Chapter 3 - Sparks & Sabotage

(4 min read)

Denki Kaminari was living the best life imaginable. Not only had he somehow managed to confess his feelings to Kyoka Jiro without spontaneously combusting, but she actually liked him back. And kissed him. Repeatedly. He was thriving.

The only problem? His friends would not stop spying on him.

"You guys are literally hiding behind a vending machine," Denki deadpanned, watching as Mina, Sero, and Kirishima peeked around the corner like they were in a spy movie. "Can you, like… not?"

Mina gasped. "Excuse YOU, we're documenting history!"

Sero nodded. "For research purposes."

Kirishima gave him a thumbs-up. "We support you, bro."

Denki groaned. "I cannot believe this."

Jiro, standing next to him, sighed. "Do you ever get a break from them?"

Denki threw his hands up. "Apparently not! I'm soooo glad our relationship is basically a spectator sport now!"

Jiro smirked. "Oh? You sure about that?"

Denki blinked. "Wait, what does that mean—"

Before he could finish, Jiro grabbed his hoodie, tugged him forward, and kissed him right there in front of everyone.

Mina screamed.

Sero actually dropped his soda.

Kirishima fist-pumped the air. "MY MAN DENKI! LET'S GOOOOO!"

Denki short-circuited instantly.

Jiro pulled back, crossed her arms, and gave the absolute smuggest smirk in existence. "There. If they're gonna watch, might as well give them something to see."

Denki blinked, dazed. "Oh my gosh, you weaponized my relationship."

Jiro shrugged. "And?"

Denki groaned, covering his face. "I am both horrified and impressed."

Mina, vibrating with excitement, grabbed Kirishima by the shoulders. "OUR BOY GOT OWNED."

Kirishima nodded solemnly. "Rest in peace, Kaminari."

Denki sighed dramatically. "I feel so loved right now."

Jiro smirked. "You should."

After recovering from yet another public display of emotional destruction, Denki decided he needed to do something special for Jiro—preferably without their entire friend group treating it like a sports event.

Unfortunately, luck was not on his side.

"I literally planned everything," Denki groaned, sitting on the couch in the dorm common area. "I booked the tickets, picked the restaurant, everything."

Mina leaned in. "So what's the problem?"

Denki sighed, rubbing his face. "The problem is Bakugo just stole my reservation spot."

Sero blinked. "Wait. How?"

"I have no idea!" Denki threw his arms up. "One second, I was checking my confirmation, the next second it literally says, 'Reserved for B. Katsuki.'"

Kirishima looked guilty. "Oh, uh… yeah, Bakugo may or may not have hacked the system."

Denki screamed.

Mina gasped dramatically. "YOU GOT SABOTAGED."

Sero whistled. "Brutal."

Jiro, sitting next to him, sighed. "So what now?"

Denki groaned, flopping onto the couch. "Now, I have zero plans, because Bakugo ruined everything."

Jiro rolled her eyes. "Denki. You really think I care where we go?"

Denki froze. "Wait—do you not care?"

Jiro smirked. "No. I just wanna spend time with you, idiot."

Denki short-circuited.

Sero patted his shoulder. "See, man? You're overthinking."

Denki, still recovering, muttered, "I'm so dumb."

Mina grinned. "Yes. But Jiro loves you anyway."

Denki groaned, burying his face in his hands. "I cannot handle this."

Jiro stood up, stretched, and grabbed his wrist. "Come on, dummy. Let's go anywhere and just hang out."

Denki blinked. "WAIT. I DIDN'T PREPARE."

Jiro smirked. "Too bad."

Denki let out a strangled laugh as Jiro dragged him out the door. "THIS IS NOT HOW I IMAGINED TONIGHT GOING."

Mina cackled. "We love to see it."

With their original plans ruined, Denki and Jiro ended up at a neon-lit arcade, the atmosphere buzzing with flashing lights, retro game sounds, and the occasional rage scream from an unlucky gamer.

"You know what?" Denki grinned. "This is actually perfect."

Jiro raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

Denki nodded. "Because tonight? I'm going to DESTROY YOU in every single game here."

Jiro smirked. "Big words, Kaminari."

Denki pointed dramatically. "IT'S A BATTLE NOW."

Cue absolute competitive destruction.

Denki and Jiro went to war over every game available. Pinball? Jironannihilated him. Shooting game? Denki got destroyed. Racing? Tie.

By the time they reached air hockey, Denki was desperate for redemption.

"I HAVE TO WIN AT LEAST ONE THING," Denki whined.

Jiro smirked. "Doubt it."

Denki narrowed his eyes. "Oh, it's on."

What followed was the most intense air hockey battle in history. Denki launched the puck like his life depended on it. Jiro blocked every shot like an absolute legend.

Until—

DENKI FINALLY SCORED.

"LET'S GOOOO!" Denki screamed, dramatically falling to his knees like he just won an Olympic medal.

Jiro sighed, shaking her head. "You're impossible."

Denki grinned. "And yet? You love me anyway."

Jiro rolled her eyes but smirked. "Unfortunately."

Denki gasped. "WOW. SO RUDE."

Jiro grabbed his hoodie and kissed him.

Denki short-circuited.

Mina, secretly spying, squealed. "THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT EVER."

Sero sighed. "I give up."

Kirishima nodded. "We gotta respect the chaos."

Denki, still recovering from the utter destruction of his brain, muttered, "I swear, you have too much power over me."

Jiro smirked. "And I plan to keep it that way."

And just like that, the disaster duo had the best unplanned date imaginable proving once again that sometimes, chaos is the best strategy.
