The United Press has called me several times during the pes 24 hours with regard to an iter in Walter linchell's colurn printed in bew York Monday, March 16, and in the bushingtor. Feraldon Tuesky, Karch 17, es follows:
"John Edger Hoover is very ill after a serious sinun surgery."
The United Press states that it understends that you are suffering from a serious throct effection..
I stuted yesterity to the United Press, in response to these Inquiries, or my or authority, that I felt quite certuir there we nothing to these stories and runors, that I had been in frequent touch witl. you end that I felt certain there was no question of serious illness. The United Press asked ze, however, to get into touch: viti. you on this sulject. I called Mr. Tolson yesterózy but war unible to reach him. The United Press is getting quite excited about this and is deminding sore sort of response. On rare occasions Rills are reported favorably by the Judiciary Committee without contra-argument. Never, however, has a Bill been favorably reported by our Committee share there was sh unanimity of approval as that which was expressed Tuesday vinn approved the Bill which will to some small degree give concrete eri-dence of appreciation for your great contribution to the Nation's welfare. Perhaps, I am doing an improper thing in divulging the proceedings at an Executive Session but I feel that I must tell you and I am sure I an voicing the sentiments of the entire Congress and the Nation that our great Government is, indeed, fortunate in having you as one of its servants.
