Lyra's pov
"I think I'll wear the blue dress." I heard Clara tell her maid as I walked into her room.
Her room was magnificent and grand with a huge queen sized bed right in the middle. My lips parted as this was the first time I had dared entered Clara's room and I wasn't sure what exactly I had been expecting.
"What are you doing here?" Clara asked me coldly as she sent her maid away, ordering her to close the door as she left.
"Ashamed to let people know we are cousins?" I asked with a sad smile.
"I don't have time for whatever games you want to play Lyra, what are you doing in my room?" She glared at me and I wondered how everyone thought she was sweet, calm and meek. It was all a facade, a facade I knew all too well because I watched her while growing up. At first I wanted her to be a big sister I never had but at every turn she painfully reminded me the differences in our stations and made it very clear that no one was to know I was somehow related to her.
"Mava wanted to know if you wanted breakfast sent up to your room." I informed her. After Clara had been absent for breakfast at the pack dining room, everyone of slight importance had been worried. Clara was their golden child, a girl specifically brought up by her father to be the next Luna of our pack.
"I'm alright, I'm going out later so I'll just grab a bite then." She informed me and I nodded but made no move to leave as I discreetly assessed her room. I almost laughed as I pictured the four walls of the rat hole I called a room. It was filthy and wouldn't even make up to a quarter of Clara's room but I guess that was part of the perks of being the beta's daughter. You got to live a luxurious life, you had people at your beck and call and servants waiting on you.
"Was there anything else?" She asked, looking slightly annoyed. I snapped out of my thoughts and shook my head before I turned and exited the room.
"Is she alright?" Mava asked once I stepped into the kitchen.
"She's fine." I muttered. I was still baffled at how someone as harsh and uncaring as Mava could show such compassion towards Clara. If I hadn't seen how different she was to Clara I wouldn't have believed it.
"Good, we have a lot to plan." Mava announced with a twinkle in her eyes and I wondered what could have possibly made her happy... Mava was never happy.
"Gather around." She called out to the omegas in the kitchen as she clapped her hands.
"We have an event to plan. An event which will be the most significant thing which has happened in this pack in some years." She began vaguely as low murmurs broke out.
"You have the privilege of organizing everything about this event and making it special and a memorable day... it's not everyday omegas get such an opportunity." She continued and I internally groaned.
Forget the peptalk, this meant more work for us.
"Alpha Erik has finally chosen a mate and we have to make sure everything is prepared in time for the ceremony." Mava divulged and the room erupted in cheers.
What was the big deal if Alpha Erik had finally chosen a mate?
"The council informed me just now and even though it is on such short notice we will have to do everything in our power to ensure tomorrow is perfect for them." She continued.
Tomorrow? How were we possibly expected to organize and decorate the pack house in time for a ceremony tomorrow?
We would have to work ourselves to death. A few omegas seemed to agree with my line of thought as they began to grumble and murmur among themselves.
"Silence. I won't take any disrespect from any of you. You are all omegas and your duty is to serve. To serve the pack and more importantly to serve your Alpha so if the alpha decides he wants the place ready in an hour for an event, you make it happen with no questions asked." Mava's voice boomed in the kitchen, silencing everyone.
"I'll allocate your works and you are to get to it immediately. I don't want to see anyone slacking or else I'll assume you are free and need more work." She informed us, considerably more calmly.
Mava shared our works and in no time we were scrambling to get our tasks completed. There was much to be done in so little time and the pack house became chaotic as we went about our works while trying to stay out of the way of the other pack members.
"I always knew Clara would mate Alpha Erik, it was just a matter of time. They are the dream couple." Two omega's who were washing dishes beside me giggled between themselves.
So Clara was getting married to Alpha Erik, I couldn't say I was suprised although I felt a small stab of envy within me. How could one person be so lucky and have it all while the rest of us were simply unfortunate an scraping for crumbs.
"She has the poise of a Luna, she has the elegance of the Luna and the cherry in the top is that she's the beta's daughter. She's perfect, who else could possibly fit I to the role better than her?" The other omega pointed out and they were right. Clara was perfect in every possible way. Alpha Erik would have been a fool not to choose her as his mate. She had been born and breed specifically for the position and no one could possibly compete with that.
