Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

"This world is too magical."

It took May nearly five minutes to recover from the shock.

That was a Champion-level Lapras! How could someone catch it so easily?

Take Drake, for example. He had been in the Orange League for who knows how many years. As the Chief, he only had one Champion-level Pokémon—Dragonite.

That was the result of his own special opportunities and countless struggles.

And Riku?

Terrible timing, recklessly throwing a Poké Ball, and he actually succeeded?

If word got out, Drake would probably be the first to vomit blood.

"Not bad, not bad."

Riku was also a little excited. He helped May up first before slowly picking up the Poké Ball from the ground.

Base Stats

Whoa!

Riku almost jumped up.

Lapras's stat sheet, compared to Feebas's, was like heaven and earth!

I, Riku, have finally caught a pokemon!

"Riku, congratulations."

Although May was still in shock, she was genuinely happy for Riku.

"Come on out, Lapras!"

Impatiently, Riku immediately called out Lapras.

The Lapras that popped out of the Poké Ball looked confused at first, then its expression turned unwilling.

As a free and unfettered wild Pokémon, unless it encountered special circumstances, no Pokémon would willingly let a human catch it.

Seeing Lapras's expression, May leaned closer to Riku's ear worriedly.

"Riku, you have to be careful."

"Lapras might not listen to you. You should get closer to it."

"After a while..."

"It won't!" Riku was taken aback, then patted Lapras's head.

"Look, Lapras is so well-behaved. It looks like a very obedient Pokémon."

"Lapras, right?"

Lapras was a bit speechless. At this point, it was a fish on the chopping board. Did it dare say "no"?

If it were an ordinary Trainer, Lapras would definitely give them the cold shoulder.

But Riku exuded an invincible aura. Unless it wanted to die...

Lapras quickly nodded, and then a pleasant girl's voice suddenly sounded in Riku's mind.

"Master, I will be obedient and good."

"I hope you will treat me well in the future."

Riku was startled and a bit frightened.

He was sure that this was definitely not the system's voice. He didn't expect Lapras to be a girl, and her voice was quite nice.

"Lapras, don't you like giving humans rides while swimming?"

"Can you give me a swim in the lake?"

Lapras didn't hesitate at all and nodded directly.

Since Lapras was so straightforward, Riku jumped on its back without hesitation.

May exclaimed in surprise, "Be careful! Lapras was just caught. What if it throws you into the lake..."

Splash—

Before May could finish speaking, Lapras, carrying Riku on its back, jumped into the lake and swam very quickly.

Looking at Riku's happy smile and watching Lapras change direction according to Riku's instructions, May sighed helplessly.

"Riku is so lucky to encounter such a good-tempered Lapras."

"Why haven't I encountered such a good thing?"

If Lapras heard this, it would definitely complain vehemently.

This lake was quite large. The reason there were no other Pokémon was because it had occupied it.

Among Lapras, its temper was definitely one of the most willful and spoiled.

But now, what was done was done. It had been caught by a human.

Lapras was very smart and knew the power of humans. Once caught, it would eventually be tamed properly.

And constantly resisting...

Maybe the master would become impatient and directly "freeze" it in the Poké Ball.

For a Lapras that was always lively and loved playing in the water, that would be worse than death.

"May, want to race?"

Riku was very excited. Being carried by May's Blastoise usually was completely different from being carried by his own Pokémon now.

And Lapras was indeed very suitable for carrying people. Even at high speeds, there wasn't much bumping.

Unlike Blastoise, if Riku hadn't been physically strong, he would have vomited the first time he was carried.

Sometimes, people are just so realistic.

Before, Riku had envied May for having a Blastoise that swam extremely fast.

Now that he had caught Lapras, he immediately started seeing Blastoise's flaws, thinking it wasn't as good as his precious Lapras in any way.

If Blastoise knew what Riku was thinking at this moment, it would probably be very sad.

May was also spurred into action and quickly called Blastoise to jump into the lake.

Blastoise felt incredibly helpless.

They were all so grown up, why were they still acting like children? What was there to compare?

And it was a race against Riku, that great terror.

Losing would make them look down on it; winning might lead to resentment.

A dilemma!

But Blastoise was overthinking it. Even if it used all its strength, it wouldn't be a match for Lapras.

When Blastoise was directly thrown back five body lengths, May conceded defeat.

"Hahaha!" Riku said happily, "How was it? My Lapras is pretty good, right?"

"Hmph!" May was unwilling to admit defeat. "We'll find another place to try again another day!"

"Lapras is familiar with this lake. It counts as you cheating."

Actually, May was just being stubborn. She knew in her heart that going to the sea would make it even more impossible to compare.

But she had to fight for face.

She couldn't possibly have a Pokémon Coordinator admit that she was no match for Riku, who wasn't even a Trainee... a wild Trainer.
