The forest was restless.
Riven stirred awake before dawn, his body sore but alert. Riolu lay curled at his side, breathing evenly, his aura steady. Zorua perched atop a log, her sharp gaze scanning the dark woods while Blaze kept low near the roots, his tail dimmed to a faint ember.
The Whispering Hollows had grown quieter, but only on the surface. Something deep beneath was stirring—waiting.
And the system agreed.

Riven packed his supplies and softly roused his Pokémon. They had a long day ahead—and it began with following a sound that wasn't sound at all.
Guided by the faint glimmer of aura threads visible only to Riolu, the team headed deeper into the woods. The air grew denser, and the mist thicker. Occasionally, a whisper would slither past Riven's ears—a name, a memory, a forgotten lullaby. None of it was real. Yet all of it sounded like something he once knew.
Zorua, unusually quiet, walked close. Even she couldn't fully mimic the strange distortions the forest was producing.
They reached a wide ring of trees—enormous, gnarled, and positioned in near-perfect symmetry. In the center, half-buried in moss, sat seven black stones, each carved with runes and shaped like jagged musical notes.
Riven stepped forward. A ripple of soundlessness pulsed outward.

Riven sucked in a breath. "Great. Either we solve this or we fight something nasty again."
He turned to Riolu. "You're key to this."
Riolu nodded and closed his eyes. As his aura sense flared, Riven felt the feedback through his bond—a pulse like a heartbeat, timed to each whisper.
Zorua sniffed the moss and flicked her tail toward the third and sixth stones, while Blaze pawed the ground by the second.
"Not random," Riven muttered. "They're reacting to our bond levels."
Each Pokémon seemed drawn to different stones.
Riven gathered his team and instructed them to stand by the stone that drew them.
Riolu by Stone 1.
Blaze by Stone 2.
Zorua by Stone 6.
Riven approached Stone 4—the only one that pulsed softly with his presence.
With each step, the whispering grew louder—not outside, but within his thoughts. He closed his eyes and listened.
A phrase formed.
"Only those who hear with the heart shall pass."
Riven opened his eyes. "Ready, team. On my signal."
He tapped Stone 1.
A low hum.
Then Stone 2.
The hum intensified.
Then Stone 6.
A ringing echo joined it.
Finally, he pressed Stone 4.
The sounds merged into harmony.
Then silence.
Then—a thunderous heartbeat echoed through the forest.
The center of the stone circle sank into the earth, revealing a spiral staircase made of interwoven roots and stone.

They descended slowly into the newly opened shaft. Riven lit a crystal lantern, and the glow revealed glowing carvings along the tunnel walls—scenes of trainers and Pokémon working as equals, side-by-side.
Riolu paused, touching one of the carvings with reverence. It showed a human surrounded by aura-type Pokémon, radiating empathy.
They reached a wide chamber bathed in bioluminescent light. In the center was a pedestal made of polished obsidian. Resting atop it was a shard—a golden crystal humming with energy.
Riven approached.

As soon as the shard was lifted, the pedestal sank, and the carvings on the wall shimmered.
A new carving emerged—one showing a symbol like the ring on Riven's Sanctum—surrounded by three treasures. At its base was a tree-like emblem rooted in crystal.
"Looks like we're on the right path," Riven murmured.
But peace didn't last.
The chamber began to tremble.
From a side passage emerged a serpentine creature made entirely of roots, with a mask-like bark face and glowing yellow eyes.
Combat Encounter – Echoborn Beast
Objective:
Defeat or disable the Echoborn Beast before it corrupts the Bond Crystal.
Do not let it consume Zorua's aura (weakness identified).
"Blaze, defensive front!" Riven shouted.
Blaze roared and took the front, slamming his full weight into the monster's lunging form.
"Zorua, scatter illusions around Riolu! Protect him!"
Zorua split into six copies, all dancing around Riolu in rapid motion.
"Riolu, now! Use Spirit Flame—strike its core!"
Riolu leapt through the illusions and delivered a burning punch of compressed aura directly into the beast's heart.
The creature screamed—not in sound, but in feeling. A wave of sorrow and rage blasted outward. Riven stumbled, momentarily overwhelmed by the emotion.
He clenched his fist.
"We're not letting this place corrupt what we've built!"
The final blow came when Blaze tackled the creature into the pedestal and Zorua unleashed Dark Pulse: Spiral Shred, newly improved thanks to her bond growth.
The Echoborn disintegrated into motes of golden light.

Back at their camp that night, the team sat around a meal of roasted Rootfruit and fresh berries.
Riven looked at them—his companions, his partners.
"You guys have come so far. We're stronger now… because of each other."
Riolu smiled softly, and for a moment, Riven felt his gratitude.
Zorua curled beside him, tail twitching happily.
And Blaze let out a huff and laid his massive head on Riven's leg.
Tomorrow, they would go deeper
But tonight? They rested as a family.
