Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Unwilling to Let You Go

Doctor Lane hesitated, "You can find out."

People who come to this private high-end hospital are not ordinary. Those who can come and go freely must have a family background.

Florence Fuller understood Doctor Lane's difficulty. She nodded and then slowly walked out of the lounge.

The heels of her shoes echoed in the quiet hospital corridor. She took off her shoes, carrying them, and familiarly walked to the door of the ward, quietly peeking inside through the small window glass.

She couldn't see the woman sleeping on the hospital bed. The only thing she could see was the bony hand with tubes inserted.

Evelyn Shaw and Charles Shaw were sitting by the bedside, silently watching their sleeping mother.

Florence Fuller watched for a while, her eyes burning, tears falling.

She turned away; in the overly silent environment, she didn't dare to cry out loud, lowering her head and silently walking out.

Upon leaving the hospital, the sky outside was already turning a faint blue, a moist wind swept by, and the morning sky had a kind of hazy blur.

Drizzle turned into a downpour, and Florence Fuller stood at the hospital entrance, looking calmly, with a sense of powerless annoyance.

From the Shaw Family... to the Fuller Family... to the Gardiner Family... to now...

It seemed as if she hadn't held onto anything.

———

"Today's meeting ends here. Next up is the launch of the seasonal new products, I'll rely on everyone."

The meeting ended, and the people in the room left one by one.

Chloe Quinn had noticed something was off with Florence Fuller and grabbed her things to walk out with her, "You've seemed a bit off these past two days, what's going on?"

"Just a bit of a cold," Florence Fuller replied.

Chloe Quinn squinted, "I don't think that's it... did your lousy husband cause trouble again?"

Florence Fuller shook her head, "By the way, I won't be going to dinner with Fris tonight, I have something urgent and have to fly to France. Can you handle it?"

"Of course, dealing with one is the same as dealing with two."

Florence Fuller laughed, "If you can't poach them, let it be, we'll look for someone else."

"I can, it's just a matter of money." Chloe Quinn laughed, with a confident determination.

"Then I'll be waiting for your good news." Florence Fuller waved her hand at her, "I have to leave now."

"If I'm successful, you owe me dinner," Chloe Quinn shouted to her back.

Florence Fuller made an okay gesture behind her.

Lily Lancaster had been waiting for Florence Fuller, and as soon as she saw her return from the meeting, she quickly followed her into the office.

"I've already looked into DN Dawn." Lily Lancaster placed the investigated documents in front of her, "As a renowned TV station in the industry, it was once extremely glorious, but in recent years, the viewership ratings have plummeted, and it seems their board no longer cares." Lily Lancaster analyzed, her intuition telling her that if DN Dawn continued like this, it would certainly become abandoned.

Florence Fuller flipped through the documents, pondering, "If I remember correctly, this boss is the chairman of Light Industries, right?"

"Yes, at the time DN Dawn wasn't even known within SJ." Lily Lancaster looked at her investigation record, "Light Industries was interested in a few hosts there, wanting to poach them and turn them into artists, but those people had long-term contracts with DN Dawn, and the breach of contract fees weren't small. So Light chose to invest in and collaborate with DN Dawn, directly acquiring half of Light."

Florence Fuller leaned back in her chair, eyes focused and thoughtful, twirling an alloy pen between her fingers. Lily Lancaster silently waited for her to think.

If she guessed right, the boss would want her to arrange a meeting with Light Industries' chairman.

"Get in touch with Light Industries."

Indeed!

Lily Lancaster immediately looked through her tablet, "I've already contacted someone at Light Industries. Chairman Sussex is on a business trip to TN City these two days, expected to return next Monday. His secretary mentioned he has no free time next week, but on Wednesday, he'll accompany his wife and son to the ranch in the southern suburbs."

Florence Fuller raised an eyebrow, looking at Lily Lancaster with full appreciation, "You're so smart, I won't want to let you go when the time comes."

"Boss, you've taught me well." Lily Lancaster giggled, "Rest assured, I'll definitely train someone from the secretarial office to be even better than me for you."

Florence Fuller smiled, "Alright, then communicate with Mrs. Sussex and ask if she'd be willing to have an extra person at the ranch that day."

Lily Lancaster paused, "Should I approach as President Fuller or Mrs. Gardiner?"

Florence Fuller looked at her, meaningfully, "What do you think?"

Lily Lancaster thought for a moment, "I understand. Also, your flight to France has been booked, for 7 in the evening."

Florence Fuller nodded, "Thank you for your hard work."

"Then I'll get busy, if everything goes well with Mrs. Sussex, you'll need to be back before next Wednesday."

"Okay."

Having a moment of free time, Florence Fuller finally picked up her phone.

Doctor Lane reported as usual on Ms. Linney's recent condition, and seeing the picture of the emaciated woman covered in tubes, Florence Fuller let out a choked sigh.

Hold on, mom.

She thought.

Luke Gardiner sent two messages, a string of punctuation marks, she didn't bother to reply.

Eleanor Sussex also sent over, with two pictures of little corgis, underneath bringing her a message: Ungrateful.

Florence Fuller: Is that so? Lapdog.

Two seconds later, a call came through, and Florence Fuller answered it, Eleanor Sussex's sharp voice coming through, "Florence Fuller, who are you calling a name, you..."

"Do you know Amelia Gordon?" Florence Fuller interrupted her.

Eleanor Sussex hesitated for two seconds, "What are you up to?"

"Help me arrange a meeting with her."

"You say so and I will..."

"That dog doesn't have a name, right?" Florence Fuller interrupted her. "Don't you want to know what name Luke Gardiner gave that dog?"

There was silence for a few seconds, "What's the name."

"Schedule the meeting first."

"She doesn't have time, she has a news report at six or seven in the evening, or tomorrow during the day..."

"It's ok, I can go find her."

"Fine!" Eleanor Sussex gritted her teeth, "I'll arrange it for you, what time?"

"Five o'clock! Don't play tricks, or you'll have to be careful."

"You...!" Eleanor Sussex said through gritted teeth, "I got it, so what's the dog's name."

"Luke Gardiner," she teased before hanging up, thinking Eleanor Sussex's expression must be stunned right now.

DN Dawn radio station.

Florence Fuller got out of the car, and worried about bumping into Charles Shaw, she wore a pair of sunglasses.

Eleanor Sussex said you could see the silhouette at the lounge area downstairs of the company building by five o'clock, but now, apart from a few receptionists, the whole building was empty.

She went up to the reception desk, "Can you contact Amelia Gordon? I have an appointment, it won't take much time, at most ten minutes."

The receptionist nodded, "I'll make a call for you to ask."

After talking over the phone, the receptionist said, "Miss Gordon says she's doing her makeup, please wait a moment."

Florence Fuller maintained a gentle smile, "I understand, thank you."
