Chapter 11 - The Locked Office

No, why did I turn so quickly? I hope they didn't suspect anything because of the way I moved. I turned so fast because I knew he was a bad person, and I didn't know if he was going to influence Matteo, my husband, Luna thought as she walked away.

"Boss Matteo, are you sure your wife doesn't know anything about the mafia?" Lorenzo asked.

"Yes, she doesn't know anything about it. Why do you ask?" Matteo replied.

"No reason. Just curious," Lorenzo said.

Why am I still remembering the look in her eyes?

"Alright, can I go to the office now? Let me check the file on Renshi. We're going to give Jerry the job, and I'll make sure I find it before the end of today," Lorenzo said.

"You can go now. Head back to the office," Matteo replied.

"Okay," Lorenzo said as he stood up and walked back to the office.

I must not make any mistakes. I have to find out what's in that office. I need to know if he has killed someone. That guy, Lorenzo… he looked at me in a weird way, like he was seeing through me. But I know he can't suspect that I've found out. Luna thought to herself while sitting in her room.

Meanwhile, Matteo returned to the room to talk to Luna.

"I'm about to head out now. I told the maid that if Lorenzo needs anything—food, water, whatever—she should take care of it. If he bothers you in any way, let me know, but he won't," Matteo said, wrapping his arms around Luna's waist.

"Okay, no problem. You're about to go… just come back early, alright? You know I'll miss you when you're not around," Luna said.

"I'll try. I'm off now," Matteo replied, letting go of her waist and walking toward the door.

Luna followed him, watching as he left. She walked with him to the car, waving as he got in. He waved back before the driver pulled away, taking him through the gates.

Yes. Finally. This is my chance. I have to do something.

I need to watch the office closely.

Let me check if I can enter it first. I'll try bringing Lorenzo a cup of water. Maybe that will give me an excuse to step inside. Yes, that's a good idea. If I can just take a look around—even for a minute—that might be enough.

Luna walked toward the kitchen, opened the freezer, and took out a bottle of water. She poured some into a glass, then closed the bottle and placed it back inside. Holding the glass carefully, she walked out of the kitchen and made her way toward the office.

Just as she reached the doorway and was about to step inside, Lorenzo's voice rang out.

"Stop!"

Luna frowned. "What do you mean, stop? I'm just bringing you a glass of water. My husband said either the maid or I could bring it, but since you're his close friend, I decided to do it myself."

"It's fine. You can stay outside—I'll come get it," Lorenzo said, his tone firm.

"No, no, let me bring it in to you," Luna insisted, trying to step forward.

"I said it's fine," Lorenzo repeated. "Stay there. I'll take it."

He stood up, walked toward her, and gently took the glass from her hands. He drank the water, then handed the empty glass back. "Thank you," he said.

Luna forced a smile. "You're welcome."

Inside, she was fuming. Great. Now my plan is ruined. How am I supposed to get inside that office?

She turned and walked away, trying to think of another way in. Why won't he let me in? This office has been here for years, and I've never stepped foot inside. Did my husband tell him to keep me out? This is my husband's house, and yet Lorenzo has the audacity to stop me?

Meanwhile, inside the office, Lorenzo sat back down. He watched Luna disappear down the hallway and frowned. What is she up to? When I met her in the living room earlier, the way she looked at me—it was like she hated me for some reason. Is she suspicious of me? Or of her husband? Maybe I'm just overthinking it. I should focus on my work.

He shook his head and turned his attention back to searching for the file containing Renshi's identity and address.

Luna, still deep in thought, walked away from the office when she spotted a maid heading in its direction. She quickly stepped in front of her.

"Where are you going?" Luna asked.

"I was told to clean outside the office," the maid replied.

"Who told you that?"

"The boss," the maid answered.

Luna narrowed her eyes. "Matteo? My husband?"

"Yes, ma'am," the maid said.

Luna crossed her arms. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, he told me himself. He said I should clean outside the office, and once I finish, that's all I need to do."

Luna glanced at the cleaning supplies in the maid's hands and suddenly got an idea.

"Give me the bucket, the mop, and the broom," Luna said. "I'll do it."

The maid's eyes widened. "No, ma'am! If the boss finds out I let you clean, he'll be angry. He doesn't like you stressing yourself."

"Don't worry about that. He won't find out." Luna gave her a reassuring smile. "You've been working hard every day. This is your chance to rest. Go take some food, grab a drink, and watch a movie. He'll never know, and you know I won't tell him."

The maid hesitated but then nodded gratefully. "Thank you, ma'am."

She handed Luna the bucket, mop, and broom, then bowed slightly before walking away.

Perfect. Now I just need to get closer to that office. Luna gripped the handle of the mop and took a deep breath. This might actually work.

Luna decided not to reach the entrance. Instead, she chose to stay in the hall and clean while keeping a close watch on Lorenzo.

She took the broom from the bucket and set it aside. There was a tap in the hall, so she turned it on, filled the bucket with water, and placed it nearby. Her plan was simple—pretend to clean while observing Lorenzo closely.

She started sweeping the large hall, moving forward little by little, making sure to clean thoroughly since the floor wasn't very neat. As she swept, she watched Lorenzo, noticing how urgently he searched for the file. What could he be looking for in such a hurry?

As she moved closer, Lorenzo finally spoke up.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

Luna kept sweeping and replied casually, "Cleaning."

Lorenzo studied her for a moment. She was clearly sweeping, but something about it seemed off. His suspicion deepened.

Why is she coming near the office again? he wondered. She can't possibly know about the mafia, but has she started suspecting something about Matteo? Matteo was always careful, especially with his wife. He could be affectionate at times, but when it came to his secrets, he never let his guard down.

Does she know there's something inside this office?

Lorenzo felt uneasy. If Luna discovered the truth, it would be a serious problem—not just for Matteo, but for everyone.

Matteo hasn't always been like this. Before he met Luna, he was brutal, ruthless—a killer without hesitation. Back then, he wasn't the mafia boss, just a pawn for the former leader. A tool. A nobody. But he was feared. Even I was afraid of him.

Lorenzo clenched his jaw. If Luna finds out, she could become a threat. If that happens, I'll have no choice but to eliminate her before Matteo does. He exhaled sharply. But if Matteo finds out I was involved… I'll be dead.

He glanced at Luna again. She was still sweeping, still getting closer. She's suspecting too much.

Lorenzo knew he had to act before this got out of control. He couldn't tell Matteo—he didn't want to awaken the monster Matteo used to be. The man he worked for now was different, no longer the ruthless killer from the past. Matteo was his boss, but he was also his friend.

I need to put a stop to this before it's too late.

Taking a deep breath, Lorenzo stood up and walked toward the entrance of the office. It was time to confront Luna.
