Epilogue: The Legacy of choices

Introduction

In the quiet village of Twabidi, nestled in Ghana's Ashanti Region, the lives of Opanyin Danso and his family unfold against a tapestry of faith, tragedy, and prophecy. This is a story of divine promises tested by human frailty, of twins destined for opposing paths, and of a mother's unyielding prayers.

From the cocoa farms of Tepa to the political arenas of Ghana, "Written But Not Confirmed" chronicles the lives of Abital and her sons, Samuel and Nemuel—one a beacon of righteousness, the other a prisoner of his own rebellion. It is a tale of choices that defy fate, of redemption sought in the darkest hours, and of the enduring belief that even the most broken paths can lead to grace.

Chapter 1: The Roots of Faith

The Tragedy in Twabidi

Opanyin Danso and his wife, Abena Duruwaa, lived in Twabidi, a suburb of Tepa in the Ashanti Region. Opanyin Danso was born and raised in a traditional home in Twabidi. His life took a tragic turn when his parents were both killed by a huge tree on their way to the farm. Left orphaned, he moved in to stay with his uncle, who became his guardian.

A New Path

When Danso was almost thirteen years old, his uncle sent him to school. It was there that his class teacher, seeing the innocent boy being led into what he perceived as spiritual destruction by his uncle's traditional beliefs, introduced him to the Christian religion. Danso's uncle did not force him to worship ancestral gods after Danso declared he would no longer participate in idolatry. Instead, his uncle warned him: "The white man's God is not the god of our ancestors. Worship our gods, not theirs."

Building a Life

Danso completed Form Four and, inheriting the cocoa farms his uncle had left him—originally owned by his deceased parents—took a wife, Abena Duruwaa, to help manage the land. Abena, who knew nothing of Christianity, was gradually introduced to the faith by Danso. Together, they became devout members of the Church of Pentecost.

Barrenness and Prayer

For years, the couple struggled to conceive a child. They prayed fervently, clinging to their faith despite societal shame and whispers about their barrenness. Their persistence was rewarded in their old age when God blessed them with a daughter, Abital—named after one of King David's wives in the Bible.

Abital's Dawn

Abital grew into a beloved child, obedient and respectful to everyone in Twabidi. At nine years old, she began her education, learning to read, write, and memorize the Bible. Her devotion to God deepened with each passing year, bringing joy to her aging parents.

A Father's Trust

When Abital completed Junior High School, Opanyin Danso, though wary of the world beyond Twabidi, trusted God's plan as he arranged for her to attend Kumasi Girl's Senior High School. He placed her in the care of Elder Sunkwa, a church elder in Kumasi who frequently visited Twabidi to oversee his cocoa farm.

Chapter 2: Abital's Journey

A New Chapter in Kumasi

When Abital completed Junior High School, her parents planned to help her further her education to the Senior High School since she had passed her exams and had gained admission to a girl's school in Kumasi. Opanyin Danso trusted his only daughter in the hands of Elder Sunkwa. Elder Sunkwa was one of the Elders in their church who stayed at Kumasi but owned a cocoa farm at Twabidi, and therefore used to visit the village frequently to check on his farm.

The Sunkwa Household

Elder Sunkwa had a family of seven, made up of his wife and his five children and a nephew, Kwaku Bonsu, whom he had adopted from Twabidi to take care of, after the boy's mother—Elder Sunkwa's younger sister—died. Kwaku Bonsu was a thorn in the flesh of his uncle; he gave his uncle problems upon problems. He had taken his life into his own hands and had been roaming on the streets of Adankwame, a town near Kumasi. Hardly did he stay home, let alone to be seen and advised. He had rejected the idea of schooling and had refused any attempt made by his uncle to enroll him in learning a trade. Although Kwaku Bonsu became a burden to Elder Sunkwa and his family, he still kept him like his own son because of his late sister and the fact that Bonsu would have no place to stay if he had driven him away. He only prayed and hoped that one day Bonsu would change to become that person he had wanted him to be.

Arrival and First Impressions

When Abital and Elder Sunkwa arrived home from the village, Kwaku Bonsu was not in the house. He had been roaming and sleeping on the streets of Adankwame and its locales for a week then. Abital was introduced to the rest of the family members who were at home, and they were told Abital had gained admission to study Business at the Kumasi Girl's Senior High School. For that matter, she would go to school and return home every day except non-school going days. Abital was warmly welcomed and enjoyed staying with Elder Sunkwa and his family. She stayed happily in her new home since all the people she met in her new home were lovely people, but little did she know that there was a certain 'trouble' who had not yet been introduced to her.

The Unseen Storm

Elder Sunkwa said something to her concerning Bonsu but didn't stress his impudent behavior. He only said, "I have one other nephew who is not at home at the moment, but I don't know when he will come home." Abital pictured Bonsu to be a responsible person who had gone to work or perhaps gone on a business trip, but she didn't bother to ask any questions about him.

Kwaku Bonsu Revealed

Days later, Bonsu came home looking horrible and dirty. When Abital first saw him, she guessed he was a 'vagabond' who probably picked up garbage from people's shops and homes and took money from them to dispose of the garbage. This was the most surprising thing she had seen people doing ever since she came to Kumasi. Abital heard Mrs. Sunkwa talking to him and complaining about his attitude. He came out and stood at a distance and watched Abital for a while. He went close to her and asked, "Are you the new house girl?" Mrs. Sunkwa introduced her to him as a family friend who had come to stay with them and strictly warned him not to give her any problems. Abital didn't say anything to him. Bonsu left the house with the intention of proposing to Abital the next time he came home.

The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

That very evening, Bonsu came home neatly dressed with a nice haircut. He went straight to his uncle and his uncle's wife and greeted them, promising to be of good behavior from that day. For days, Bonsu didn't leave home for the streets, and during all these days, he made peculiar actions toward Abital. Upon realizing his dirty objective, Abital reported him to his uncle. Bonsu was given a strong caution to abort his plan because the day he tried that, he would be arrested and imprisoned. Bonsu shamefully left home. This time, he packed most of his clothes and went back to the streets.

Relentless Pursuit

Abital started schooling and went to school every morning, returning to the house in the evening as a day student. Bonsu, however, didn't give up on Abital. He was determined to get her into bed, whether willingly or forcefully. His friends gave him plans on how he would win her heart. Bonsu had met Abital either on her way to school in the morning or on her way home in the evening with his plan to get her at all costs. She had strongly resisted him and had even refused to talk to him at all at certain times. When his effort to trick her proved futile, he settled on a different plan.

False Repentance

Kwaku Bonsu went home with most of his clothing, looking remorseful and ready to be of good behavior. He went about apologizing to his uncle and the rest of the family about his attitude. He wept bitterly as a sign of penitence for his actions toward Abital, which made him shamefully pack out of the house. Kwaku really showed the family he was a changed person and was willing to be obedient to his uncle and his wife and to be nice to the rest of the family. Although his uncle didn't trust his mousy and pleasant behavior, he didn't throw him out of the house. Kwaku wept for days and refused to eat anything given to him. This made everyone believe he had really regretted and repented of his actions.

A Family's Forgiveness

Mr. Sunkwa called the family together and talked to them to forgive him and live in peace with him in the house. They all wholeheartedly forgave him and accepted him as a son and a brother.

Chapter 3: The Serpent in Eden

The Night of Betrayal

After some weeks, Bonsu visited his wicked plan when the family least expected that from him. He sneaked into Abital's room when everyone was asleep in the middle of the night. He forced her and succeeded in raping her. Bonsu took to his heels right after that act. The traumatized young girl wept bitterly and reported to Elder Sunkwa what Bonsu had done to her. That very night, she was rushed to the hospital. They later made follow-ups to arrest Bonsu but they didn't find him.

A Mother's Resolve

Weeks later, Mrs. Sunkwa discovered Abital was pregnant. She was given special treatment and care and was allowed to continue schooling until her seventh month when she was taken to her mother at Twabidi to deliver. There, she stayed till her ninth month and gave birth to twins—two boys. After a year, Abena Duruwaa took her babies and nurtured them. Abital was sent back to school to start as a first-year student, this time as a boarder.

Twins of Destiny

Although Opanyin Danso and his wife were not that rich, they did their best to provide everything Abital needed in her education. She passed her examination after three years in the Senior High School and furthered her education to the tertiary level. She graduated from the university with a second-class upper division and was working with a banking firm rendering mandatory service to her nation.

Rebuilding a Life

During this period, she took her two sons, who had already been enrolled in school at Twabidi, away from her parents and brought them to Sunyani, where she was doing her service. She enrolled them in a private school.

Loss and Legacy

Opanyin Danso fell sick for a while and died when Abital was still doing her service. After some years, her mother also passed on, leaving her an orphan. Although the loss of both parents was a great loss, she was not disadvantaged by their demise, since she was permanently employed at her place of service at that time and was being paid well. Therefore, she took full responsibility for herself.

A New Beginning

After some years, Abital was able to rent an apartment for herself and her two children. She also bought a car to ease her movements to and from work. She again moved her sons to a better school than where they were, to give them the best of education.

Chapter 4: A Mother's Resolve

A New Home in Sunyani

Abital had been a member of the Christian Foundation Church, Sunyani branch, since she completed her tertiary education and had been very close to the head pastor and his wife. She and her two kids were loved by everyone in the church because they were peacemakers.

The Weight of the Past

Men from her church who were single had tried to settle down with Abital, a mother of two, because of her Christ-like behavior. Initially, Abital did not want to settle down with any man because of her past experience with Kwaku Bonsu. She thought men were wicked. The head pastor and his wife did their best and took her through counseling to habilitate her into the marriage institution as ordained by God. After a series of counseling sessions, she was able to accept that all men were not as cruel as Kwaku Bonsu; hence, she would give someone the chance to show her love and care.

A Godly Union

Mr. Acheampong was a police commander who worked in the Volta Region as the Second in Command of the Region. He was a dedicated member of the Christian Foundation Church, a native of Sunyani known by all to be very kind. He proposed marriage to Abital, and after Abital had done a little background check about him, she was convinced to settle down with him.

A Divided Household

After the marriage, Abital and her two sons couldn't join Mr. Acheampong at his place of work because she was the then manager of the Zenith Bank, Sunyani Branch. Although her husband was not staying with her and their two kids, the couple lived as if they were under one roof. Her husband visited them occasionally to check on them and to fulfill his duty as a husband and a father. He made his children feel the real love of a father. His attitude toward the kids didn't even show they were not his biological kids.

The Prophecy

Nemuel and Samuel grew up in a very loving and caring home. Their mother gave them the best of everything and trained them according to the norms expected of every good Christian. As members of the Christian Foundation Church, they were regular at church service and were active in Bible study discussions. The head pastor, Rev. Sampson Agyei Kodie, was a very powerful man of God. He had foretold the future of Nemuel and Samuel. According to him, Nemuel was going to be a pastor, and Samuel was going to be an honorable politician in Ghana. He added that was what God had revealed to him about Abital's twins, but their mother needed to pray hard if she wanted to see that beautiful fate someday.

Samuel: The Seed of Righteousness

Samuel had been a very good and obedient child, following almost every rule and instruction given to him. He always went to church with his mom. He attended Bible study classes even when his mother was busy and couldn't go with him. He read his Bible all the time and never forgot to read his books for academic excellence too.

At the primary school, Samuel began to parade himself as a politician by taking up leadership roles. He became a charismatic leader, pulling many followers for himself through his speeches and actions. In fact, his mates saw him as the 'Mandela' of their generation.

Nemuel: The Thorn Unfolding

Nemuel, on the other hand, mastered the direct opposite of what had been prophesied about him. Nemuel, at a tender age, began to exhibit scoundrel behavior in school, bullying his colleagues and stealing from them all the time, rebelling against anyone who tried to stand his way. He used to dodge children's services and would sometimes pretend to be sick just for his mother to leave him at home when going to church. He did the same when he didn't feel like going to school. He would neither read his Bible nor learn his books for academic excellence. Abital was always getting bad exam results of her son from school and bad reports about him from her neighbors. Sometimes he would follow friends outside the classroom to go and sit in isolated places just to talk about unnecessary things relating to sleeping around with girls and discuss the best ways to allure girls into bed. In fact, Nemuel became more of a problem to his mother with time.

A Mother's Desperation

She tried persuading her son to understand the benefits of living an honorable life in society, but that did not dissuade Nemuel from his deadly path. Abital resorted to finding stringent ways to curb her son's notorious behavior. When things proved to be more uncontrollable than she thought, she reported him to her pastor, Rev. Sampson Agyei Kodie, to support her in prayers.

Rev. Sampson Agyei Kodie made her understand why she didn't have to sleep but to pray constantly for her sons' future. He added that her two sons had a bright future, but it was not going to come on a silver platter. This was why she should never give up on prayer about her children's present behavior and their future glory.

Unanswered Prayers

Abital, upon hearing these words of encouragement, went home and got on her knees, constantly praying for her children, especially Nemuel, to get on the right path and to take hold of the glory laid before him as a pastor. Abital held on to her faith and prayed for months, but she realized Nemuel's attitude was rather getting worse than before.

Chapter 5: Paths Divided

The Breaking Point

Abital got devastated and sick about her son's insolent behavior. A week never passed by without Abital hurrying into people's homes to either pay for damage caused or hospital bills for injury caused by her son. The recent one that traumatized her was when he and his notorious gang caused disorder in school, going from class to class and destroyed some school properties. He and his friends were put on indefinite suspension.

A Father's Intervention

She invited her husband home to come and put some sense into Nemuel's head, although it wasn't the first time Mr. Acheampong had come home to play his part in Nemuel's restoration. Mr. Acheampong came home more agitated, wanting to put things in order once and for all. He advised his wife that Nemuel should be handed over to the police to be whipped for some days, to put some fear into him. He translated his idea into action by giving Nemuel to his closest friend who works at the Sunyani Regional Police Headquarters.

The Custody of Fear

Nemuel was held in police custody for three days. He was flogged, tortured, and maltreated. On the third day, he went without food from morning till ten o'clock late in the night when he was released and brought home. He wasn't fed that night until the next morning.

Temporary Respite

This approach made Nemuel soothe his behavior for some time. Although there were few unpleasant reports about him, it was however better than the previous ones. Nemuel managed to keep himself under the school's instructions and got to his final year.

Graduation and Divergence

A year later, they both graduated from Junior High School. Samuel passed his exams with distinction; Nemuel, however, did worse but was able to get a school through his mother's struggles.

Samuel's Ascendancy

At the senior high school, Samuel took to his God-fearing ways and joined the Student Scripture Union and the school prayer tower. He vied for the position of the senior boys' Prefect and won during his second year. He was successful in both his academics and church activities.

Nemuel's Descent

Nemuel had also taken to his own ways of doing things; this time, he joined a gang of weed smokers, alcoholics, and occultists. Although his mother sternly warned him against putting up any of such behaviors while he was there, he was mad at every sort of evil one could think of. He and his gang sometimes sneaked to town to blitz people and robbed them of their phones and money by the roadside. If they chanced upon a young girl walking in an isolated place, they would grab her, rape her, and run back to school.

A Campus Plague

His conduct got out of hand, and news about him and his bunch of rascals got to every corner of their campus. They were always monitored, caught sometimes, punished often, and suspended at times. However, none of these was able to distract them from carrying out their vices. Abital tried placing him under the care of some tutors in the school, but no tutor troubled himself to accept such "trouble" because he would be in trouble all the time should he accept her request.

Addiction and Apathy

Nemuel was more addicted to his vices than verses of his Bible and pages of his books and found no reason to be serious with God or academics throughout his three years' stay on campus.

The Crossroads of Destiny

Upon graduation, Samuel passed with a very good grade and furthered to the university to pursue his dreams. Nemuel failed his final exams and told his mother he had given up on schooling. He told his mother he wanted to join his friends on the streets and do business with them. His mother had planned to let him learn a trade, "Maybe it will keep him busy until his calling comes." But he insisted on doing business with his friends on the streets, though the kind of business and the amount of capital to start with, he was not willing to disclose to his probing mother.

The Final Break

Nemuel packed out of the house one morning to meet his gang when his mother had gone to work. They met him and took him to the place in which they lived. It looked like an abandoned place or ghetto. They brought a bag full of guns and oriented him on his new occupation and how to flourish in it.

Chapter 6: The Street's Embrace

Samuel's Vision Takes Shape

Samuel grew to be more mature in Christ. He took a paradigm shift in the political arena, preaching Christ in politics. Samuel's ideology was for true men of God to take charge of the political scene and govern the country. According to him, that was the only way the nation was going to be ruled with integrity and honesty to see development in every sphere of the economy.

He developed a central theme in his crusade: "Replacing the Rot with the Just." He started a great campaign to get Spirit-filled Christians into politics and to govern the nation. Soon, his campaign spread everywhere within and outside the country, and he gained thousands of followers willing to support his vision.

The Birth of a Movement

He formed an alliance movement made up of head pastors of renowned Churches across the country. He got support from these followers to turn his movement into a political party by meeting the requirements of a political party as outlined in the constitution of the country. They set a date to choose party leaders from District to Regional and to the National levels and finally a flagbearer of their party. They registered the party's name as "Rectitude Ghana Movement (RGM)."

Crusade for Change

In their bid to popularize themselves and win the heart of all Christians and even non-believers—who would no way resist true leaders who have the nation at heart—they mounted a national crusade to preach their message to the people. In that crusade, they didn't leave out the gospel, which would make all the people honest if it is embraced. They won many souls for Christ through that crusade. From time to time, they carried out this activity as they journeyed along, choosing their party leaders.

The Ghetto's Grip

Nemuel was then on the streets, living his life like a 'ghetto boy.' His mother had sent news everywhere that her son was missing and had placed a handsome reward for anybody who knew his whereabouts. Some people had suspected him as a criminal and had hinted the police for his arrest, but he had become a difficult task for the police to deal with. It took the police a hectic time to mount a strategic plan to arrest him for the first time. In this arrest, no criminal charges were leveled against him, so he was handed over to his mother to take him home after signing a few documents at the station.

A Son's Betrayal

She took her son home to start reintegration therapy on him. That very night, Nemuel attempted to kill his mother when she tried counseling him. He took his mother's money and some other items belonging to his brother, who was then on a crusade trip, and left the house that very night with the items and the money. This time, Nemuel went far away from Sunyani and its nearby towns to avoid pestering from his mother. He took his gang of boys along to continue their usual theft and kidnapping activities.

Samuel's Coalition

Samuel was in a meeting with great men of God who were honorable and just in all their dealings and had proven beyond doubts to be credible. The churches they had established across the country were nurturing Spirit-filled Christians but not self-centered ones, who were only interested in possessions. In that meeting, Samuel spoke to them to bring their God-fearing attitudes and kindheartedness to help Ghanaians, both believers and non-believers, because all of them were God's flock and needed to be shepherded with love and sincerity. His message touched the hearts of these Pastors, and they all agreed to help him govern the nation in truth and with the fear of God. They set a date to pick nomination forms and to contest for the various vacant positions in the party to qualify the party as a ready team to govern the country.

A Father's Last Stand

Abital had informed her husband about Nemuel's recent action, which nearly cost her life. She told her husband how Nemuel was found and brought to the police station and how she brought him home, how he made an attempt to take her life, and how he went back to the streets with her money and his brother's items.

Mr. Acheampong asked his wife to give him a week to ask for emergency leave in order to get enough time to put things in order. He went home a week later, this time with a police car different from the one he drove all the time. Upon arriving home, he made inquiries about the whereabouts of his son and how he could bring him home and tame him. He also asked for the services of some of his friends in the police service to help him find his notorious son.

The Gathering Storm

A large crowd had gathered in a conference center at Sunyani where there was a live telecast of the ongoing event. Pastors from distinguished churches across the nation had met to vote and to take up positions in the Rectitude Ghana Movement (RGM). The position where everyone was looking up to was the position of the flagbearership of the party, where Samuel, the brain behind that great gathering, and a few other pastors were contesting for. His mother and father, together with bigwigs from their workplaces, were present to grace the occasion.

Victory and Sorrow

When the sun went down by evening, they started announcing the results through open counting. Although everyone who vied for a position was credible, there were surprises in the outcome of the election. But the candidate whose chances had been clear from day one was Samuel, emerging as the flagbearer of the Party.

Samuel went home with his mother and father. It had been ages since they all walked together like that. They were very happy not only for Samuel's victory but also for seeing themselves after a long time. In the midst of this happiness was also the sadness of Nemuel's absence. According to Abital, Samuel had been her tool of veneration on one part while Nemuel had been an instrument of humiliation for her on the other part. She had sometimes praised God for giving her a son like Samuel but had never stopped censuring God for giving him a son like Nemuel. The three of them were all at home to play their part to win the lost soul, Nemuel.

Chapter 7: Blood and Betrayal

A Father's Fateful Decision

Four days later, a call came in informing them about where Nemuel had been found plying his illicit activities. Mr. Acheampong took his car to go and search for his son. Abital advised him to wait and go the next morning since he was traveling outside Sunyani and it was almost late in the evening. He insisted on going; again, she advised him to travel in her car instead of the police car. He said it was safe to travel by a police car during the night than a private car.

The Chase Begins

Mr. Acheampong set off from the house when it was almost eight o'clock in the evening and drove out of Sunyani township heading towards Kumasi. Because he was on a search duty, he didn't drive at top speed at all, so he spent hours on the road. During that same period, Nemuel and his guys had come on the same route to carry out their operations as usual. They set up a barricade waiting for a tycoon in a VIP bus coming to Kumasi from Sunyani. They had underground informants who gave them information about every business transaction that went on during the day, within the territories of Sunyani and Kumasi, so knowing who was traveling with a huge sum of money across these routes wasn't problematic at all.

Deadly Confrontation

Nemuel and his folks saw Mr. Acheampong within a hundred meters away and knew at once that the police were coming after them. They quickly sat in their car and drove off at top speed. Mr. Acheampong, upon seeing that, chased them at once but had to get down to remove the piece of log in the middle of the road. He continued with the chase. Soon, the criminals started firing gunshots at him. He also fired back at them, trying to save his life. The chase and the shooting continued for about fifteen minutes. Then Mr. Acheampong called for backup.

A Son's Unthinkable Act

When the criminals realized that Mr. Acheampong was becoming difficult for them to deal with, they called upon Nemuel to finish the work once and for all. Nemuel was their best shooter from any viewpoint. Nemuel took the gun, stood on his feet, and gazed through the side window. He targeted his victim and shot him once. His folks gave him a clap of praise. Both cars stopped a few distances apart, and they got down to go and see what they could get from the dead policeman. Nemuel approached the car first and, upon seeing his father, fell to the ground and burst into tears.

Arrest and Aftermath

Mr. Acheampong had already called for backup during the chase, and soon the police backup team arrived at the scene. Some of the criminals ran into the bush while some were caught. Nemuel was part of those who were caught. They were sent to the police station and locked up.

A Mother's Agony

Mrs. Acheampong received a call that her husband was dead and his body had been brought to the police station. She was asked to come and identify and confirm if it was the husband's body. As she prepared to step outside with Samuel, who was then at home with her, she received another call that her son was part of the gang who shot her husband to death and they were then in police custody.

Mrs. Acheampong got to the station immediately with her son and found her husband's dead body lying on the floor in a cadaver pouch. As she was shedding tears, she was told to go and see her son as well. She went close to the cell and saw her son locked up behind the bars. Nemuel was looking very remorseful this time and had tears running down his cheeks. From his face, one could tell that he was trying to tell his mother he was sorry even though he couldn't open his mouth. Abital couldn't control herself when she saw her son in that condition. She burst into tears the more. Samuel, who was also sobbing at that time, took hold of his mother's hand and took her home.

Justice Interrupted

A few days later, the policemen went to Abital's house and informed her that the government had planned to step in and make all arrangements for her late husband's funeral. They also assured her of dealing with the criminals who were involved in the incident. They told her that in due time, they would prosecute the criminals and sentence them.

The Jailbreak

The fifth day after that bloody incident, the few criminals who were able to escape came to attack the policemen who were at the charge office. They arrived there around nine o'clock in the night with a taxi and shot the three policemen present at the office, went inside, broke the cells, and took their cohorts away.

A Nation on Alert

The news about the shooting of the three policemen and the escape of the notorious criminals spread everywhere in the country. This compelled the government to place a ransom on the heads of these criminals, that whoever found them would get such a reward.

Flight to the Border

Nemuel and his gang, knowing the police would be after them everywhere, took to the bush road and headed for the deep forest. Their plan was to cross the border between Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. The security agencies, being smart enough, centered themselves around the border. Some even entered into the bush near the border to hunt them down.

Trapped in the Bush

After three to four days, the criminals got near the border. These notorious criminals finally fell in the middle of the surrounded policemen in the bush. They were alarmed to surrender their arms and give in to arrest. Nemuel and his friends, knowing that they had been trapped and caught this time, thought it wise to surrender their weapons. They laid down their weapons and raised up their hands to concede defeat.

A Final Betrayal

Four policemen stepped forward to handcuff them, but before they could even get close to them, the criminals took their guns and showered their bullets like water on them. Then they tried to escape, but they were all shot. Nemuel was shot close to his waist and sustained a terrible injury. All of the other criminals died on the spot, but Nemuel was still alive when the policemen picked him from the floor. He was handcuffed and sent into the police car. An ambulance was called to meet the police car to take him to the hospital.

The Hospital Bed

Nemuel was sent to the Greenland Hospital in an ambulance, where he was pulled on a stretcher and led into the theater for treatment. He reached the hospital around twenty-two minutes after one in the afternoon and was immediately attended to since it was an emergency case. The doctor gave him an infusion and transfusion immediately since he had lost both water and blood. It was very surprising that even in his condition, he was still handcuffed and placed under police watch.

A Mother's Last Goodbye

He hallucinated for some minutes, then later on, he started pleading with the nurses that he should be allowed to see his mother immediately. After pleading for some time, a nurse took his mother's contact from him and called her. Abital had already prepared to come to the hospital. She had already heard the news about the shooting of her son and where he had been hospitalized on television.

A few minutes later, she arrived at the hospital. It was thirty-two minutes after eight in the evening. Disturbed and disheartened Abital came and sat before her son, questioning him why he had allowed himself for this to happen to him.

Deathbed Repentance

Repented Nemuel beseeched his mother to forgive him for all the troubles he had caused her and to find a place in her heart to forgive him so that he could give up his last breath and leave his aching body behind because he was in severe pains. He again asked his mother to call their head pastor, Rev. Sampson Agyei Kodie, to come and pray for him and to help him to accept Jesus Christ before he would die. The Reverend Minister came after some minutes and helped him do all he asked. Nemuel passed on shortly afterward.

Chapter 8: The Throne and the Grave

Nemuel's Fortune Unlived

Nemuel's fortune was never lived, but Samuel rose to that high level he was destined for. The Rectitude Ghana Movement (RGM) contested for a general election and won. Samuel, being their flagbearer, mounted the highest throne of the country and became President of his country.

A New Dawn for Ghana

Samuel's presidency marked a paradigm shift in Ghanaian politics. True to his campaign theme, "Replacing the Rot with the Just," he appointed Spirit-filled Christians and leaders of integrity to key positions. His administration prioritized transparency, social justice, and economic reforms rooted in biblical principles. Churches across the nation rallied behind his vision, and Ghana began to see unprecedented development in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Abital's Healing Journey

Abital, though shattered by the loss of her husband and son, found solace in her faith and her remaining family. She moved back to Twabidi, where she dedicated herself to mentoring young women who had survived trauma and single motherhood. Her story became a beacon of hope, and the Christian Foundation Church appointed her as an elder, recognizing her resilience and unwavering devotion to God.

The Funeral of Nemuel

Nemuel's body was buried in Twabidi, his hometown, in a quiet ceremony attended only by Abital, Samuel, and a few church members. Rev. Sampson Agyei Kodie officiated the service, preaching about God's mercy and the power of repentance. Abital wept silently as they lowered his casket into the ground, whispering a prayer that his soul had found peace.

Samuel's Inauguration Speech

At his inauguration, President Samuel Acheampong stood before the nation and declared:

"Today, we choose light over darkness. We choose integrity over corruption. We choose to shepherd this nation not with greed but with love, as Christ shepherds His church. The rot ends here; the just reign begins."

The crowd erupted in applause, but Samuel's eyes lingered on his mother in the front row. She nodded, her face streaked with tears of pride and sorrow.

A Mother's Reflection

In the years that followed, Abital often visited Nemuel's grave, placing fresh flowers and praying for his soul. She never fully understood why his path had diverged so violently from the prophecy, but she clung to Rev. Kodie's words: "Destiny is a story written by God, but our choices hold the pen."

Epilogue: The Legacy of Choices

Samuel served two terms as president, leaving a legacy of ethical governance and national unity. He married a devout Christian woman, and they raised their children in the same faith Abital had instilled in him.

Abital lived to see her grandchildren grow, her heart mending slowly through service and prayer. On her deathbed at ninety years old, she whispered to Samuel: "Tell the world our story. Tell them even the darkest paths can lead to light."
