He felt his consciousness was drifting in and out. Then all of a sudden it came to a sudden halt, like a car that was moving at high speed ramming into a very sturdy and reinforced building, especially when the sit belt was not in use. Yeah, the outcome of that should be easy to imagine.
He felt disoriented for a very long time, it took a while for him to come to, like an old system used in the early 90's, it was slow....annoyingly so, where it felt like you should smash it.
After a while, where he felt his head and body was filled with tons of lead. while both were heavy, the feeling was distinct from the other.
It took a while before the heavy feeling in his head faded and he felt his mind starting to run, like an old generator with oil added to it...the annoyingly harsh sound subsiding.
With his consciousness coming to, the immediate sensation was his body where there was an instinctive command from his brain for his hand to go for his head...well....It didn't work.
Heavy! Exceedingly so. Was what he could process.
Before he could further proceed.
BOOM!
That's what it felt like when he was bombarded by a plethora of Info.
After what felt like another smashable old computer unit of time,
KaBoom!
Like a strike of thunder streaking through the night sky announcing the break of Dawn.
He realized.
He was enlightened!
He had transmigrated!
His mind was processing information oh so fast, it felt like he blinked and his old ancient computer transformed into an high-end interstellar era shit....whatever that was, it was far ahead of his time.
The info that came, which he now realized were the memory of the predecessor of the body he now occupied, was messy and fragmented.
But what was particularly clear was his current situation. And Oh was it so clear.
According to the memory of the original body, there was a country under the rule of the Holy Sect, named...Chen?
He was not sure. Why? because although he received the memory, he was ultimately not the original owner.
The language of this world was both very strange and confusing even after the memory, where if you were to compare to before he came over, it would be like translating a Chinese name to English.
If you were to get down to really translating it, Instead of getting a name, you would most likely be getting a verb or so.
So although he had the memories it was still completely different form his previous world...so even with an....high-end interstellar era shit.....he felt very disoriented.
Nevertheless, every three years the State of Chen would send a group of children between the ages of 15 - 18 to become the registered disciples to the Holy Sect, and the Holy Sect would ensure that the State of Chen would have good weather and the royal family would be as stable as Mount Tai.
What a great opportunity to become an immortal cultivator right? hahaha...yeahh no.
Although the sect is called 'Holy Sect' it's through and through a demonic sect with it's reputation oh so resounding that even a dead mortal would wake up to move it's corpse if it wanted to be able to rest in peace.....hahaha, that's a joke haha.....or is it?
After all, from the perspective of recruiting disciples, it is clear that every three years, thousands of people are sent to be registered disciples of the holy Sect, but the number of formal disciples of the holy Sect has never increased significantly, it can only be said to be stable. Only the registered disciples have disappeared one after another, as if they were not going to a holy place for cultivation, but a bottomless abyss.
Just thinking about it is enough to make people shudder, right? at least all mortal in the Holy Sect sphere of influence would.
That they could even still have mortals in their domain after years and years of such exploitation without any trouble arising, would it even be a testament to their...might?... or Benevolence?
Well it is still standing till today with no sign of decline.
And today, at this very moment, the original owner was standing on the square of where thousands of children would be registered and assigned.
Oh what an immortal opportunity.
What happened to make him die? Well, he was scared to death.....shocking?...unbelivable?
How did that happen?
Well, it went like this:
"The person whose name is called comes to me."
At this time, a immortal Taoist in black with a flat expression appeared in front of everyone, holding a list in his hand and a candlestick floating beside him.
"Drop your blood into the life lamp next to me in order to light the life fire. From now on, you will be the registered disciples of my Holy Sect."
Hearing this, the square was filled with silence, no one on the scene showed joy.
It was because the people who were here had heard of the fierce reputation of Holy Sect and knew that this so-called registered disciple was a disaster rather than a blessing.
However, the Taoist in black ignored everyone's thoughts and just called out names one by one.
"Liu-ovanni"
*(how the mc thinks the name sounds like)
"...." There was silence, no one responded.
"Oh....no one?" Although it sounded like the Taoist was surprised, but looking at his flat face you really couldn't tell otherwise.
He calmly lifted his pen and crossed out the name on the list.
'Thud'
That was the sound like something heavy falling to the ground in the square, It resounded throughout the square and heart of all the children in the square.
ba-dum ba-dum ba-dum
And that was the sound of heart of the children in the square, sound oh so audible, that added with the depressing atmosphere that had been ever present since they stood here...well, the fear was so apparent with chills running through their spines like there was a pack of wild boars? galloping through it.
Yet there was both silence and stillness throughout the hall with nobody being able to move.
Yet the Taoist in black seem not to notice and went ahead to call out up to ten to twenty names before also crossing them out when no one answered.
Oh, what pitiful souls.
The fear in the square was oh so palpable it was like it condensed into a very thick viscous liquid.
The Taoist gave a look at the people standing in front of him and there was a look in his eyes that looked liked he was about to...ascend into sky?....because of the overwhelming pleasure visible in his eyes that was so very much inconsistent with his flat face.
"Oh, forgive me, I thought this batch was so tough, it turns out the restraining array was still fully operational....my bad...." he said with a so very flat tone while fiddling with a token in his hand.
"....well, it's my first time in charge of this, the last senior brother unfortunately met with a misfortune.....hmm....there, it should be partially operational now?" He said as he put down the token in his hands down and picked up the list again.
"Liam Chen."
"Here!"
The Taoist in black called out a name, and a little Taoist boy, pink lips and white teeth quickly jumped in front of the Taoist.
This little Taoist boy was very good-looking, with bright big eyes that seemed to be able to speak. The most important thing was that there was a spiritual aura between his eyebrows that even mortals could see. And judging from his expression and posture, he was smart and precocious.
If he were in the mortal world of a different domain, he would definitely be a seed of study that all major academies would scramble for. As expected, the Taoist in black was also amazed when he saw this:
"What a natural spiritual boy!"
"Master Taoist, you are too kind." The little Taoist boy, while still fearful, saluted respectfully, and with that tender childish voice, people couldn't help but feel good about him.
The Taoist in black smiled even more happily which gave people the chills, especially when considering his flat face.
"Good, very good. My Holy Sect needs talents like you!"
After the words fell, the Taoist in black picked up the pen and lightly crossed out the name of Chen on the roster.
Plop!
The next second, without any sign, the little Taoist boy who was full of spirit suddenly rolled his eyes upwards, fell to the ground, and died without a sound. His face showing both fear and confusion, like he didn't understand why he still had to die if he were talent that the Holy sect needed.
After doing all this, the Taoist in black casually ordered:
"Send the blood and flesh to the Alchemy Hall, the bones and soul to the Treasure Hall, and the internal organs to the Beast Taming Hall. Don't bury such an excellent talent."
"Oh, also get rid of the bodies on the floor"
The registered disciples on duty moved with wind with no intention of slacking, picked up the bodies and moved out like their lives depended on it.
After that, he turned to address the crowd.
"Brothers, please don't misunderstand me." the Taoist addressed with a flat face
"The Holy Sect has always valued 'value', so the only way to measure the excellence of a disciple is whether he can create enough value for the Holy Sect."
"The brother just now was born with a spirit and strong muscles and bones. He can only create the greatest value for the Holy Sect after his death, so he died."
"And brothers, I believe you all have mediocre talents. Which means you can only create value for the Holy Sect while you are alive, so you don't have to worry about these things." With a trademark flat face, he said to the crowd.
"....." The silence was so resounding in the vast square.
Oh, what an immortal Opportunity.
.....
And that's was the memory of before he came around.
How did the original owner die? well immediately the Taoist finished addressing them and picked his list.
Inexplicably, he knew his name was next, How? that's unknow.
The fear palpable in the square affecting everyone, coupled with that intuition? It was as if he could see the Grim Reaper himself, scythe in hand, stepping toward him...step...by...step...
Well, it was too much to bear so he gave up the ghost.
Sigh!...Observing a few moment of silence for the predecessor, he sighed.
They had yet to even enter the sect gate but there were already fallen brethren's, add that to the fact that nobody had yet to register even he himself was panicking.
So his situation right now was so very clear to him.
I guess this will be a quick stop before i'll be on my way. A speed through?
Oh, What A Life.
