Chapter 6 - Ascending to Heaven in One Step (4k3)

Whoosh!

A strong wind whipped up the fallen snow in the entrance tunnel.

Russell ran all the way in and could see traces of some devices on the ceiling of the tunnel leading into the headquarters base.

He had no doubt that triggering the defense system would immediately cause several anti-aircraft machine guns, and even laser weapons, to pop up from above and shoot unauthorized people into sieves after a few warnings.

But perhaps his speed, as fast as sound, made the general defense system unable to react in time.

Or perhaps his iconic ultra-high movement speed was recognized by the system as Red Rush, and he actually got in very easily.

Unsurprisingly, the hall was filled with blood and the remains of Superheroes; the scene was horrifying, and the strong smell of blood made one's stomach churn.

The only one who was still whole was a figure in a red cape who seemed to be lying on the ground, severely injured and unconscious.

Having specifically worked part-time at a supermarket killing fish for a year and a half, he had a very strong resistance to the bloody scene before him.

Russell didn't hesitate at all and rushed at full speed towards his primary target - Red Rush; as he rushed, he also kept an eye on the figure in the red cape.

He was really afraid that figure would disappear the moment he wasn't watching, and when he looked again, it would be silently floating behind him, his face shrouded in shadow, his eyes filled with coldness and brutality, looking down at him.

That was truly more terrifying than any horror movie.

He was just afraid that his already bloodthirsty uncle Omni-Man would kill him from behind without even looking to see who he was.

But fortunately, until Russell copied and applied Red Rush's ability template on his body, the unconscious figure didn't get up either.

With Red Rush's ability, Russell's speed instantly soared to over ten thousand times the speed of sound; at this speed, time seemed almost still, dust floating in the sunlight was fixed in mid-air, and everything was terrifyingly silent.

It was as if he was the only one left between heaven and earth.

Because sound waves propagating in any medium could not possibly keep up with his figure.

In the speed domain where time was almost stagnant, Russell's heart was filled with incomparable excitement.

If he wanted, he could, just by relying on the sonic boom clouds created by his running, turn a city with a population of a million into a place devoid of life in just one second, truly powerful like a god!

Compared to the power he now possessed, humanity's most terrifying crystallization of wisdom - the nuclear bomb - was nothing, just a slightly bigger firework.

[Copy Aquarius's template]

He passed by Immortal's head.

[Copy Immortal's template]

Just now, Russell thought that although Immortal wasn't dead yet, what was the difference between his current state and a corpse?

He couldn't do anything either; a child could even pee on his head.

He tried it, and it worked.

Passing by Darkwing, who had become a puddle, Russell glanced and then withdrew his gaze.

Unfortunately, the money ability couldn't be copied.

Also, Green Ghost didn't have any abilities copied either.

She herself was a normal person; her amazing abilities were all given by the green stone she swallowed, and that stone had already been shattered by Omni-Man.

"No wonder after this second-generation Green Ghost, there was no third-generation Green Ghost."

In the later stages, combat power was so scarce that they wished they could split one person in half to use, and Global Defense Agency Director Ciscel didn't even say to find someone to inherit Green Ghost's mantle.

Having obtained the ability panels of Red Rush and all the Global Guardians Superheroes, Russell was no longer so flustered when facing the seemingly unconscious Omni-Man.

There was a 99% chance that Omni-Man was faking severe injury and unconsciousness.

Viltrumites are not just numerical monsters; their vitality is even stronger, like cockroaches; they won't die even if their guts are spilled out, and they can even survive if cut in half and put back together.

And look at his uncle Omni-Man; now he's just suffered some internal injuries to his chest and his face is broken; what other injuries does he have besides these?

Just then, facing away from Russell, Omni-Man, whose face was covered in blood, opened his eyes with a grim expression, a hint of fear hard to hide in his eyes.

"Who is this person?"

"One Red Rush is dead, and there's actually another speedster this troublesome on Earth?"

At first, this person came in at the speed of sound; he didn't pay it any mind.

He just thought it was some eighteenth-tier Superhero known to the Global Guardians.

To avoid revealing that he wasn't seriously injured, Omni-Man kept pretending to be severely injured and unconscious.

Immediately after, the other party saw Red Rush's corpse, and as if startled, his speed instantly soared to a point where even he found it hard to keep up; he quickly ran a circle, as if checking to see who else was alive.

Although he couldn't see him, Omni-Man, with the intuition of a Viltrumite elite warrior, could feel that person staring at his back.

What was he thinking?

Did he discover he wasn't dead yet and see something from the traces of the battle at the scene?

Omni-Man secretly clenched his fist, coldly calculating in his heart what the chances were of catching and killing the opponent off guard if he suddenly erupted now.

"Uncle?" But just then, a familiar voice filled with surprise came; Omni-Man turned back in disbelief, seeing his nephew Russell actually standing there, and he involuntarily loosened his fist.

"Russell, you... why are you here?"

Surprise filled his heart; Omni-Man almost forgot his current state, and halfway through speaking, his voice quickly became weak and powerless.

"I feel very unwell today; actually, I've been feeling unwell for the past few days, and as a result, I awakened an ability; I found I could run very fast and couldn't control my speed; I had long wanted to come and take a look at the Global Guardians headquarters.

Plus, maybe I could even meet Red Rush and ask for some pointers."

But..."

Looking as if he was terrified by the scene around him, while looking around with a frightened expression, Russell incoherently helped Omni-Man up.

"S... someone attacked us."

If it were anyone else, Omni-Man would have already struck a fatal blow at this moment.

Even the Global Guardians he often fought alongside with before, he eliminated without hesitation, but after all, it was the nephew he had watched grow up, and he couldn't bring himself to do it for a moment.

Closing his eyes with difficulty, after Omni-Man finished speaking a sentence, like characters in movies who say half a sentence leaving people curious about the killer, he pretended to faint.

"Uncle, Uncle?"

Russell was in a flurry, and after finding that Omni-Man's heartbeat was fine, he seemed to finally breathe a sigh of relief.

He naturally knew Omni-Man was acting at this moment.

Omni-Man had to pretend that he and the Global Guardians had been attacked by a mysterious person.

Although the truth of this matter would be found out sooner or later, they could postpone that day's arrival as much as possible.

"Otherwise, the most powerful Superhero team on Earth is killed, and the only person capable of committing the crime happens to be injured, anyone would be suspicious."

Viltrumites have strong healing abilities, but they also cannot quickly recover from these injuries.

Russell could of course also copy the abilities and leave.

But there was probably no one else on Earth with his current speed; unless he didn't display his super-speed ability in the future, otherwise, as soon as he displayed it, Omni-Man would figure out it was him sooner or later.

Then his causeless arrival at the Global Guardians headquarters, seeing his uncle severely injured and unconscious but leaving without paying any mind, would be too suspicious.

Bang!

"Go, go, go!"

A steel door was precisely blown open by explosives, and a fully armed special forces unit wearing stealth armor filed in; seeing those famous Superheroes lying dead everywhere, with only one person standing intact, they were so scared they prepared to fire electromagnetic nets.

After all, at first glance, it looked as if Russell had slaughtered these Superheroes.

"Wait a moment." Global Defense Agency Director Ciscel Stedman, who was remotely commanding the unit, seeing Russell, who seemed unaware of what had happened, grabbed the microphone and quickly ordered them to stop.

"Don't shoot yet, wait until I get there."

Ciscel recognized Russell; when he used to go to Omni-Man's house, he had seen Omni-Man's nephew; he was only eighteen and just a senior in high school, just a normal person, so it was unlikely he had attacked the Global Guardians.

With a grim expression, Ciscel arrived at the scene.

"Wait, I've seen you before; you used to come to my aunt's house often to talk to my uncle about something." Russell looked at Ciscel, who was wearing a suit and had large burn scars on his face, asking him to hurry and help, "My uncle is injured, he needs treatment."

"Russell Hanson, I want to know how you're here; did Omni-Man bring you to visit the Global Guardians headquarters? What happened here?"

Putting down his subordinates' guns, looking at the high school student who looked bewildered as if he had stumbled into a murder scene, Ciscel pinched the bridge of his nose and said, clearly having a headache.

The stealth armor special forces unit confirmed there was no longer any threat at the scene, and a medical team ran in to collect the bodies of every Superhero and check if anyone could still be rescued.

Everyone had a shocked expression; the powerful Superhero team on Earth had become tragically dead bodies lying at their feet, and it was impossible for them not to be shocked and afraid.

"Who did this?"

"Omni-Man is still breathing, hurry."

"Immortal is dead."

"War Woman's vital signs have disappeared."

...

"I..." Russell repeated the words he had said to his uncle Omni-Man, "When I arrived, I saw they were dead, my uncle was severely injured and on the ground, I don't know what happened."

"Awakened super-speed ability?

Alright, you go down first; I'll arrange for someone to give you psychological counseling; you must be terrified."

Patting the young man's shoulder as gently and comfortingly as possible, he had his subordinates take Russell away; then, regarding the terrible situation before him, Ciscel finally couldn't help but kick the medical cart next to him flying.

"Damn it!"

Being led away by two medical nurses, Russell withdrew the gaze he had cast behind him.

Ciscel's anger was understandable; as the Director of the Global Defense Agency, he had to constantly worry about global safety, but then suddenly, on a normal morning, his strongest Superhero team was completely wiped out by an unknown person.

Almost the entire Earth's most presentable defense force was completely lost in one morning.

Without the Global Guardians, how could global stability be maintained.

Omni-Man was severely injured, and the Global Guardians immediately notified his family.

Aunt Debbie and Mark rushed over, not caring about school or work, arriving at the special ward of the Global Defense Agency headquarters; the first thing they saw was Omni-Man surrounded by top medical equipment.

"What happened to my dad?"

"Oh my god, Nolan."

The two looked in disbelief at the tall and muscular man on the hospital bed.

After all, the most powerful Superhero on Earth, Omni-Man, had always been isolated from hospital rooms.

Debbie rushed to her husband's side, trembling as she stroked his hair, forcing back the tears in her eyes.

Russell held Aunt Debbie in his arms, gently patting her shoulder, comforting the poor woman.

Regardless of Omni-Man, who was a classic tough guy who never easily showed emotion, Aunt Debbie indeed treated him like her own child since he was young, even taking care of his feelings; when there was something good to share between the two children, Mark always chose after him, even if it meant getting the worse share.

In the future, when Omni-Man's identity was exposed, caught in the middle, she would be the one suffering the most.

"Russell, are you feeling better from your low fever?" Wiping away her tears, Debbie asked about her nephew.

"I'm fine, Aunt."

Aunt Debbie just thought Russell had been brought here from home earlier.

"My dad isn't seriously injured, right?" Mark's eyes scanned over the very stable various vital signs on the medical machines, and he turned, anxiously wanting confirmation.

"By Earth standards, that's the case, but we lack medical experience with Viltrumites."

Director's assistant Donald outwardly looked like just a normal office worker, with a chubby body and a friendly face; he didn't give a definitive answer.

"Who did this?" Knowing that Viltrumite vitality was only stronger than Earth's, which meant his father wasn't in life-threatening danger, Mark clenched his fist in anger and immediately asked.

"I don't know, we are still investigating.

When we arrived, the only person still conscious at the scene was your Cousin Russell, but he didn't see anything either." Director Ciscel said, leaning against the side with a grim expression, arms crossed.

"Cousin, you were at the scene?" Hearing this news, Mark turned back in surprise.

"Russell?"

Aunt Debbie looked over blankly.

Her nephew, who had a low fever and took leave to stay at home, how could he appear at the Global Guardians headquarters a thousand miles away.

"Yes, I indeed did not see the culprit who attacked my uncle." Seeing the conversation turn to him, Russell took out the excuse for why he was there and used it again.

"Cousin, you have superpowers too?" Gripping his Cousin's shoulder, Mark was surprised and also felt a hint of relief and joy, like a friend getting the same good thing; the two would have more in common and wouldn't drift apart.

"It appeared shortly after the low fever."

After Ciscel shifted his gaze away from him, Russell subtly glanced at Ciscel while talking to his aunt and Cousin.

As expected, it was the Global Defense Agency Director who always remained suspicious.

That sentence just now was deliberately directed at him, to see if in front of his family he spent time with, he would reveal any flaws when saying those words, to confirm whether what he said was true?

But Russell was already mentally prepared, and besides, these words were for the good of his aunt and Cousin, so he said them with a clear conscience.

"We are still unclear why Omni-Man was at the Global Guardians headquarters last night, but we have reason to suspect that the person who killed the Global Guardians lured Nolan there, wanting to eliminate him as well."

After a moment of contemplation, Ciscel looked up and walked over, extending his hand to Russell and the other person, his tone serious.

"Putting aside that terrifying mastermind, all Supervillains wished the Global Guardians and Omni-Man would disappear; now some of them have disappeared forever, and some cannot show their faces for now.

Global Supervillains might be about to celebrate."

"We've met many times before; this time, let me formally introduce myself, my name is Ciscel Stedman, Director of the Global Defense Agency."

Russell immediately sensed this old fox's intentions.

Mark didn't know why he was suddenly saying so much; he just enjoyed Ciscel's serious tone treating him like an adult, and politely prepared to shake hands.

"Ciscel, how dare you..." Just then, Debbie, who had been worriedly watching her husband's injuries, stood up, like a mother hen seeing her chicks about to be lured away by a grey wolf, and she shielded the two children behind her.

She glared angrily at the bald, indifferent old man in front of her.

Having dealt with Ciscel for so many years, Debbie knew well that this was a guy who could be ruthless and unscrupulous for the safety of Earth.

The moment Ciscel lifted his butt, she knew what kind of 'shit' he was about to pull.

"Debbie, I'm sorry..." Ciscel's expression softened, showing apology, wanting to persuade her, "But..."

"Sir, the city center has suffered a very unusual attack." Assistant Donald, who received the report from his earpiece, suddenly stepped forward and reported in a low voice.

"What? So fast?" Ciscel frowned.
