Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Whoooo"

A gush of wind blew by and woke me from my sleep, which has been occurring a lot more than usual during these latter days, the dry wind reminded me of times that had gone by, it was the end of my seventeenth harmattan, al ot more dawned on the mind of children my age, it was the time where most adolescent my age would know where their destinies lie.

The noise from the village children brought the attention of the rain to me, they always started dancing before it happened and I always cautioned them to be careful as it was about to rain, the villagers around me smirked but started taking in their dried goods and clothes in preparation for the rain. Any outsider would believe we were all mad, why? The skies were clear and the sun was out but I knew, I felt the rain falling and was sure it was going to happen. My name was "Tedany" but the elder villagers referred to me as the forgotten prophecy." A prophecy is only a prophecy when the ears of man has heard them" my aunt Luchi always said that when I was blamed for something bad happening to someone by the village chiefs wife. I remembered an incident that happened to turn into a big circus of laughs….I remembered….

The expression on my face changed to shock, cause it was about to rain and I had left the grains my aunt Luchi told me to store in the house

I ran towards the house and saw empty trays on the ground. I felt relieved for a moment. Then it dawned on me that the only person who could carry the grains was aunt Luchi and fear rang in my heart. I walked into the house with the resignation of someone ready to face the consequences. I s aw her standing next to the window, looking out at the plains. She turned around and gave me a stare that gently turned into a smile, walked towards me and tapped me on the head and told me to follow her into the kitchen.

I heard this tale so many times but every time she told me it was new experience.

In the great kingdom of Aafari, with all its majestic glory and its hidden wounds, with vast expanse of divinity, Blessed by the gods and upheld by the people and advancement in technology, there was a tribe of people who could hear the earth, sing with the waters and predict the times. The only knowledge of them where in the tales the elder villagers shared during the long harmattan nights. These were the people of the ASE clan, whose members possessed a rare and mystical connection to nature. It was said that they could feel the earth's heartbeat, listen to the whispers of the wind, and communicate with the spirits of the land.

My aunt Luchi was one of the few remaining ASE, a lineage that had dwindled over the generations. She often spoke to me about our heritage, instilling in me the importance of understanding and respecting the natural world. "Tedany," she would say, "our gift is not just in hearing the earth, but in interpreting its messages. The future is like the web of the spider with some spaces wider than the other and with small but important joints."

As I followed her into the kitchen, I could hear the faint patter of raindrops beginning to hit the roof. The first signs of the rain I had sensed were now manifesting. Aunt Luchi handed me a small, intricately carved wooden box. "This," she said, "is the heart of our clan's wisdom. Open it only when you truly feel lost, for within it lies the story of your parents."

I nodded, taking the box with reverence. The rain began to fall more steadily, its rhythmic pattern a soothing backdrop to the weight of the moment. Aunt Luchi's eyes sparkled with a mix of pride and nostalgia as she spoke. "You, Tedany, are the beacon of our forgotten prophecy. The winds have chosen you to rekindle our clan's legacy."

The words settled into my soul, intertwining with the echoes of the wind and the scent of the rain. I realized that my journey was just beginning. The responsibility of our clan's knowledge and the gift of prophecy were now mine to bear but more importantly the legacy of destiny. The road ahead was uncertain, but with the guidance of my aunt and the whispers of the wind, I felt prepared to embrace my destiny.

As the rain continued to fall, I looked out over the plains, feeling a deep connection to the earth beneath me and the skies above. The future of my clan rested on my shoulders, and with each step, I would honor the legacy of my ancestors and the prophecy the earth had bestowed upon me.
