Arin sat at his small desk, the gentle glow of his lamp casting shadows across the walls of his modest room. Echo, his newly healed Zubat, hung upside down from the curtain rod, her wings folded and her ears twitching as she listened to the sounds of the Safari Zone night. This was the first evening Echo would spend outside the Pokémon Center, and Arin felt a nervous excitement fluttering in his chest. He opened his battered notebook to a fresh page, determined to start their journey as partners with a plan. He wanted to do this right-for Echo, for himself, and for the promise he'd made to both of them.
Training Plan for Echo
Phase 1: Recovery & Confidence Building (Days 1–5)
• Gentle flight drills: Short, low-altitude flights in a safe, open area. Start with a few meters, gradually increase distance.
• Controlled landings: Practice landing on my arm, perches, and soft ground.
• Supersonic games: Use Supersonic to find hidden objects. Start simple, make it fun.
• Bonding: Hand-feeding, gentle grooming, and calm communication-using the Viridian power to reassure her.
• Night walks: Let Echo explore the Zone at dusk, with me nearby for safety.
Phase 2: Move Refinement & Endurance (Days 6–14)
• Leech Life drills: Target stationary objects, then moving ones.
• Astonish & Bite practice: Use sudden movements to startle dummies, practice quick nips on padded targets.
• Flight endurance: Increase flight session length and complexity.
• Supersonic mastery: Practice distinguishing between different objects and Pokémon.
• Night walks: Gradually lengthen and add gentle challenges.
Phase 3: Battle Readiness & Strategy (Weeks 3–4)
• Mock battles: Friendly sparring with other beginner Pokémon.
• Combo move training: Supersonic to disorient, followed by Astonish or Bite.
• Environmental training: Practice in different terrains and lighting.
• Emotional support: Use the Viridian power after sessions to reinforce progress.
He smiled at the page, feeling a sense of accomplishment already. Echo, as if sensing his mood, let out a soft, inquisitive chirp."Ready for your first flight drill?" Arin asked, turning in his chair.Echo fluttered down, landing lightly on his outstretched arm. Her wings trembled with anticipation."Let's start easy," Arin said gently. "Just a little hop and flap. No pressure."Echo beat her wings, hovering for a moment before landing on the back of a chair. She chirped with pride."Nice job! You're a natural," Arin praised, grinning.
They practiced a few more short flights, Echo gaining confidence with each attempt. Soon she was making little loops around the room, landing on the curtain rod, the chair, and finally Arin's shoulder."Show-off," Arin teased, and Echo gave a playful chitter, nuzzling his cheek.
After the flight drills, Arin set up a game of hide and seek. He placed a small berry under a cup on the table and encouraged Echo to use Supersonic to find it. Echo sent out a pulse, then zipped over and knocked the cup aside, snatching the berry triumphantly."Clever girl!" Arin laughed, clapping. "You're going to be a champion at this."
As the evening deepened, they went outside for a gentle walk under the stars. Echo fluttered just above Arin's head, mapping the world with her echolocation, occasionally swooping down to investigate a rustling bush or a glimmering beetle. Arin watched her, pride swelling in his chest.
They returned to Arin's room, both tired and content. He wrote a final note in his diary:
Day 1: Echo's first flights went well. She's eager, smart, and loves games. I think we're both starting to feel like a real team.
He glanced at Echo, who was already dozing upside down from the curtain rod, and smiled."Goodnight, Echo. Tomorrow, we do it all again."
