Chapter 1 - Beginning of fall

When the final ember of life flickered out from Lord Demure's soul, he felt only relief. A lifetime spent in ceaseless war had burned away every scrap of joy, grinding his laughter to dust beneath bloodstained boots. He had not lived for himself, but for a dream—freedom for his people.

Now, at last, he could rest. No more swords to draw. No more battles to fight. No more burdens to carry. And yet… why did his chest ache, even in death? Was it the bitter truth that he had failed to see his dream realized?Or was it the mocking laughter of the gods, echoing like cruel wind through the void?

"Why does this ceiling look… familiar?"

I blink.Raise trembling hands to my face.

"Why are my hands so small? Where are the scars—the ones from fighting the Apostle of Kant?"

My heart wrenches.Today… Is today the day my sister, Eloise, is killed?

I spring out of bed, frantic."Where is my sword? I need a weapon—anything!"

I tear through drawers, overturn cushions, my breath shallow with panic. Why is it that in moments like these, nothing ever shows up when I need it most?

Then—my eyes land on the desk.

A pen.Sleek. Sharp enough.

"This'll have to do."

I bolt through the hallway—a bull charging red.The corridor where Eloise and I once raced feels longer than ever before—each step an eternity.

My lungs burn. My legs scream.

I slam into her door.

Skill: Athleticism increased to LV.2

A scream shreds the silence.Eloise stares at me, face pale, as if seeing a ghost.

I scan the room. There—by the window. A dark silhouette. The assassin.

"ELOISE! RUN TO FATHER—NOW! ASSASSIN IN THE ROOM!"

As she turns to flee, I throw myself at the intruder. He falters, startled, clearly not expecting resistance so soon.

Eloise's footsteps thunder down the hallway behind me.

Skill: Stamina obtained. Would you like to add it?

"YES!"

Stamina LV.1 added

"Who sent you?!" I growl.

His face shifts—from fear to amusement.

"I don't know how you caught wind of us," he sneers. "But coming alone… that was your final mistake."

He lunges—a toad striking its prey, curved dagger gleaming like moonlight.I twist, roll, narrowly avoiding the death arc of his blade.

He's surprised.But only for a moment.

He attacks again, relentless.

I dodge—barely.

But this can't last. My stamina's fading. He's faster. Stronger. Armed. Skilled.

I'm bleeding. My limbs are heavy. My vision blurs at the edges. He's landing hits now—small, slicing cuts that add up.I grit my teeth, refusing to fall.

Then—

A roar.

A thunderous roar.

The assassin's smirk vanishes—and his body is hurled against the floor.A blur of power. Father.

My knees give out. There's a strange warmth in my chest. Not blood. Satisfaction.

I saved her.

Darkness takes me.
