For all of us.

The accusation stings more than it should. Star squares her shoulders, meeting his gaze with defiance.

STAR :

(scoffing) And you're the expert on what matters, huh? Just because you've got everything handed to you on a silver platter?

Yura steps closer, close enough that she can smell the faint scent of his cologne woodsy, clean, maddening. His voice drops, low and serious.

YURA :

You don't know me.

STAR :

(mocking) Oh, right. Poor little rich boy with his perfect life.

His jaw tightens, but instead of biting back, he leans in, his voice a whisper now.

YURA :

(sincerely) And what about you? The girl with all the walls up. The girl who pretends she's got it all together but doesn't let anyone in. You think no one sees it?

Star falters, her pulse quickening. His words hit closer to home than she's comfortable admitting.

STAR :

(whispering) You don't know me either.

YURA :

Maybe not. But I see you.

The words hang in the air, heavy and intimate. Yura's gaze drops to her lips, lingering just long enough for Star to feel her resolve wavering. The space between them feels electric, charged with an unspoken pull neither of them can ignore.

He lifts a hand, brushing a strand of hair from her face, his touch featherlight. Star freezes, her heart hammering in her chest.

STAR:

(barely audible) Yura…

YURA :

(softly) Tell me to stop, and I will.

For a moment, she can't find the words. The noise from inside feels miles away as the world narrows to just the two of them, the tension crackling like a live wire. Yura leans in, his lips almost brushing hers

A sudden shout from inside breaks the spell. Star jumps back as though burned, her hand flying to her mouth.

STAR :

(whispering, panicked) This never happened.

Her voice trembles, and without waiting for a response, she turns and hurries back inside, leaving Yura standing in the alley.

Yura watches her go, his expression a storm of frustration and something else something unspoken, unresolved.

He exhales sharply, running a hand through his hair, and leans back against the brick wall, staring up at the night sky.

YURA :

(to himself) What the hell just happened?

CRIMSON LOUNGE – NIGHT

The pulsating beat of the music hits Star as she re-enters the lounge. The lights swirl in dizzying patterns, and the air is thick with laughter and chatter. She heads straight to the bar, determined to drown the memory of what just happened in the alley.

STAR:

(leaning toward the bartender) Another round. Make it strong.

The bartender raises an eyebrow but obliges, sliding her a glass filled with something neon and dangerous. Star downs it in one go, the burn in her throat a welcome distraction. She orders another, and then another, until the tension in her chest is replaced by a woozy, detached haze.

Vanessa finds her a while later, her concern visible despite the dim lighting.

VANESSA:

(raising her voice over the music) Star, are you okay?

STAR:

(laughing bitterly) I'm fantastic. Just living the dream, Ness.

Vanessa frowns but doesn't push further, instead steering Star toward the dance floor. The night dissolves into a blur of flashing lights, thumping bass, and endless drinks.

 STAR'S APARTMENT – MORNING

The sunlight slices mercilessly through the curtains, landing directly on Star's face. She groans, burying her head under a pillow, but the pounding in her skull won't let her sleep.

She finally sits up, wincing at the slightest movement. Her hair is a mess, her makeup smudged from the night before. She looks at herself in the mirror across the room and grimaces.

STAR:

(hoarse) I look like I got hit by a bus.

Her stomach churns, and she stumbles to the tiny kitchen, pouring herself a glass of water and sipping it slowly. The cold liquid does little to help her pounding headache.

She grabs her phone and scrolls through notifications, her stomach sinking when she sees her bank app alert. Reluctantly, she opens the app, staring at the dismal numbers in her account.

STAR:

(sarcastically) Wow. Negative twenty dollars. Living the dream.

She slumps onto the couch, cradling her head in her hands.

STAR:

(muttering) Okay, Star. You've gotta pull it together. You need a job.

Her eyes drift to her laptop on the small coffee table. She pulls it closer, opening job boards and scrolling through listings.

STAR:

(under her breath) Barista? No, they'd fire me in a week. Retail? Ugh, maybe. Data entry? Sounds boring, but beggars can't be choosers.

She starts bookmarking options, trying to focus despite the throbbing in her head.

 CAMPUS – LATER THAT MORNING

Star drags herself to class, her oversized hoodie and joggers hiding the worst of her disheveled state. Her eyes are bloodshot, and she moves sluggishly, clutching a giant coffee like her life depends on it.

Vanessa catches up to her outside the lecture hall, looking concerned.

VANESSA:

(eyeing her) You look awful.

STAR:

(flatly) Thanks. Just what I needed to hear.

VANESSA:

(teasing) Rough night?

Star shoots her a look, and Vanessa raises her hands in mock surrender.

VANESSA:

Alright, alright. But seriously, are you okay?

STAR:

(taking a sip of coffee) No. But I'm working on it.

Vanessa hesitates, then nudges her playfully.

VANESSA:

Let me guess you're finally going to get a job.

STAR:

(sighing) Yeah. I don't really have a choice anymore.

The two of them walk into the lecture hall, Star forcing herself to ignore the whispers and glances from classmates who notice her disheveled appearance. At the back of the room, Yura leans casually against a desk, his sharp eyes flicking to her as she enters.

His lips twitch, as though he's about to smirk, but he says nothing. Star ignores him, sliding into a seat and focusing on her notes.

STAR (V.O.):

I don't have time for distractions. Not anymore. It's time to figure my life out starting with finding a way to keep the lights on.

LECTURE HALL – MORNING

The professor's voice drones on, echoing faintly in the cavernous lecture hall. Star sits at her desk, her notebook open but untouched. Her pen hovers idly above the paper as her thoughts drift.

She bites her lip, her cheeks growing warm as the memory of the alley flashes unbidden in her mind: Yura's intense gaze, the way his voice softened when he spoke to her, the almost unbearable closeness of his lips to hers.

STAR (V.O.):

Why am I even thinking about this? It was nothing. A moment. A mistake.

But her heart betrays her, fluttering in her chest as the scene replays itself, sharper this time the heat of his breath, the faint scent of his cologne, the way the world seemed to stop when he leaned closer.

She shifts in her seat, suddenly aware of the warmth creeping up her neck. Star shakes her head, scolding herself silently.

STAR (V.O.):

Get a grip. It didn't mean anything. He's Yura. Annoying, smug, insufferable Yura.

Her pen slips from her hand, clattering onto the desk. She bends to pick it up, her movement catching the attention of Vanessa, who's seated beside her.

VANESSA:

(leaning over) You okay?

STAR:

(nodding quickly) Yeah. Just... tired.

Vanessa gives her a curious look but doesn't push further. Star exhales, determined to focus on the lecture, but a strange sensation tickles the back of her neck like she's being watched.

Slowly, almost unwillingly, she turns her head. Her eyes land on Yura, seated a few rows behind her.

He's staring right at her.

Her breath catches. His posture is relaxed, one arm draped over the back of his chair, but his eyes are anything but casual. There's an intensity there that makes her stomach flip.

And then he does it.

Yura lifts his hand, pressing two fingers to his lips in a gesture that's both teasing and maddeningly confident. His lips curve into a subtle smirk, as if he knows exactly what she's thinking.

Star's cheeks burn. She snaps her head forward, her heart pounding so loud she's certain Vanessa can hear it.

STAR (V.O.):

Oh, for the love of why is he like this?

She ducks her head, pretending to take notes, but her hand shakes as she scribbles nonsense across the page.

Behind her, Yura chuckles softly, the sound low enough to go unnoticed by most but loud enough to send another wave of heat up Star's spine.

YURA (V.O.):

(quietly) You're not as unreadable as you think, Star.

The professor's voice continues to echo through the room, but Star is a million miles away, trapped between embarrassment and something she refuses to name.

CAMPUS CAFETERIA – AFTERNOON

Star slumps in her chair, her head resting in her hands as Vanessa, ever the chatterbox, goes on about their group project.

VANESSA:

I mean, it's not that bad. We've done worse, right?

Star lifts her head slightly, shooting Vanessa a glare.

STAR:

Worse than being paired with him? (gesturing dramatically) Yura? The human embodiment of smugness?

Vanessa smirks, clearly amused.

VANESSA:

Come on, Star. He's not that bad. Plus, he's gorgeous. Can't that balance things out a little?

STAR:

(rolling her eyes) If arrogance was a sport, he'd be an Olympic gold medalist.

Before Vanessa can respond, the subject of their conversation strolls into the cafeteria. Yura, carrying a tray with effortless grace, scans the room. His eyes land on their table, and to Star's horror, he starts walking toward them.

STAR (V.O.):

Of course. Because the universe isn't done torturing me yet.

Yura places his tray down and takes the seat across from her, his smirk firmly in place.

YURA:

Ladies. Ready to make some magic happen?

STAR:

(flatly) If by magic, you mean a miracle to survive this project, then sure.

Yura leans forward, resting his chin on his hand as he studies her.

YURA:

I think you secretly enjoy our time together, Star. You're just too stubborn to admit it.

Star's jaw tightens, her hands curling into fists beneath the table. Vanessa intervenes, sensing the storm brewing.

VANESSA:

Alright, let's focus on the project, shall we?

CAMPUS LIBRARY – EVENING

The group gathers around a large table, laptops and books spread out. Star avoids eye contact with Yura as they hash out their roles for the project.

Every now and then, she feels his gaze on her, like a heavy weight she can't shake. Her irritation simmers, bubbling just beneath the surface.

STAR (V.O.):

I can't do this. Not with him. Not when my life's already a mess.

The clock ticks painfully slow, and by the time they wrap up, Star feels utterly drained.

VANESSA:

Same time tomorrow?

STAR:

(sarcastic) Can't wait.

Yura chuckles, clearly amused by her sarcasm.

DOWNTOWN – NIGHT

Desperate for a solution to her financial woes, Star finds herself wandering through the streets, her boots scuffing against the pavement. A "Help Wanted" sign catches her eye, taped to the window of a cozy coffee shop called Brewed Awakening.

She hesitates, staring at the sign as customers come and go. Her fingers fidget with the strap of her bag.

STAR (V.O.):

It's not ideal, but I don't exactly have options.

With a deep breath, she pushes open the door.

CHAPTER 2

THE COFFEE SHOP CONNECTION

BREWED AWAKENING – NIGHT

The warm scent of coffee and baked goods envelops her as she steps inside. A barista in a neat apron greets her with a friendly smile.

BARISTA:

Hey there! Looking for something specific?

Star points to the sign on the window.

STAR:

Actually, I'm here about the job.

The barista brightens and gestures toward the counter.

BARISTA:

Perfect timing. The manager's in the back. I'll grab him for you.

Star waits nervously, glancing around at the quaint decor string lights hanging from the ceiling, chalkboard menus with playful handwriting, and shelves lined with colorful mugs.

A tall man in his forties appears, wiping his hands on a towel.

MANAGER:

You're here about the job?

STAR:

(nodding) Yes.

MANAGER:

Have you worked in a coffee shop before?

STAR:

No, but I'm a fast learner.

The manager eyes her for a moment, then nods.

MANAGER:

Alright. Let's give it a shot. Can you start tomorrow evening?

Star blinks in surprise but quickly nods.

STAR:

Yes, absolutely.

MANAGER:

Great. Welcome aboard.

As Star leaves the coffee shop, a small smile tugs at her lips for the first time all day.

STAR (V.O.):

Okay, one problem solved. Now to survive the rest of my life.

BREWED AWAKENING – NEXT EVENING

Star pushes open the door of the coffee shop, now wearing a plain black t-shirt and jeans an impromptu attempt at looking presentable for her first shift. Her nerves bubble under the surface, but she pushes them aside as the familiar scent of coffee greets her.

Behind the counter, a tall, lean guy with tousled dark hair and a warm, easy smile is busy frothing milk. He looks up as the bell above the door chimes and spots her. His hazel eyes crinkle slightly with amusement as he sets the milk pitcher down.

GUY:

You must be the newbie.

Star blinks, a little caught off guard by how effortlessly handsome he is. His rolled-up sleeves reveal toned forearms, and he wears his apron like it's part of some casual fashion statement.

STAR:

Uh… yeah. That's me.

He steps out from behind the counter, wiping his hands on a towel, and offers her a handshake.

GUY:

I'm Lucas. But you can call me Luke. I'll be showing you the ropes.

Star takes his hand, her grip firm despite the slight flush creeping up her neck.

STAR:

Star. Nice to meet you.

LUKE:

Star, huh? Cool name. Alright, let's get you started.

BREWED AWAKENING – LATER THAT EVENING

The shop is quiet now, with only a few customers scattered across tables. Luke walks Star through the basics: taking orders, operating the espresso machine, and cleaning the equipment.

Star fumbles with the register, her fingers hitting the wrong keys repeatedly.

STAR:

Ugh, this thing hates me.

Luke chuckles, stepping closer to guide her.

LUKE:

It's just a machine. You gotta show it who's boss.

He reaches around her, his hand brushing hers as he presses the correct buttons. Star feels a jolt of electricity but quickly shakes it off.

STAR:

Thanks… I think.

LUKE:

You're doing fine. Don't stress. Everyone's a disaster their first day.

STAR:

Comforting.

Luke laughs, a warm sound that makes her lips twitch into a reluctant smile.

BREWED AWAKENING – CLOSING TIME

The shop is empty now, the chairs stacked on tables as Star wipes down the counter. Luke leans against the espresso machine, watching her with a curious expression.

LUKE:

You're picking it up quicker than most.

STAR:

(sarcastic) Oh yeah, I'm a natural barista. Watch out, world.

Luke smirks, tilting his head.

LUKE:

So, what's a second-year doing working nights?

Star pauses, caught off guard.

STAR:

How'd you know I'm a second-year?

LUKE:

(smirking) Lucky guess. Also, I've seen you on campus.

Star's eyes widen.

STAR:

Wait, you go to Hillcrest?

LUKE:

Yup. Third-year. Mechanical engineering.

Star stares at him, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious.

STAR:

Great. So now you can spread the word that I'm the broke girl working nights at a coffee shop.

Luke raises an eyebrow, his expression softening.

LUKE:

Why would I do that? Everyone's got their stuff to deal with.

Star relaxes a little, caught off guard by his sincerity.

STAR:

Thanks… for not being an ass about it.

LUKE:

Anytime.

STAR'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Later, Star collapses onto her couch, her muscles aching but her mood slightly lighter. She grabs her phone and sees a text from Vanessa: "Where are you? We missed you at Crimson!"

Star rolls her eyes, tossing the phone onto the coffee table. Her mind drifts back to Luke's easy smile and the way he didn't judge her.

STAR (V.O.):

Maybe this job won't be so bad after all.

STAR'S APARTMENT – MORNING

The sharp, grating sound of Star's alarm clock fills the room. She groans, rolling over and smacking the snooze button before sitting up slowly. Her body aches from her first shift at the coffee shop, and the thought of facing a full day at school is almost unbearable.

She grabs a hoodie from the pile of clothes on her chair, throws it over her tank top, and pulls her hair into a messy bun. Her reflection in the mirror is far from polished, but her tomboy-cute style makes it work.

STAR (V.O.):

Second shift tonight, a mountain of homework waiting, and a campus full of people I'd rather avoid. Perfect.

She grabs her bag and heads out the door.

HILLCREST UNIVERSITY – MORNING

The campus buzzes with activity as students move between buildings, chatting and sipping on overpriced lattes. Star weaves through the crowd, her mind racing with to-dos: finding time to study, prepping for her next shift, and somehow figuring out her budget for the month.

HILLCREST CLASSROOM – MORNING

Star slides into her usual seat near the back of the classroom. Vanessa is already there, scrolling through her phone.

VANESSA:

You look like death.

STAR:

Thanks, Ness. You're the ray of sunshine I needed this morning.

Vanessa puts her phone down, studying Star's face.

VANESSA:

Seriously, what's up? You didn't come out last night.

STAR:

I told you, I can't keep blowing money on nights out.

Vanessa sighs but doesn't push further.

The classroom fills quickly, and Star stiffens when she spots Yura walking in with a few of his friends. He's effortlessly cool in his leather jacket and dark jeans, his presence commanding the room as usual.

He catches Star's eye as he takes a seat across the room. For a split second, his lips twitch into the hint of a smirk, and Star feels the heat rise to her cheeks. She quickly looks away, focusing on her notebook.

STAR (V.O.):

Why does he have to exist? And why does he keep looking at me like that?

Her thoughts are interrupted when the professor begins the lecture.

INT. CAMPUS STUDY LOUNGE – MIDDAY

After class, Star settles into a quiet corner of the study lounge, pulling out her laptop and a half-empty notebook. She's halfway through reviewing notes when someone drops into the seat across from her.

It's Luke, his usual easy grin in place. He sets down a coffee cup in front of her.

LUKE:

Figured you might need this.

Star blinks, surprised.

STAR:

You didn't have to

LUKE:

(shrugging) Consider it a welcome-to-the-job perk.

She smiles despite herself, taking a sip.

STAR:

Thanks.

LUKE:

No problem. Besides, it's nice to see a familiar face. Campus feels huge sometimes, even in third year.

They chat for a while, Luke's laid-back energy helping to ease the tension she's been carrying all morning.

STAR (V.O.):

Maybe today isn't a total disaster after all.

HILLCREST CAFETERIA – AFTERNOON

Later, Star joins Vanessa and their usual group for lunch. To her dismay, Yura is there, lounging at the table like he owns it.

VANESSA:

(to Star) You're quiet today. What's going on?

Before Star can answer, Yura's voice cuts through.

YURA:

Let me guess. You're busy planning your next big escape?

Star narrows her eyes at him.

STAR:

Maybe I'm just trying to avoid unnecessary drama.

YURA:

(smirking) Unnecessary drama seems to find you anyway.

The table laughs, but there's an edge to the exchange that leaves Star bristling.

STAR (V.O.):

Why does he have to be everywhere I go?

CAMPUS COURTYARD – LATE AFTERNOON

As the day drags on, Star's energy starts to wane. She walks through the courtyard, her bag heavy on her shoulder, when Luke jogs up to her.

LUKE:

Hey, I forgot to mention don't stress about tonight's shift. I'll cover if you're running late.

Star smiles at his thoughtfulness, her day brightened slightly.

STAR:

You really don't have to.

LUKE:

I know. But you look like you could use the backup.

STAR (V.O.):

Maybe this whole thing won't be so bad.

CAMPUS COURTYARD – CONTINUOUS

The late afternoon sun casts long shadows across the campus courtyard. Students scatter in clusters, their voices blending into a low hum. Star stands under a large oak tree, her notebook tucked against her side as she listens to Luke. His laughter echoes softly, his easygoing charm drawing out a rare smile from her.

A few steps away, Yura exits the main lecture hall with his group of friends. His attention shifts involuntarily when he spots Star and Luke together. She's laughing now her eyes crinkling at the corners, her smile unguarded.

YURA'S POV:

Star leans slightly toward Luke, her posture relaxed. Luke reaches out and brushes a stray strand of hair from her face, his touch lingering just a moment too long.

Yura's jaw tightens.

FRIEND #1:

(gesturing to Yura) Dude, you coming?

YURA:

(snapping out of it) Yeah.

But his gaze lingers on them a beat longer, his expression unreadable. His friends start walking ahead, but he stays rooted in place, the faintest hint of jealousy flickering in his dark eyes.

YURA (V.O.):

Luke? Seriously?

Star glances up and locks eyes with Yura. Her smile falters for a split second, her cheeks tinged with an unmistakable flush. Yura raises a brow, his lips curving into a faint smirk that doesn't quite reach his eyes. Star quickly looks away, turning her attention back to Luke, but Yura has already seen enough.

CAMPUS PATHWAY – MOMENTS LATER

Yura trails behind his friends, his hands shoved deep into his jacket pockets. His usually confident stride is slower, his thoughts clearly elsewhere.

YURA (V.O.):

Why do I even care? It's not like she's (beat) No. This is nothing.

But his mind betrays him, replaying the scene he just witnessed. Her laugh, the way she looked at Luke it gnaws at him, a sharp pang he doesn't want to name.

CAMPUS STUDY HALL – EVENING

Yura sits at a table in the study hall, a textbook open in front of him. He's supposed to be reviewing notes for an upcoming exam, but his focus is elsewhere. He flips through the pages absently, his pen tapping rhythmically against the table.

Across the room, Star enters with Vanessa, her laughter ringing softly in the quiet space. Yura's gaze lifts instinctively, tracking her as she walks past him to a table in the corner.

Luke joins them shortly after, setting a coffee in front of Star. Yura's grip on his pen tightens, the motion halting abruptly.

YURA (V.O.):

This is ridiculous.

Shaking his head, he forces his attention back to his textbook, but the words blur on the page.

COFFEE SHOP – NIGHT

Later that evening, Star is wiping down the counter at work. Luke leans against the espresso machine, chatting with her as they close up.

LUKE:

You're picking this up fast, you know. First-day jitters aside, you've got a knack for this.

STAR:

(grinning) Compliments from the pro barista? I'll take it.

LUKE:

(laughing) You're not half-bad, Star.

The bell above the door jingles as the last customer leaves. Luke flips the "OPEN" sign to "CLOSED" and turns back to her.

LUKE:

So, any big plans after work?

STAR:

Not really. Just school stuff and, you know, surviving.

Luke chuckles, but before he can respond, Yura walks past the coffee shop window. He slows briefly, noticing Star and Luke laughing inside. His jaw clenches slightly, and he quickens his pace, disappearing into the night.

STAR (V.O.):

(unknowingly) Maybe today wasn't so bad after all.

YURA'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Yura sits on his couch, scrolling through his phone. He pauses on a picture of Luke and Star from the coffee shop's social media page Luke's arm casually draped over her shoulder as they smile for the camera.

He throws his phone onto the couch beside him and leans back, staring at the ceiling.

YURA (V.O.):

Why does it feel like she's everywhere lately?

The faintest flicker of a scowl crosses his face before he brushes it off, grabbing his laptop to bury himself in work.

CAMPUS STUDY HALL – MORNING

The following day, sunlight filters through the large study hall windows. Star, Vanessa, Yura, and the other two group members gather around a table cluttered with laptops, notebooks, and coffee cups. Star sips on her iced latte, her mind half-focused on the project and half-drifting to her new job.

STAR (V.O.):

If I can just survive this group project without strangling Yura, it'll be a miracle.

Yura sits across from her, his gaze flicking between the project notes and Star's occasional sideways glance at her phone.

YURA:

(flatly) Are we keeping you from something more important?

Star snaps her head up, her cheeks flushing.

STAR:

(sarcastic) Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were suddenly the project leader.

VANESSA:

(stepping in) Hey, let's focus, guys. We still need to finalize the presentation format.

Luke approaches the group, two coffees in hand. He sets one down in front of Vanessa and Star with a grin, then leans casually against the table.

LUKE:

(cheerful) Thought you could use a pick-me-up.

Vanessa beams at him, her eyes lighting up in a way Star hadn't seen before.

VANESSA:

Thanks, Luke. You're a lifesaver.

Yura's eyes narrow as he watches the interaction, but his gaze quickly shifts to Star, who catches his expression and raises a brow in confusion.

STAR:

(to Luke) What are you doing here?

LUKE:

(smiling) Just passing through. Thought I'd check in on you two.

Vanessa nudges Star playfully.

VANESSA:

He's sweet, right?

Star glances at Luke, then back at Vanessa. A realization dawns on her.

STAR (V.O.):

Oh. He's not here for me. He's here for her.

Star smirks but says nothing, turning her attention back to the project. Yura, however, misinterprets the exchange, his jaw tightening as he flips through the pages of their report with unnecessary force.

YURA:

(tense) Are we working on this, or are we socializing?

STAR:

(mocking) Someone woke up on the wrong side of the ego today.

The tension between them simmers, but Vanessa steps in again, steering the group back on track.

COFFEE SHOP – EVENING

Later that evening, Star finishes her shift at the coffee shop. Luke lingers by the counter, waiting for her as she cleans up.

LUKE:

So, Vanessa she's... cool.

Star pauses, glancing at him with a knowing look.

STAR:

(amused) You mean, you like her.

Luke hesitates, then shrugs with a sheepish grin.

LUKE:

Is it that obvious?

STAR:

(laughing) A little.

Luke leans closer, lowering his voice conspiratorially.

LUKE:

Any tips? You're her best friend.

Star rolls her eyes but can't help smiling.

STAR:

Just be yourself. She likes guys who are genuine.

LUKE:

(nods) Got it. Thanks, Star. You're the best.

As Luke heads out, Star shakes her head, a small smile playing on her lips.

STAR (V.O.):

At least someone's love life is going somewhere.

CAMPUS STUDY ROOM – NIGHT

The group meets again to continue their project. The atmosphere is tense but productive. Star and Yura sit on opposite ends of the table, carefully avoiding each other's gazes.

Vanessa and Luke's flirtation is subtle but noticeable to anyone paying attention except, apparently, Yura.

YURA:

(to Star) Can you double-check these stats?

STAR:

(flatly) Sure.

She takes the paper without looking at him, their fingers brushing briefly. The contact sends a jolt through both of them, but they quickly pull away, pretending nothing happened.

VANESSA:

(to the group) We're almost there! Just a little more polishing, and we'll crush this.

STAR :

(nudging Vanessa) With you leading us? No doubt.

Vanessa smiles, and Star stifles a laugh. Yura, however, watches the exchange with growing irritation.

YURA (V.O.):

Why does this bug me so much?

CAMPUS STUDY HALL – MORNING

The following day, sunlight filters through the large study hall windows. Star, Vanessa, Yura, and the other two group members gather around a table cluttered with laptops, notebooks, and coffee cups. Star sips on her iced latte, her mind half-focused on the project and half-drifting to her new job.

STAR (V.O.): If I can just survive this group project without strangling Yura, it'll be a miracle.

The group continues working, though the tension between Star and Yura lingers in the air. Every now and then, Star catches Yura glancing at her, his expression unreadable.

CAMPUS CAFETERIA – AFTERNOON

Star and Vanessa sit at a table, chatting over their lunches. Luke approaches, carrying his tray, looking slightly hesitant. Star waves him over, and he takes the seat beside her.

LUKE:

(to Star, low) Hey, thanks for letting me join. I just I don't know how to act around Vanessa without making a fool of myself.

Star glances at Vanessa, who's distracted scrolling through her phone, then leans closer to Luke.

STAR:

(whispering) Relax. Just be yourself. She's not going to bite.

LUKE:

(sheepish) Easy for you to say. You don't freeze up every time she walks into a room.

Star smirks, patting his arm reassuringly.

STAR:

You're doing fine. Stick with small talk for now. Mention the project it's a safe topic.

Luke nods, visibly bolstered by her advice, but he doesn't make a move to talk to Vanessa just yet. Star watches him with a mix of amusement and curiosity as he picks at his food nervously.

STAR (V.O.):

Baby steps, Luke. Baby steps.

Across the cafeteria, Yura sits a few tables away, his eyes flicking to Star and Luke. A frown creeps across his face as he misreads the dynamic between them.

CAMPUS STUDY ROOM – EVENING

The group meets again to continue their project. The atmosphere is tense but productive. Star and Yura sit on opposite ends of the table, carefully avoiding each other's gazes. Vanessa is engrossed in her notes, while the other two group members discuss logistics.

After a while, Vanessa stretches and glances at Star.

VANESSA:

Hey, Star, did Luke mention anything about the presentation practice?

Star shakes her head, trying to keep a neutral expression.

STAR:

No, he's not really involved in the project. Why?

Vanessa shrugs, a faint smile playing on her lips.

VANESSA:

He just seems really nice. Like he'd want to help out if we asked.

Star bites back a grin, keeping Luke's secret safe. Across the table, Yura's jaw tightens as he overhears.

Star nods, but her thoughts wander to Luke's earlier confession. She glances at Yura, catching him watching her with a flicker of something she can't quite place.

STAR (V.O.):

Why does it feel like everyone's watching everyone else lately?

CAMPUS LIBRARY – NIGHT

Star sits at one of the library's long tables, a stack of books on marketing strategy open before her. Her eyes drift toward the entrance as Luke strolls in, waving at her. He approaches with a cautious smile and takes a seat across from her.

LUKE:

Hey, how's it going?

STAR:

(exasperated) It's going. This project is a nightmare.

Luke chuckles, glancing at her notes.

LUKE:

Need help?

STAR:

No, but thanks. You should focus on your goal Vanessa.

Luke groans, running a hand through his hair.

LUKE:

I know, I know. I just… can't find the right moment to talk to her. Every time I try, my brain shuts down.

STAR:

(sympathetic) You'll get there. Just be yourself. Don't overthink it.

Luke nods, giving her a grateful smile. Yura walks into the library, his gaze landing on the pair. His expression darkens as he observes their seemingly intimate exchange from a distance.

YURA (V.O.):

What is it about her and this guy?

CAMPUS COFFEE SHOP – EVENING

Star opens her first paycheck at the coffee shop, her heart fluttering with excitement. Luke, who's there for his usual coffee, grins when he sees her excitement.

LUKE:

First paycheck vibes?

STAR:

(laughing) You have no idea how good this feels.

Later that evening, Vanessa invites Star to go out. Eager to celebrate, Star agrees and invites Luke along. They decide to go shopping beforehand to prepare for the night.

SHOPPING MALL – NIGHT

Star stands in front of a mirror in the dressing room, trying on a short pink skirt paired with tights, a big shirt, a corset on top, and chunky Converse shoes. Luke, waiting outside, claps when she steps out.

LUKE:

(grinning) Now that's a look.

Star twirls, mock posing as Luke laughs. He picks out his own outfit a casual shirt, a sweater vest on top, and baggy pants. Together, they look effortlessly stylish, like the perfect pair of best friends ready for a night out

Chapter 3

CONFESSIONS AND COMPICATIONS.

THE CLUB – NIGHT

Luke and Star arrive slightly late, finding everyone already there. The music is loud, and the atmosphere is charged. Yura's gaze locks on them as soon as they walk in, his expression hardening. He doesn't say a word but remains visibly tense.

Star takes a seat opposite Yura, barely noticing his sour mood. Drinks are passed around, and the group starts to loosen up. Star, not accustomed to heavy drinking, quickly feels the effects of the alcohol.

STAR (V.O.):

Okay, maybe I overestimated my tolerance.

She excuses herself, heading outside for some air. The cool breeze hits her face as she leans against the railing, trying to steady herself.

Moments later, Yura steps out, his jaw tight and his eyes blazing. He approaches her cautiously, but his voice is sharp.

YURA:

(cutting) So, what's going on with you and Luke?

Star turns to face him, her brows furrowing in confusion.

STAR:

What are you talking about?

YURA:

(jealous) Don't play dumb. You two are always together. Are you… dating him?

Star blinks, taken aback by his accusation. Then, a spark of annoyance ignites in her chest.

...me this right now? What does it even matter to you, Yura?"

YURA:

(stepping closer, frustrated)

It matters because I because I can't stand seeing you with him.

Star's eyes widen, caught off guard by the raw emotion in his voice. She looks away, her head spinning, partly from the alcohol, partly from his words.

STAR:

Yura… I don't understand. What are you trying to say?

YURA:

(softly but intensely)

I'm saying it drives me crazy watching you laugh with him, talk to him, be with him. I can't stop thinking about you, Star.

Star freezes, her heart pounding in her chest.

STAR:

You're just drunk. This is the alcohol talking.

YURA:

(quickly)

No. This has nothing to do with the drinks. It's been like this for months.

She stares at him, her emotions swirling in confusion and disbelief.

STAR:

Why are you telling me this now? Why wait until everything is so… messy?

Yura steps closer, his voice softening, almost pleading.

YURA:

Because I couldn't hold it in anymore. Seeing you with Luke tonight.

STAR:

(cutting him off, defensive)

Luke is just my friend!

Yura's jaw tightens, and his eyes search hers for the truth.

YURA:

Then why do you look at him like that?

STAR:

Like what?

YURA:

Like he's the only one in the room.

Star feels the heat rising to her cheeks, a mixture of frustration and embarrassment.

STAR:

You're imagining things.

Yura lets out a humorless laugh, shaking his head.

YURA:

Am I? Because right now, you're looking at me like you don't know whether to yell at me or

He doesn't finish the sentence, and Star feels her breath catch as the tension between them becomes almost unbearable.

STAR:

Or what, Yura?

His gaze drops to her lips for just a moment before returning to her eyes.

YURA:

Or kiss me.

Before she can respond, Yura closes the distance between them, cupping her face with both hands and pressing his lips to hers. The kiss is intense, fueled by weeks maybe months of suppressed feelings.

Star hesitates for a split second, but the warmth of his touch and the way he tilts his head to deepen the kiss makes her melt into him. Her arms wrap around his neck as she gives in completely.

Yura's hands slide down her back, pulling her closer until there's no space left between them. His grip is firm yet gentle, as if he's afraid she might slip away. Without breaking the kiss, he lifts her effortlessly, and she instinctively wraps her legs around his waist.

The cool night air contrasts with the heat between them, making the moment feel even more electrifying. When they finally break apart, both are breathless, their foreheads resting against each other.

YURA:

(whispering, a faint smirk)

Still think this is the alcohol talking?

Star opens her mouth to respond but finds herself at a loss for words. Instead, she buries her face in his shoulder, her cheeks burning.

STAR:

(softly)

You're impossible.

YURA:

(chuckling)

And yet, here we are.

The sound of distant music from the club reminds them of where they are, but neither moves. For a moment, the world outside their bubble doesn't exist.

STAR'S APARTMENT – MORNING

Star groans, holding her head as she sits up in bed. Her memories from the previous night are hazy at best. She remembers stepping outside for air, Yura following her… and then nothing but a blur of emotions and heat.

She shakes her head, frustrated with herself as she gets ready for class.

CAMPUS HALLWAY – LATER

As she's walking to class, she spots Yura leaning casually against the wall, chatting with some classmates. The moment he sees her, a slow, knowing smile spreads across his face.

Suddenly, it all comes rushing back the kiss, his words, the way he held her. Her face turns crimson, and she quickly ducks into the nearest bathroom, her heart racing.

STAR (V.O.):

Oh. My. God. What did I do?

HALLWAY – SAME TIME

Yura watches her retreat with a puzzled expression. His smile fades slightly as he wonders if Star regrets what happened between them.

CAMPUS BATHROOM – DAY

Star leans against the sink, gripping the cold edge as she stares at her reflection. Her cheeks are still red, and her heart hasn't stopped pounding.

STAR (V.O.):

How could I let this happen? What if… what if he thinks it meant something more?

She splashes cold water on her face, hoping it will help her clear her thoughts, but the memory of Yura's lips on hers lingers stubbornly.

STAR:

(whispering to herself)

Get it together, Star. You can't avoid him forever.

The door creaks open, and Vanessa steps in, spotting Star immediately.

VANESSA:

Hey! Are you okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost.

Star forces a smile, shaking her head.

STAR:

I'm fine. Just… tired.

Vanessa narrows her eyes, clearly unconvinced but not pushing further.

VANESSA:

Well, come on. We've got class.

Star nods, taking a deep breath before following Vanessa out.

CAMPUS CLASSROOM – LATER

Star slips into the classroom quietly, taking a seat in the middle row. She avoids looking around, especially in the direction where Yura usually sits.

Halfway through the lecture, she feels a tap on her shoulder. Turning slightly, her breath catches when she sees Yura leaning over from the seat behind her.

YURA:

(low)

Can we talk?

Star shakes her head quickly, whispering back.

STAR:

Not now.

Yura raises an eyebrow, but he doesn't push. He leans back in his seat, but she can feel his gaze on her for the rest of the class.

CAMPUS QUAD – AFTER CLASS

Star practically bolts out of the classroom, hoping to avoid Yura, but he catches up easily.

YURA:

Star.

His voice stops her in her tracks. She turns to face him, crossing her arms defensively.

STAR:

What?

YURA:

(firmly)

We need to talk about last night.

STAR:

(quickly)

No, we don't. It was a mistake, Yura. I was drunk, and I

YURA:

(interrupting)

You weren't that drunk. Don't use that as an excuse.

Star glares at him, feeling a mix of anger and embarrassment.

STAR:

Why do you even care?

YURA:

(softly, but intensely)

Because it wasn't a mistake for me.

Her breath catches, and for a moment, she doesn't know how to respond.

STAR:

Yura…

YURA:

(stepping closer)

Tell me you didn't feel it too.

Star looks away, her walls crumbling under his gaze.

STAR:

I don't know what I felt.

YURA:

(quietly)

But you felt something.

She doesn't answer, and the silence between them is thick with unspoken emotions.

YURA:

Star, I get it. You're scared, confused, maybe even regretting it. But I can't pretend it didn't mean anything to me.

Her eyes meet his, and for a moment, she sees the vulnerability beneath his confident exterior.

STAR:

I need time.

YURA:

(nods)

Take all the time you need. But just… don't run away from me, okay?

Star hesitates before nodding slightly. Yura steps back, giving her space, but his expression is resolute.

YURA:

I'll see you around.

As he walks away, Star watches him, her emotions in turmoil.

STAR (V.O.):

What am I supposed to do now?

CAMPUS QUAD – AFTERNOON

Star's heart races, Yura's words echoing in her ears: "I like you, Star." She opens her mouth to respond, unsure of what to say, when

VANESSA (O.S.):

"Star! There you are!"

Vanessa's cheerful voice cuts through the tension like a knife. Star flinches, turning to see her friend bounding toward them with her ever-present bright smile.

VANESSA:

"I've been looking everywhere for you! You're supposed to help me pick an outfit for the presentation tomorrow, remember?"

Star blinks, momentarily disoriented.

STAR:

"Oh, uh… right. Sorry, I got distracted."

Vanessa notices Yura sitting beside her and raises an eyebrow, her curiosity unmistakable.

VANESSA:

"Oh, hey, Yura. Didn't know you two were… hanging out."

The way she says it, light but laced with curiosity, makes Star's cheeks flush. Yura, on the other hand, leans back slightly, his expression neutral but his eyes still locked on Star.

YURA:

"We were just talking."

Vanessa nods, though her eyes dart between the two of them suspiciously.

VANESSA:

"Well, don't let me interrupt. I just really need Star's opinion. Star, come on!"

She grabs Star's arm and tugs her to her feet. Star stumbles slightly, throwing a helpless glance back at Yura.

STAR:

"I'll… see you later?"

Yura nods, his gaze unreadable as he watches her go.

CAMPUS HALLWAY – MOMENTS LATER

Vanessa drags Star into the empty hallway, finally letting go of her arm.

VANESSA:

(gleefully)

"Okay, spill. What was that about?"

STAR:

(trying to play it cool)

"What was what about?"

Vanessa gives her an incredulous look.

VANESSA:

"You and Yura. You were sitting so close, and it looked like he was about to kiss you or something!"

Star's face turns beet red.

STAR:

"He wasn't! We were just… talking."

Vanessa narrows her eyes, unconvinced.

VANESSA:

"Talking, huh? Funny, because it looked like you two were having a moment."

Star groans, pressing her hands to her face.

STAR:

"Vanessa, please. It's complicated."

VANESSA:

"Oh, it's definitely complicated. You're blushing so hard I'm surprised you haven't burst into flames. Just admit it you like him."

Star pulls her hands away, glaring at Vanessa.

STAR:

"I don't… I don't know. Maybe? Ugh, this is such a mess."

Vanessa smirks, folding her arms.

VANESSA:

"Sounds like someone needs to figure out what they want. And soon. Because Yura? He's totally into you."

Star's heart skips a beat, Vanessa's words swirling in her mind.

STAR (V.O.):

He likes me. He said it himself. But what do I want?

As Vanessa chatters on about outfits and presentations, Star's thoughts remain miles away, her mind firmly fixed on Yura.

CAMPUS AUDITORIUM – MORNING

The bright lights of the auditorium shine down on the stage as Star and her group prepare for their presentation. The room is packed with their classmates, all murmuring among themselves as they await the start. Star grips her cue cards tightly, her palms slightly damp with nerves.

VANESSA (whispering):

"You're going to crush this. Just remember to breathe."

Star nods, forcing a small smile. Across the room, Yura is adjusting the slides on the laptop, his face calm and focused. When he glances up and catches Star's eye, he gives her a quick, reassuring nod.

PROFESSOR:

"Alright, next group let's hear it!"

The group walks onto the stage, arranging themselves with Vanessa starting off the introduction. Star watches as Vanessa confidently sets the tone, her energy drawing the audience in.

When it's Star's turn, she steps forward, her voice steady as she explains their key points. She sneaks a glance at Yura, who mouths, "You're doing great." Her confidence grows, and she delivers the rest of her section flawlessly.

Yura closes the presentation with a polished summary, earning a round of applause from the audience.

PROFESSOR:

"Well done! That was an excellent example of teamwork and creativity. You've set the bar high."

The group exchanges relieved smiles, and Star can't help but feel a small surge of pride.

CAMPUS HALLWAY – LATER

After the presentations are done, the professor gathers the students in the hallway to make an announcement.

PROFESSOR:

"Great job to everyone today! Now, I have some exciting news. Next week, we'll be going on a class camping trip. It's a chance to relax, bond, and work on team-building skills. The trip will be supervised by third-year students, who will help coordinate activities and ensure everything runs smoothly."

The students erupt in chatter, some excited and others hesitant.

VANESSA:

(leaning toward Star)

"A camping trip? This is going to be so much fun!"

Star blinks, the idea of camping catching her off guard.

STAR:

"Wait, like actual camping? In tents and everything?"

VANESSA:

(grinning)

"Yep. It'll be great! Campfires, hiking, maybe even a little stargazing. What's not to love?"

From across the hallway, Yura and Luke are having their own conversation. Luke looks excited, while Yura wears his usual calm expression, though his gaze drifts to Star.

YURA (to Luke):

"Guess we'll see who survives the wilderness."

LUKE:

(laughing)

"It's not the wilderness it's a school trip. How hard can it be?"

VANESSA:

(whispering to Star)

"Yura's definitely coming. I wonder if this trip will, you know, bring certain people closer together."

Star groans, nudging Vanessa lightly.

STAR:

"Don't start."

Vanessa just laughs, already plotting ways to make the trip memorable.

Chapter 4

A TRIP TO REMEMBER

CAMPUS GROUNDS – A WEEK LATER, MORNING

The students gather at the meeting point with backpacks, sleeping bags, and tents in tow. The air buzzes with excitement and anticipation for the adventure ahead. Star, Vanessa, Yura, and Luke stand in a small circle, ready to embark on the trip that promises to change everything.

CAMPUS GROUNDS – MORNING

The students begin to board the buses lined up for the camping trip. Star and Vanessa are chatting animatedly, their excitement for the trip tempered only by the growing realization of what "roughing it" might actually entail.

As they approach their designated bus, Star suddenly stops mid-sentence, her eyes widening in shock.

STAR:

"Wait. Is that… Luke?"

Vanessa follows her gaze, her mouth falling open in disbelief. Standing by the bus, clipboard in hand and a confident grin on his face, is none other than Luke. He's wearing a casual outfit, but his new role as a supervisor makes him stand out.

VANESSA:

"Hold up. Luke's a supervisor? When did this happen?"

STAR:

(shaking her head)

"No idea. He never said anything about it!"

Luke notices them staring and waves, walking over with his usual easy going smile.

LUKE:

"Surprise! I got asked last minute to help supervise. Cool, right?"

VANESSA:

(still processing)

"Cool? You're a third year? Since when?"

Luke chuckles.

LUKE:

"Technically, yeah. I guess I forgot to mention that."

Star narrows her eyes at him, her hands on her hips.

STAR:

"Forgot or deliberately left it out?"

Luke shrugs sheepishly.

LUKE:

"Does it matter? I'm here now. And don't worry I'll still make sure you survive this trip."

Before Star can reply, the sound of high heels clicking against the pavement draws their attention. A stunning young woman with long, perfectly styled hair and a confident stride approaches the group. She's dressed in a way that screams effortless glamor, even in the context of a camping trip.

WOMAN:

(sweetly)

"Yura, darling! I didn't know you'd be on this trip."

Vanessa and Star exchange wide-eyed glances.

VANESSA (whispering):

"Who is that?"

Star doesn't need to ask. The way Yura stiffens slightly before turning to greet the woman tells her everything she needs to know.

YURA:

(awkwardly)

"Hi, Selena. I didn't know you were still involved with campus activities."

SELENA:

(laughing lightly)

"Oh, I couldn't resist helping out. Plus, I heard about the trip and thought it'd be a fun way to… reconnect with old friends."

Her eyes linger on Yura, and the implication in her tone is clear.

Vanessa leans closer to Star, whispering again.

VANESSA:

"Is this one of his exes? She's like… ridiculously gorgeous."

Star nods subtly, her jaw tight. Selena's polished demeanor and the way she keeps finding reasons to touch Yura's arm make it clear that she isn't over him.

STAR (V.O.):

Great. As if this trip wasn't going to be complicated enough.

Star tries to act unaffected, but she can't help glancing at Yura. He looks uncomfortable, but Selena's persistence seems hard to shake.

Luke steps in, sensing the tension.

LUKE:

"Alright, everyone. Let's get on the buses. We've got a long trip ahead!"

The group disperses, but not before Selena links her arm with Yura's and begins chatting animatedly. Star watches them board the bus, her stomach twisting in a way she doesn't fully understand.

Vanessa nudges her as they climb onto the bus behind them.

VANESSA:

"Don't let her get to you. You've got this."

Star forces a smile, but her thoughts are anything but calm. The trip hasn't even started, and it's already shaping up to be an emotional rollercoaster.

INT. BUS – ON THE WAY TO THE CAMPSITE

Star climbs onto the bus, her eyes scanning the seats. Yura is sitting near the aisle, subtly looking up at her, a flicker of hope crossing his face as he gestures to the empty seat next to him. Star hesitates, her emotions swirling with frustration and confusion over what she saw between Yura and Selena.

Without a word, she turns and slips into the seat beside Vanessa, her back firmly to Yura. Vanessa raises an eyebrow but doesn't comment, simply offering Star one of her earbuds.

STAR (V.O.):

I need a break from all this drama. Maybe if I just… sleep it off.

Star leans her head against the window, closing her eyes. The gentle hum of the bus and the rhythmic swaying quickly lull her into a deep sleep.

CUT TO: LATER ON THE BUS

The sunlight filters through the window, casting soft patterns across Star's face. She stirs awake, groaning softly, her hair a tangled mess and her mind foggy from her deep slumber.

STAR:

(half-asleep, mumbling)

"Where… are we?"

Vanessa laughs, unable to hold back her amusement.

VANESSA:

"Look who decided to join the land of the living! You slept like a rock, Star."

Luke turns from his seat nearby, grinning.

LUKE:

"More like a rock that got hit by a tornado. Your hair is wild."

Star instinctively reaches up, patting her disheveled hair and wincing when her fingers catch on a tangle. Her face flushes as she fixes her hair

Vanessa giggles, passing Star her compact mirror.

VANESSA:

"Relax, girl. It's a camping trip, not a runway show. But seriously, you were out cold the entire way. We were starting to wonder if you'd wake up at all."

Luke chuckles, leaning over the back of their seat.

LUKE:

"Yeah, I was about to call a paramedic. We even bet on how loud you'd snore, but surprisingly, you didn't."

Star groans, hiding her face in her hands, but their teasing slowly coaxes a smile out of her. For a brief moment, the tension from earlier with Yura and Selena melts away as she laughs along with them.

In the back of the bus, Yura watches from his seat, his jaw tightening. He sees the way Star is laughing with Luke and Vanessa, her earlier coldness toward him still fresh in his mind.

YURA (V.O.):

"So that's how it is. After everything I told her, she's just… laughing it off?"

Yura glances at Selena, who is sitting beside him and chatting with another third-year. She occasionally throws Star a smug look, clearly aware of the dynamic and using it to her advantage.

CAMPSITE – LATE MORNING

The bus pulls up to the campsite, a sprawling forest clearing surrounded by tall trees. The students pour out, stretching and taking in the fresh air. The third-years, acting as supervisors, begin organizing everyone into smaller groups.

Luke steps forward with a clipboard, his usual smile in place.

LUKE:

"Alright, everyone! Grab a tent buddy and help each other set up. Once you're done, we'll divide into activity groups for the rest of the day."

Star and Vanessa exchange glances.

VANESSA:

"Want to pair up?"

STAR:

"Definitely."

From a distance, Yura watches Star latch onto Vanessa, his frown deepening. As the pairs spread out to pitch their tents, Star and Vanessa work efficiently, laughing as they struggle with the poles and pegs.

YURA (V.O.):

"She doesn't even care. Why does it feel like I'm the only one still stuck in last night?"

Meanwhile, Selena saunters over to Luke, offering to help him oversee the groups. Her over-the-top friendliness grates on Yura, but he says nothing, instead focusing on his own tent.

LUKE (shouting):

"Okay, listen up! Once your tents are set, we're splitting into groups of three for some team-building activities. Supervisors will join the groups to guide you. Check the board for your assignments."

STAR:

"Team-building, huh? Sounds fun."

Star walks over to the board, scanning the list of names. Her stomach twists when she sees her group: Star, Vanessa, Yura supervised by Luke and Selena.

VANESSA:

"Oh, this'll be interesting."

Star nods stiffly, glancing at Yura, who is already heading their way. His expression is unreadable, but she can feel the tension radiating from him.

YURA:

(flatly)

"Looks like we're a team."

STAR:

(avoiding his gaze)

"Yeah… guess so."

Selena appears, her bright smile instantly irritating Star.

SELENA:

"This is going to be so much fun! We'll be like one big happy family."

LUKE:

(chuckling)

"Alright, team. Let's start with setting up our cooking station. After that, we'll dive into the activities."

Star forces a smile, but the combination of Yura's quiet frustration, Selena's pointed looks, and Luke's oblivious cheerfulness already makes her feel like this trip is going to be far from relaxing.

CAMPSITE – COOKING STATION SETUP

The group gathers their supplies, with Luke taking charge.

LUKE:

"Alright, team! We need to set up the stove, gather some wood for the firepit, and get the cooking utensils organized. Let's divide and conquer."

Vanessa raises her hand.

VANESSA:

"I'll handle the utensils. Star, want to help me?"

Star nods quickly, happy to keep her distance from Yura and Selena.

STAR:

"Sure thing."

Selena flips her hair, her voice dripping with sweetness.

SELENA:

"Yura, why don't we gather firewood together? We used to be such a great team."

Yura tenses but doesn't argue.

YURA:

"Fine."

Star watches them head into the woods, her jaw tightening. She busies herself with Vanessa, organizing the utensils and prepping the area. Luke notices the tension but doesn't comment, instead trying to lighten the mood.

LUKE:

"Teamwork makes the dream work, people! Let's not burn anything down, okay?"

Star chuckles at his effort, her earlier frustration easing slightly.

CAMPSITE – LATER

Once the cooking station is set, the group gathers around for their first team-building activity: preparing a simple meal together. Luke assigns each person a task, but the dynamic is anything but smooth.

Selena constantly hovers around Yura, offering unsolicited advice and leaning a little too close.

SELENA:

"Yura, you should chop the vegetables smaller. Remember how good we were at this kind of thing?"

Yura's polite smile barely masks his irritation.

YURA:

"I've got it, Selena."

Meanwhile, Vanessa nudges Star, whispering.

VANESSA:

"Can she be any more obvious?"

Star bites her lip to suppress a laugh.

STAR:

"Let's just focus on our part before I accidentally chop my finger off."

Luke notices the undercurrent of tension and steps in to keep things moving smoothly.

LUKE:

"Alright, let's speed things up, team. At this rate, we'll miss lunch!"

Selena flashes him a dazzling smile.

SELENA:

"Don't worry, Luke. I'm sure we'll manage just fine."

Star rolls her eyes, exchanging an exasperated look with Vanessa.

CAMPSITE – DINNER TIME

By the end of the activity, the group manages to pull together a decent meal, though the atmosphere remains charged. Around the fire, Star avoids looking at Yura, focusing on her food. Yura, meanwhile, keeps glancing at her, his frustration growing with each laugh she shares with Luke.

YURA (V.O.):

"She's really ignoring me… even after everything I told her."

Selena notices his distraction and smirks, leaning closer to him.

SELENA:

"Yura, you've been quiet. Remember when we used to sit like this during trips?"

Star clenches her fork, her appetite disappearing.

LUKE:

(trying to break the tension)

"Alright, everyone! Tomorrow's packed with activities, so get some rest. We'll need all the energy we can get."

The group disperses, and as Star heads to her tent, she wonders how she's going to survive the rest of the trip with all the tension and unresolved feelings hanging in the air.

CAMPSITE – FIREPIT – NIGHT

As the group begins to head toward their tents, the atmosphere remains heavy. Star lags behind Vanessa, her thoughts swirling, trying to make sense of her feelings.

Selena, as if sensing the perfect moment to strike, stops Yura just before they part ways. With a coy smile, she leans in and kisses him on the cheek.

SELENA:

"Goodnight, Yura. Sweet dreams."

Her words are deliberately loud enough for Star to hear, and she turns slightly, locking eyes with Star as if to ensure her message lands. Selena's smug smile is unmistakable.

Yura freezes, his eyes wide with shock.

YURA:

"Selena "

Before he can say anything, Selena saunters off toward her tent, her satisfaction evident.

Star stops in her tracks, staring at Yura and Selena in disbelief. Her heart pounds, anger bubbling in her chest.

STAR (V.O.):

"Seriously? Right in front of me?"

Yura looks at Star, his expression a mix of panic and guilt.

YURA:

"Star, I "

Star doesn't let him finish. She clenches her fists and turns on her heel, walking away toward her tent. Her pace quickens, her frustration mounting with every step.

VANESSA (calling out):

"Star! Hey, wait up!"

But Star doesn't stop. She storms into her tent and zips it up, shutting herself off from the world.

STAR AND VANESSA'S TENT – NIGHT

Vanessa ducks inside moments later, finding Star sitting cross-legged on her sleeping bag, her arms crossed and her face a mask of anger.

VANESSA:

"Okay, what happened? You looked ready to explode out there."

Star shakes her head, running a hand through her messy hair.

STAR:

"Selena. She kissed Yura. Right in front of me."

Vanessa's jaw drops.

VANESSA:

"She did what? Oh, that snake. And Yura? What did he do?"

STAR:

"Nothing. He just… stood there."

Vanessa groans, flopping onto her sleeping bag.

VANESSA:

"Unbelievable. That girl's playing games, and Yura's too stunned to see it. But you're mad because you care. Admit it."

Star sighs, burying her face in her hands.

STAR:

"I don't know. Maybe I do, but I also feel like he doesn't even get it. He tells me all these things, and then he lets her do… that."

Vanessa sits up, her tone softer.

VANESSA:

"Look, Yura likes you. That much is obvious. But he's got to step up and show it. And Selena? Don't let her get under your skin. She wants you mad because it makes her feel like she's winning."

Star nods slowly, though the knot in her chest remains.

STAR:

"Maybe you're right. I just… I need to sleep."

Vanessa grins.

VANESSA:

"Good plan. You'll need the energy to deal with those two tomorrow."

The lights in the tent go out, but Star's thoughts keep her awake longer than she'd like. All she can think about is the way Yura looked at her, and the way Selena smirked, like she had all the power.

STAR (V.O.):

"This trip is going to be harder than I thought."

Chapter 5WHISKEY AND REFLECTIONS

STAR AND VANESSA'S TENT – NIGHT

Vanessa rustles through her bag with an air of mischief as Star watches her, confused.

STAR:

"What are you doing?"

Vanessa pulls out a small bottle of whiskey, grinning.

VANESSA:

"Emergency feelings-numbing solution. Thought we might need this at some point, and it turns out I was right."

Star raises an eyebrow, torn between amusement and disbelief.

STAR:

"Vanessa, are you serious? We're in the middle of the woods with supervisors lurking around!"

VANESSA:

(unscrewing the cap)

"Exactly. We're in the middle of nowhere, and I'm not about to let Selena's drama ruin this trip for you or me."

Vanessa takes a swig and passes the bottle to Star, who hesitates for a moment before giving in.

STAR:

"Fine. But just enough to take the edge off."

The two laugh quietly, taking turns sipping from the bottle. Before long, the stress and anger of the day melt into a haze of giggles and half-drunken rants about Yura, Selena, and the absurdity of life.

VANESSA:

(slurring)

"You know… you're way too good for all this drama, Star. Like… way too good."

STAR:

(laughing)

"And you're way too good at smuggling whiskey into the wilderness."

The laughter fades as the whiskey takes full effect. The two girls slump onto their sleeping bags, mumbling incoherent thoughts before falling into a heavy, dreamless sleep.
