Chapter 1 - Her Scent - My Silence

---

I squeezed my eyes in the mirror once again before brutally tossing the painkillers in my mouth.

I held the glass of water with shivers and jealously gulped till the last drop.

I kept looking at my ugly self in the mirror when I heard a knock on the door.

"Leah! You coming?"

I passed a hand on my mouth fearfully and hid the pills in the toilet paper roll.

That was one of my roommates

Zoe Monroe, a care free spirited girl with dark curly hair and big blue eyes.

She was like the head of the room.

The one who ensures pure security in the apartment.

I shivered in the right corner of the bathroom and responded back

"No-not feeling well tonight"

We were supposed to have a girls night out tonight but my cancer hit once again.

They didn't know I had cancer.

I wouldn't let them know I have cancer either way.

"Okay then have fun in this stinky place"

She replied back to me with a slight chuckle.

My head stopped throbbing. I was now rehydrated.

I heard the main door shut and the key clenching inside once again.

I finally got out of the bathroom with a slight sense of relief and reached over to the kitchen.

The apartment consists of three rooms basically

One is the bathroom and toilet

Two is the kitchen

And lastly our bedroom.

I met Zoe in a bar four years ago and that's where our friendship began.

My ex-boyfriend kicked me out and Zoe took me in.

Luna just joined us a year ago. Luna is Zoe's distant cousin.

Luna says she ran away from her parents' home because she was being abused physically.

Speaking of being abused.

I was always abused by my ex-husband both physically and mentally.

They were the most scariest times I've ever lived.

But I must say they're times I liked the guy, he was loving at some point even though when issues of work came in, he spent his anger on me.

*Ding*

I received a message from Zoe.

It was actually a picture of her and Luna at a bar.

"What's up bitch?"the tag said.

I chuckled before taking a pic of myself and sending it to her

"Don't mind me, bitch!" I tagged

I switched my phone off and made myself dinner.

My only thoughts at that time were how I was gonna tell Zoe and Luna I have cancer.

Wouldn't they throw me out?

Why won't they? Who would spend millions of cash on me. I myself do not even have hopes of living the next year.

I sat on the table quietly and ate my meal before something caught my eye,

A certain kind of envelope in Zoe's bag.

•To Zoe Monroe•

It caught my eye...

The way it was expensively sealed

What was in it? Should I open it or wait for her to come back?

What if it's a huge secret.

I just wanted to know from whom it was.

Zoe has never talked of boyfriends but she does love the bar.

She loves hanging out.

I found my self reaching for a knife and cutting the envelope open.

The letter fell to the ground and the first thing that caught my eye was

•From Walter•

Who is Walter?

Must be that taxi guy from today morning

He was kinda cute I wouldn't judge her if it's him.

I continued opening the letter and finally came across the full paragraphs.

•Bad evening babe,

Today was a really quirky day and full of bad luck for me.

The fact that you didn't even call to wish me luck to my new job...which I found out actually sucks.

I hate the fact that you are far away from me and I just can't hold you like I did the past months.

I miss your scent, the one that would wake me up in the morning for work, the one that motivated me to smile for the paparazzi.

I want you to come visit me just once in California and I'll show you the true meaning of "miss".

Zoe, I love you.

I hope you actually come.

Expecting you on September 23 2026.

~I wanna hear you're moans once again~

The paper slid down my hands in shock.

My eyes were wide enough and my jaw was laid out.

Babe?

Zoe is dating a guy? For how long

I'm guessing 2 or 3 whole months now

I couldn't believe it. I bent down to pick up the letter from the floor and sealed it once again.

I threw it back in her bag, washed the dishes and nervously entered bed.
