Chapter 2 - [Zhu Clan] Accepting a Mission

Lingyun thought about those three choices, or rather, about two. Spiritual stores are basically just grocery stores with a variety of things, for many, this would be a relaxed environment where they only gotta check things once a day, with a lot of time to cultivate, but for Lingyun, this is a waste of time.

On the other hand, supervising the mine allows him to come into contact with ores and give him a chance to refine things, while the garden allows him to show his farming skills.

'Hmm, no, I should go to the mine. Although my farming skills are higher and close to a breakthrough, after all, I don't get many chances to refine. When I become a rogue cultivator again, I can just plant and farm, but refining costs a lot of initial resources.'

He said slowly "Supervising the mine sounds good. I wonder, grandfather… if it's possible to get a few ores so that I can learn to refine?"

Yeyun was about to refute but Lingyun explained "Although cultivation is important, if I don't learn a life skill, then I can't even finance my own cultivation! Grandfather, although you take care of me very well, I also know that a few cousins and uncles are unhappy with your support. As long as I can establish myself as a refiner, I can get enough resource… and, if I establish a foundation, it's better to have a skill, so that I can go further."

With a stunned look, Yeyun looked at Lingyun and felt that the last part was the real intention of this grandson of his. He was very sure that Lingyun didn't care about all these things, he was the most relaxed in interpersonal relations and could cultivate hard without any issue.

He nodded "You, you really know how to plan into the future! Haha, well, good! Alright, I will arrange for you to go to the mine. As for the ore, there are two refiners who can refine the ore into iron, one position is currently free, I will assign it to you too.

Just try it out and if you are able to do it well, it's fine to learn refining. I will pay for the lost iron. It's just black iron anyways, we still have a large storage, there is no issue with destroying a bit. Still, even if you learn, you must always remember than cultivation is key and everything else is just to help your path of cultivation!"

Lingyun nodded, he knew that for anyone else, t his was truly the case. As for him, the best situation was actually to now be lax in cultivation since he reached the late stage, and learn other things. After all, his roots aren't the highest, if he can persist for a few lifetimes and wait for two root qualifications, it will be a lot easier.

Still, having an efficient path didn't mean he had to take full efficiency – he wanted to cultivate and reaching the foundation building stage earlier is the best way. When he has two roots, he can strive for the next stage then. As long as he experiences failure a few times, he is sure he can advance to the next stage safely.

Just like now, he already experienced foundation building and was sure the chance of success was at least 10% higher, if he was in the same body and had the same situation, then the chance would rise to 20 or 30% higher.

The two grandson and grandfather chatted for a bit more until Lingyun bid farewell, walking towards another courtyard on the same peak. This peak was called the central peak where the three halls of Merit, Inheritance and Law were stationed.

The two other halls were respectively responsible for scriptures and inheritance, and enforcement of the law.

Enforcing the law means not only inside the clan, but they also enforce the law in the rest of their territory. Of course, larger organisations have a stricter structure and more halls, but these three halls are the key every organisation has to have to ensure stability.

Lingyun looked at the hall from outside, it has a total of three floors, the first for are biographies and normal books, the second had the inheritance for qi-refining cultivators, and the third had a few things of the foundation building stage cultivators, naturally it didn't have the most important inheritance, that part was sealed in the secret treasury.

He entered the inheritance hall unobstructed; he had a small jade on his belt that had the symbol of the Zhu clan, and most people knew him too.

At the entrance of the hall, there was an elder sitting and reading a book. Lingyun bowed to him and then passed by. The inheritance elder wasn't close to him and they were part of different factions, their merit hall faction was of the side branch while this elder came from the main branch.

Lingyun sighed internally as he walked up the stairs 'With such a clear difference at this stage, one can see that the clan doesn't have a high future. It's really a shame most high cultivators stay away from the lower levels the moment they advance.

What good is there by cultivating in seclusion? The two foundation building elders don't even know of the conflict that's brewing between the side branch and the main branch. Or, they might know it and just don't care because they are also from the main branch.

Alas, it's because of these things that some clans rise continuously with the passage of times, while others remain at their level until they reform or degenerate.' Although he never reached that stage, his experience told him that this clan wouldn't manage to rise very high, no matter the circumstances.

Even if he himself became an ancestor, it would be one against two, not to mention the disunity it would bring thig way. In the end, he can only ignore these things and focus on building his foundation and learning different arts, so that he has a higher chance to advance in his next life.
