Chapter 29 - C029 : New Parents

Once Shurry finally calmed down a considerable amount, from his understandable emotional display, he started eating the cut apples. Idunn simply held him close, a safe place. Baldr poured three cups of tea, fortunately it was on an enchanted item that could keep it fresh and warm.

As a cup was placed for Shurry, Baldr began to explain what happened after Shurry passed out. It took a little while to get through it all, but it needed to happen. "... So, Shurry, what is it you'd like to do now, son?"

"..."

Shurry was still struggling, hearing everything that happened, it made him feel a little bad about acting the way he did once he woke up. And as if sensing those thoughts were dancing in his mind, Idunn hugged him, crossing her arms in front of him, and laid her cheek upon the top of his head.

"You needn't apologize for that, son. Your actions are completely reasonable. So, don't apologize, you went through something truly horrific." She said in a comforting tone, carrying a divine sense of relaxation beneath the surface. "So, what do you wish to do now? You're free from Telskyura. Kali gave her blessing to let you go herself. And now, you're our little boy…"

Idunn's head lifted and looked down as Shurry's head tilted back to look up. What he saw was the face of a truly kind woman, the gentle look in her eyes, and the smile on her lips… It reminded him of someone… Not even Oluta was this kind.

"Mommy?" Shurry uttered, he couldn't help himself. "I want to get so strong that no one can take from me again. And… And… Maybe, if I can… I'll stop bad people…" His words were shaky, but they were honest. He really only cared to get strong enough to protect himself. But, no one could possibly blame him, not right now, not this time.

Even so, Baldr was curious. This boy, he's not turned towards the darker side of life? Even after that horrible struggle? I have to know why he didn't say to be strong even to prevent it from happening to others. And so Baldr asked, in a soothing, and curious tone. "Son, why do you not wish to prevent it from happening to others? I'm only curious."

Shurry's ears flicked a little. He liked hearing that name, so he answered. "Well, if Leon wasn't able to protect me… Then I'd need to be stronger than him. I can't see that height yet." He answered, struggling to find the words.

"I see, so it's a realistic approach then? You're a lot smarter than others your age. My place here handles various tasks out in the world, and we also handle training young people to handle the future. So you can-"

"Uhm…" Shurry interrupted, ancy, and squirming.

"Hmm? What is it, Son?"

"Uhm, can I… Uhm, well, I've… Uh, never had a papa before."

Idunn and Baldr both started giggling. "You can call me papa if you like." He reached out and rubbed the little werewolf's head, wearing a pleasant and happy smile.

And like a light warding away the darkness with a brilliant glow, Shurry's eyes lit up. And for the first time, since he woke up, he smiled, a true smile. "Papa!"

With a few moments passing, the three of them remained like that until there was a knock at the door. The one who knocked, entered the room, it was Leon.

"Lord Baldr, Lady Idunn, how is he? Oh, he's awake. That's good."

"Yep, he's going to go far in life. I'd like to start teaching him, my son, right away."

Upon hearing that one word in particular, Leon laughed for a moment. "Looks like I was right. You'll make a great papa. Shurry, you'd better grow up strong, you hear?"

"I will! I'm not going to be that helpless a second time!" Shurry declared, now with a light to ward off the darkest experience he's ever gone through back, only the light could shine. His eyes, full of determination, and childish ambition.

"Do you want to be a hero then?"

"Huh? What's a hero? Is that uhm, some kind of food, or drink?"

It was upon the asking of this question, and his answer, that the three in the room realized just how horrible the education of the young is in Telskyura. But when Leon was about to answer, he realized he didn't quite have the real answer for himself.

"It's someone who through their efforts saves those who can not save themselves? Though that might not be complete."

"Then, one doesn't need to be strong to be a hero? A smile can do a lot to brighten one's day right? To save someone from an inner depression?" Shurry asked, and then hugged Idunn, his tail flipping through the air, forming a question mark.

"That… Is a good point… Interesting, perhaps it's not a hero we should be seeking, and instead search for those with strength, and are also heroic?"

Baldr let Leon see a smile on his lips. One of the few moments where he would give a hint to Leon that he was indeed on the right path.

Shurry giggled, and then turned to Baldr. "Papa, I want to apply all of my points! Every last one of them. It should be enough to reach the maximum in level 1… I think…"

"Huh? You sure?"

"Yes, because I want to level up! And I'm going to be as strong as I can get!"

"And what if you have more than can be held?"

"Hmm? Can't you do what Kali did? She used a bunch of my excelia to get me that skill thingy. Maybe I'll get one from Papa too!"

Looking at the precious innocence returning to his eyes, Baldr couldn't help but be grateful his interference saved this one's inner light. Perhaps that spirit had something to do with it? Luna was it? Hmm… "I'll do my best, but you know, she only said that to you so you wouldn't feel bad. That was entirely your own doing. You earned the right to bear that title. So, let's see what you end up with after this."

Leon left the room, and guarded the door. Meanwhile, Baldr began the status update.
