Chapter 2 - Tainted Lordvessel-(Part 2-God)

"Benefactor (Your Grace)."

Archbishop Anthony saw Beowulf Nova lower his head and fall silent while looking at the emblem. His voice was gentle, "If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Perhaps you can also choose to rest first and ask tomorrow."

"..."

Beowulf lowered his head in silence, not answering him.

Archbishop Anthony wasn't impatient about this and just waited quietly by the side.

At this moment, Beowulf was already lost in his memories.

Undoubtedly, the moment he tried to search his memories, he found them exceptionally messy and fragmented.

This was natural.

He remembered that he was Beowulf Nova, remembered that he was an Undead.

As an Undead, repeated deaths would gradually turn him into a Hollow, leading to gradual memory loss.

This also resulted in him having quite limited memories in his mind now.

He remembered the Fire Keeper, Patches, the Crestfallen Warrior, Solaire of Astora, Siegmeyer...the Onion Knight...of Catarina

(T/N - PRAISE THE SUN☀)

He also remembered his mission: to find the Lord of Cinder and rekindle the First Flame. He even remembered that he was once a transmigrator.

But regarding the memories before transmigration, only some vague fragments remained.

It was as if he remembered reading "Lord of the Mysteries," even reading it no less than five times during a book drought.

But now, his memory of the book's plot was already blurry.

Even though some impressions of the main characters remained, allowing him to recall that he had read "Lord of the Mysteries" based on these.

Beyond that, he could only remember a small number of fragmented plot points.

But he didn't know if these plot fragments were coherent or if they had any temporal connection.

If a person's memory was compared to a library, his current state was—

He still remembered the titles of most of the books in the library.

He even remembered the introductions and tables of contents for a few, but the content of almost all the books was already unclear.

So, although he tried hard to search the memories in his mind, he could never connect the scene before him with his memories.

"I..."

Beowulf opened his mouth somewhat dryly, "Where am I now?"

"Backland North District, Saint Samuel Cathedral."

Archbishop Anthony made four clockwise points on his chest and said in a low voice.

"Where is the Lord of Cinder?"

Beowulf pressed on with his question.

For him, who had lost most of his memories, the Lord of Cinder was the only important thing.

"I don't know what a Lord of Cinder is."

Archbishop Anthony shook his head, "But according to the Goddess's will, I can give you a hint: [Black Emperor]."

"Black Emperor?"

Beowulf muttered the term softly, his brows furrowing under his helmet.

He seemed to have heard of it somewhere, but he couldn't remember the specific details no matter how hard he tried.

Compared to this unknown Black Emperor, he felt that the Goddess of the Night mentioned by the other party might be clearer—

Since she is a God, surely she can be used as kindling to burn?

Although hunting a God must be difficult, he didn't care. It wasn't as if he hadn't killed one before.

"Strange."

Beowulf suddenly felt a bit startled and confused, "When did I kill a God? Are there real Gods in Dark Souls 3?"

"Forget it, none of this is important."

Beowulf, who had lost most of his memories, quickly stopped thinking because he knew thinking wouldn't yield any results.

"Anyway, first find a way to find this Black Emperor. If I can't find him, then find a way to find the Goddess of the Night. One of these two must be usable as fuel."

"And to find the Black Emperor..."

Beowulf looked up at the old man in front of him. Since the other party gave a hint, it meant he would provide some help in this matter.

So, currently, finding the Black Emperor should be relatively simple.

"Benefactor (Your Grace)."

Seeing Beowulf look at him, Archbishop Anthony spoke gently, "Do you have any other questions?"

"No."

Beowulf shook his head. He didn't even know what to ask, so how could he know if he had anything else to ask?

In short, end the conversation quickly and leave this Church to explore the outside first.

"Then."

Anthony made four clockwise points on his chest and said apologetically, "Benefactor (Your Grace), please forgive my rudeness for pulling you into a dream without permission. Please allow me to temporarily lift the dream."

As soon as the words fell, everything around them suddenly shattered like a mirror, as if revealing the true nature of this world.

However, after the surrounding space shattered, Beowulf was still in the same Church as before.

The old man who called himself Anthony was still standing in front of him. Everything seemed unchanged.

Until he saw the old man in front of him speak.

"...*&&@¥¥@..."

O_O

"..."

Beowulf quietly watched the old man who was speaking some incomprehensible language. The old man also seemed to realize that Beowulf didn't understand but didn't try to pull him into a dream again. Instead, he handed him a brown eyeball.

If one didn't look closely, they might even mistake it for a dark brown gem.

Beowulf took the eyeball and subconsciously glanced at it.

[

Wisdom Eye (3-0999)

A magical item made by a Sequence 9 Reader who was expelled from the Knowledge Church, who prayed to a hidden existence to understand various languages, paying the price of his life.

Allows ordinary people to understand the common language.

The holder will continuously receive whispers from the hidden entity. For safety, the holder's intelligence must not be lower than 9

]

"..."

Beowulf's expression under his mask twitched slightly. This reminded him of the scene when he was mocked by his magic teacher in Faron Woods when his intelligence was only 9.

"Benefactor (Your Grace)?"

Archbishop Anthony looked at Beowulf with concern, "Do you feel uncomfortable?"

Beowulf raised his head.

He understood what the other party said this time, and the corresponding term appeared in his mind—

Loen language.

"No."

Beowulf listened in silence for a while, then shook his head.

He didn't hear the whispers mentioned in the equipment description. Perhaps this was because his intelligence was extremely high—

At least not lower than 9!

"That's good."

Anthony nodded silently and continued, "Benefactor (Your Grace), do you need to rest first?"

"Where is the bonfire?"

Beowulf nodded slightly and asked politely.

Considering the other party gave him the Wisdom Eye, his attitude could be slightly better.

"I don't know what a bonfire is."

Anthony seemed to have been prepared for the strange 'term' Beowulf said. He just said gently, "However, I have prepared a room for Benefactor (Your Grace) upstairs. You can go and rest."

"No bonfire?"

Beowulf frowned tightly but didn't say much. He just silently followed Anthony upstairs.

He silently followed him into the room and silently watched him respectfully leave the room.

Silently, he fell into silence in the room with only one person.

Beowulf looked at the bed but didn't lie down to rest.

Because he couldn't rest without a bonfire.

So he walked towards the mirror hanging on the wall and slowly took off his Knight's helmet.

Under the helmet was a face that felt familiar and kind to him.

It was the face of a normal person, handsome and attractive, even a little young.

But the overall expression gave a feeling of seriousness and lifelessness.

But no matter what, he hadn't hollowed.

[Curse: 0]

Beowulf looked at his stats panel and saw that he hadn't accumulated any curses either.

This was natural.

Because he had the Lordvessel, he had to have the Fire Keeper cleanse the Dark Sigil before linking the fire.

Without the curse of the Dark Sigil, he was just Beowulf Nova with undead characteristics, so he naturally wouldn't hollow anymore.

Clearly, his memory loss was not due to the curse of hollowing.

That could only mean that he had been completely burned out after linking the fire, with only remnants left.

But if that were the case, then he must have had memories before linking the fire.

If that were the case, then why would he choose to link the fire instead of extinguishing it, taking it, or usurping it?

Beowulf had no related memories.

But he was certain.

With memories, he would never choose to link the fire, no matter what he chose!

But he also clearly remembered that his final choice was to link the fire.

Then.....

Why would he, with memories, choose to link the fire, and be willing to be completely burned out?

Could it be that before linking the fire, he had already lost his memories due to continuous deaths caused by the unremoved curse?

To link the fire… with no memories of why.

How ironic.

He had sacrificed everything.

And still… he had no idea why.
