Chapter 8 - Born Assassin

Ding! Enhancement successful. Cost: 20,000 Enhancement Points.

Host's speed attribute upgraded from Chunin to Special Jonin level.

A surge of power coursed through Ye Liangnai's body, flooding his limbs with newfound agility. He tested it, darting across the room—his speed had spiked by roughly 20%. If he could enhance his strength, agility, and stamina to Special Jonin levels, he'd match their prowess. Add boosted ninjutsu, kenjutsu, and genjutsu, and he'd be the unrivaled king of that rank.

Next, he turned to his jutsu, spending 4,000 points to enhance Water Wall, Water Gun Jutsu, and Genjutsu: Binding Illusion. With his remaining 6,000 points, he poured 5,000 into Hidden Mist Jutsu, pushing it to new heights.

Terumi Mei returned from a mission, her face alight with anticipation. "Little Ye, let's see what you've cooked up in two days!"

Her excitement was infectious—she was itching for a surprise.

Ye Liangnai's grin was pure mischief. "Better brace yourself, sis."

He inhaled deeply, then moved. His speed was a blur, faster than before, closing the distance to Mei in an instant. Her eyes sharpened, her stance shifting to meet him head-on.

"Water Gun Jutsu!"

Normally, the jutsu fired a single water bullet. Ye Liangnai unleashed two, their speed blistering. Mei, prepared as she was, couldn't hide her surprise. She dodged, her movements fluid, ready to counter—

But Ye Liangnai was already there, his katana flashing. "Hawk Flash!"

Shlck!

His blade tore through Mei's chest—or so it seemed. The "Mei" dissolved into water, a clone. Behind him, the real Mei materialized, unleashing Water Style: Water Surge Wave, a roaring torrent of crushing force.

Ye Liangnai reacted instantly, casting Water Wall. The barrier shimmered—but it shattered under Mei's onslaught, the impact forcing a pained grunt from him. Her attacks are on another level.

The wave surged forward. He summoned a Water Clone, letting it take the hit as he reappeared at a distance. But Mei was relentless, already closing in. Her leg swept out, a fragrant blur of lethal grace, sending him crashing backward.

"You lose, little Ye!" she teased, her kunai gleaming as she lunged.

Ye Liangnai's body tensed, his hands flashing a single seal—'Mao'. "Genjutsu: Binding Illusion!"

Mei froze, an invisible force locking her mind and body. She broke free almost instantly, her chakra overwhelming the genjutsu, but it bought Ye Liangnai a split second.

"Water Style: Hidden Mist Jutsu!"

A suffocating fog swallowed the area, its oppressive weight drowning Mei's senses. She didn't hesitate, her hands weaving seals. As a Mist ninja, she knew how to counter her village's signature jutsu.

"Wind Style: Typhoon's Passing!"

A gale of chakra-infused wind roared outward, meant to shred the mist. But, to her shock, it barely dented Ye Liangnai's fog. The haze thinned momentarily, then surged back, thicker than before.

Mei's brow furrowed. What the—?

Ye Liangnai's voice cut through, smug and taunting. "No use, sis. My Bloodline Limit-enhanced jutsu laughs at regular ninjutsu."

Mei's lips curved into a intrigued smile. "Oh, this is fun."

Ye Liangnai's tone turned playful but sharp. "Here I come, sis. Don't trust your ears too much."

Mei's mind raced. Distorting sound? She'd seen his exam footage—his mist could twist audio cues, a deadly trick. But she was no Chunin or Genin. "That works on weaker foes, little Ye. Let's see it hold up against me."

She raised her voice, her tone a challenge. "Careful, Ye. This is a jutsu I rarely use."

Ye Liangnai froze mid-step, then accelerated toward her, his voice echoing from behind. "Rare, huh? Sounds dangerous. Can't let you pull it off, then!"

Mei's smile was radiant. "Stop me if you can."

"Boil Style: Skilled Mist Jutsu!"

She spun, spraying a cloud of scalding, corrosive acid mist toward the sound of his voice. But Ye Liangnai's taunt came from a different direction—her actual rear. "Wrong way, sis. I'm here."

A chill of danger pricked Mei's senses. Her attack had missed completely. How?!

"Impossible!" she gasped, weaving seals. A torrent of water surged behind her—Water Wall—just as Ye Liangnai's katana struck.

Shlck!

The blade sliced through the water, carving a long gash but missing Mei. She stood unharmed, her heart pounding. Her senses—her sound detection—had screamed the attack was coming from the front. Yet it came from behind, defying her perception.

This kid's mist is a nightmare, she thought. He's built for assassination.

Ye Liangnai retreated, the mist fading. He stood panting, his voice wry. "I'd love to keep going, but anymore and I'm toast. You're still leagues ahead, sis."

Mei's Boil Style mist could melt even Susanoo. Ye Liangnai wasn't delusional enough to think his body could withstand it.

Mei's eyes sparkled with pride. "You're only losing because I counter you perfectly. Anyone else? Even the Seven Ninja Swordsmen would struggle to take you down quickly."

She stepped closer, her tone warm. "Your Hidden Mist Jutsu is tailor-made for assassination, little Ye. You're a natural for the ANBU. I'm not worried about you anymore."
