Chapter 1 - A Tale of Love and Greed

You know how Deja vu leaves you confused? Well so can many other things. Like why it rains so much in April and mainly May, but the saying is 'April showers bring May flowers?' It's like it's a giant lie to deceive everyone. or maybe that's how it used to be. What I'm trying to get at is that not everything is always as it seems. Maybe in falling asleep you can make a dream come true or maybe in staying awake, that fear of the unknown will cease.

As I roused out of my bed, I continued to ponder these things. My gorgeous gray cat, Mercy, jumps into my bed headbutting me and purring. she did this when she wanted me to get out of bed to feed her, but lord knows, she needs to limit her food intake.

"Alright, alright" I say as I pull myself out of bed. My long blond hair falls on my shoulders and I begin to stretch. Mercy jumps down and heads to the kitchen, just meowing to her hearts content. boy does she love to talk. I put on some water in the kettle, sweet smell of cinnamon tea. I go to the cat food bowl and fill up Mercy's bowl, smiling at her.

"There you go my lil munchkin!" I exclaimed. I open the fridge to get my yogurt, trouble deciding between my red velvet yogurt or key lime pie. spoiler alert... it was key lime pie, The only good yogurt.

After I eat, I decide to go check the mail, outside in my light blue night gown and robe stepping on the dewy grass towards the mailbox. The willow tree's leaves blow in the wind and the spring air dances along my skin. As I sift through the mail, in my side view, I see a man very tall gazing at me from the woods. His curly long chestnut brown hair with hints of red in the sunlight as he approaches me.

"Hello M'Lady what commune is this if I may ask, it seems I am lost..." He chuckles nervously. I continue looking at him, astounded at not just his masculine physique but his armor he is also wearing which is adorned with silver. "What do you mean by ...commune?" I ask, puzzled by far. He gives me a pitied smile as if I'm dumber than a box of rocks and is providing me with half-assed sympathy. "It's like where people live together... as a community?" he questions me. I press my lips into my teeth as if I couldn't cringe any harder from how stupid I sound.

"You're not far from Lancaster, roughly seven miles east. Might I say, who are you?" I look at him curiously. He responds, "I am knight McKinley at your aid, Callum Marlowe." He smirks and glances up and down at me. " My, a woman wearing such clothes as that out in the open..." I shift my weight to one side, "Why are you wearing armor? Are you cosplaying or something?" I giggle.

"What is... Cosplaying?" he asks. I look at him dumbfounded. Almost to pique my interest, I think to myself 'what if he isn't from this timeline' no... that would be so ridiculous. what in the sci-fi am I thinking? I read too many books for my own good sometimes. He looks at me realizing I'm clearly lost and decides to speak up, "I am a Knight of The Duke of Lancaster." Considering what he just told me, I think I may be right about something, he isn't from 2025.

"What year is it if I may be so bold as to ask without sounding like a lunatic?" he ails.

"It's 2025" I proclaim to him. with oddity, his knees buckle as he lets out a laugh, bolstering his laughter to no end. I begin to think I'm in the presence of a lunatic with armor and a sword by his side and by the looks of it, he could pierce my heart with ease.

"You must be joking, right?" he rhetorically states. He shakes his head, "Even if you aren't, may I know your name?"

"My name is Caitriona Findlay." Realizing I probably shouldn't have told a random stranger my name...

"Caitriona... hmm, I'm assuming your family is of Scottish lineage?" he peaks, his face turns serious. of course, how could I forget. In whatever time period he's from, Scots and Brits never got along. "Then what year is it for you?" I look at him with my hand on my hip. "it's the year of our Lord 1415." I look at him with shock, AINT NO WAY. He's time traveled? so unfair! To go back in time and witness the renaissance and medieval era would be outstanding!

"Well, I'm sorry to say it but it isn't 1415 anymore. It's 2025 and you can ask anyone but to be honest, they may look at you weird." He looked at me seriously. I attempt to remain cordial as he continues to look me up and down. He could tell I was serious and began to clear his throat, "I'm not sure how this happened. I was walking through a cave for as short cut to aide another company's men but it seems I may be dreaming."

"Oh sir, I do not think you are dreaming, this is reality. would you like a cup of tea?" I wince as I shift my body towards the cottage because what am I doing offering a random man tea inside my house? Surely, I need to keep my wits about me, he may be trying to rob me.

He walks forward to my house and with each step I can hear his armor clanging against his body, The chainmail glistening in the sun. The red in his hair burns even more so in direct sunlight, now I can see the freckles that pattern across the bridge of his nose lightly, like angel kisses. His skin somewhere between the color of sand and beige. He looks to be somewhere in his late twenties.

I escort him to my front door.
