Chapter 2 - Chapter 02: Leaving a Chang Geng for You

As Zhou Bai uttered the final few syllables, Chu River's rapidly tapping fingers on the screen slowly came to a halt.

She looked up with a gentle smile, as if treating a former slightly clueless subordinate with compassion:

"Sorry, this new model is my first too."

Accurate to say, this antique phone was indeed a first for her.

If it weren't for employing spiritual power as help, she wouldn't even know how to use it right now.

The last time she saw this model of phone was at the Star Sea Museum; they had covered it in Chapter 2 of the elementary course.

Don't get it wrong, outdated technology wouldn't waste time at school, it was merely a segment of history in cultural courses. Experienced lecturers aimed to gather students' attention, specifically citing classic cases, projecting minute details in holographic images.

Just attempted a few times earlier—

Click.

How outdated, this era.

How peaceful, this world.

Mature thoughts hid within a young, tender body, unnoticed by anyone.

Zhou Bai was even somewhat smug:

"Right, right? I'm telling you, I was so lucky, woke at 6:00 am, booked on the official site, and the next day—hey, have you notified your family?"

Only halfway through flaunting did he remember the main point.

This girl was still soaking wet, if her family weren't called, it could get chilly in the early summer morning.

"Thanks, but no need."

The girl raised her dense eyebrows, examining him with a gradually weird stare:

"Your girlfriend on the phone…I'm guessing you haven't verbally declared a breakup?"

"Then…"

Seeing Zhou Bai furrow his brows, Chu River pondered the moral standards and customs of this pre-Great Cosmic Era Zheng Country, and tactfully switched approaches—

"Maybe you should dye that thing on your head green?"

Zhou Bai: …

Don't think that just because you're young and just crawled out of the water, I won't hit you!!

So infuriating, what kind of rebellious girl is this!

How come when I lend a hand, she curses me with a green head?

He got so angry it made Chu River pause—could it be she expressed it wrongly?

But in her memory, in neighborly brawls when faced with a girlfriend or wife's unfaithfulness, everyone would declare the other's head as green!

Isn't it a custom for victims of such tragic events?

She hesitated seldomly—

Blame it on not attending the cultural courses well back then.

Looking at Zhou Bai, even the most good-tempered man couldn't tolerate this, he coldly huffed, pocketed his phone, and curtly dropped a line:

"Fine, I told you to make a call and you didn't, still in the mood to check my messages—"

Thinking it over, still couldn't let it slide: "You're infringing on privacy, you know?"

"Seeing you still joking around, you must be fine, I'm leaving."

Saying so, he turned his head, directly brushing past Chu River.

The next moment, his collar got yanked back again. Who knew where the other got such odd strength, before he could react, he was pulled a step backward, back facing Chu River.

The innocent yet beautiful girl eyed him peculiarly, expressions gradually becoming odd.

She reached out her hand—

"I need money."

Zhou Bai: … So infuriating!

Who carries cash these days?

Chu River, having failed to acquire money and without a phone account, didn't rush to settle herself after Zhou Bai's muttering departure. Instead, she looked around, simply sat back on the stone platform by the railing.

It was already 7:30 am, the sun just right for drying clothes, she leaned back against the railing, slowly clarifying those new world memories in her mind.

About Zheng Country.

About the girl Chu River.

Zheng Country, nothing much to say about it, just like the ancestral country before the Great Cosmic Era in cultural courses.

However, leaping the Milky Way into the Great Cosmic Era, with external and internal threats, survival crises, battling the Insect Race every moment.

This is a survival war between different species.

And she, the Chu River Major General of Star Sea Federation Jingkong Mecha Headquarters, sacrificed herself for the final plan, at the age of 37.

Never thought she'd have another chance to open her eyes, never thought that upon waking, she'd reverse in time to the Mountain and Sea Star Era.

At this moment.

In the year 2019 AD.

Humans still lived on the mother planet, Mountain and Sea Star.

And a full 981 years before humans officially entered the Great Cosmic Era.

The sun glaring a bit, Chu River draped her jacket over the railing on her head, deciding against thinking about the complex physics of this time-space transition—it's all thanks to Chang Geng pulling her through school.

Now in a different world, with technology reverted by 1000 years, couldn't boost her IQ.

She wasn't yet knowledgeable about light theory—to this extent—unless Chang Geng was still by her side.

What a pity.

Having sacrificed herself, who would endure that guy's bad temper now?

A slight loneliness emerged, yet survival joy surged in her heart.

Instead, she intriguingly mused over this body—concerning the girl Chu River's surroundings.

The memories retained in her mind weren't a lot, after all when she woke in this body, the original had already been stiffening in the water.

Though moving limbs now posed no issues, retrieving past memories was somewhat sluggish.

Perhaps due to a swapped body causing spiritual power mismatch?

After thoroughly scanning complex memories, Chu River only realized afterwards—

"Ah, there's a makeup class today."

Raising her head to see, the school was so far, now she had no money, and had long lost her phone—most likely in this moat.

Anyway, it wasn't intentional truancy, was it?

Speaking of, those bastards who lured this young girl to the riverbank yesterday, how should they be dealt with?

The palm pressing slowly down, even without deploying spiritual power, the heartbeat could be felt slow yet steady—a very healthy body—

Such an unprovoked gift deserved at least basic gratitude and revenge, right?

The sun made the surroundings feverishly warm.

The celestial bodies around Mountain and Sea Star are always this intriguing. In the Great Cosmic Era, leaping countless galaxies makes finding such a blazing star difficult.

Not to mention a satellite called the moon.

If Chang Geng were here, he'd surely be happier.

He always liked these novel things best.

She closed her eyes, slowly rallying spiritual power under the warming sunlight—

Although a healthy body, there were some minor issues, just suitable for spiritual power repair.

What a pity, having signed up for a body experiment, once thinking of donating herself post-sacrifice to the Star Sea Laboratory, to let others study 3S level spiritual power's uniqueness.

Chang Geng would be especially thrilled, he'd wanted to see her brain for ages.

But during the final plan, everyone got blasted to not even leave ashes…

What a pity.

At least leave a complete corpse.

Leaving a skull for Chang Geng would do.
