"While his Culinary skills are indeed quite strong, he's still a student. Even the Elite Ten have to participate in these assessments—naturally, he can't be an exception."
Gin Dojima stated.
He knew how strong Yuuki's Culinary skills were, but such were the rules of the assessment. He could directly exempt Yuuki from the assessment, but many people would definitely have objections.
"It's a good thing I wasn't born in the same era as him—otherwise, I'd never see the light of day! He's in my first class, which is perfect. Let me see his Culinary skills for myself!"
Hinako Inui looked at the roster in her hand.
This was her first class of students, and Yuuki was among them.
Yuuki and Megumi Tadokoro were in the same class, which was also how he was able to help her with her nervousness issues.
Entering high school, Tōtsuki didn't rearrange classes, as it wasn't necessary.
After all, just the Training Camp assessment alone would weed out a third or even half of the students. There was simply no need to rearrange classes.
....
After speaking, the alumni all headed to the lobby, prompted by Roland Chapelle.
Although they had graduated, they were still rather apprehensive when facing their instructor Roland Chapelle.
It had to be said, the pressure exerted by this strict instructor on his students could truly linger.
After the alumni appeared, just like in the original story, Kojiro Shinomiya made an example of someone, weeding out a student for wearing too much perfume.
While the excuse was a bit flimsy, this move was undoubtedly effective.
As for whether there was anything inappropriate about this, it wasn't something Yuuki should consider.
After all, he didn't care about those eliminated. As long as it didn't involve him or those close to him, he didn't want to get involved.
However, Yuuki did notice something from this incident—Kojiro Shinomiya's sense of smell was likely far superior to a normal person's.
The perfume worn by the eliminated student was admittedly strong, but with so many people present, the smells mixed together.
For Shinomiya to be able to pick out that scent among all the others and precisely pinpoint the student, it indicated his sense of smell was extraordinary.
However, it probably wasn't quite at the level of a true special ability yet.
....
"Are Tōtsuki's assessments always so strict? Expelling a student just for wearing perfume?"
On the bus heading to the assessment location, Soma Yukihira couldn't help but ask.
He, Yuuki, and Megumi Tadokoro were in the same class. However, since entering high school, Yuuki hadn't shown up for class.
And the current Soma Yukihira and Megumi weren't in the same group.
In the original story, the reason why they partnered up was that Megumi was the dead-last student everyone avoided, and Soma was the transfer student who offended everyone.
No one wanted to team up with either of them, so they were forced to form a group. But naturally, the situation now was different.
Megumi Tadokoro was second only to Erina Nakiri—undeniably top-tier, every student wanted to be on her team.
After all, being on Megumi's team practically guaranteed passing this assessment.
So Megumi had no shortage of team-up offers and naturally formed a group with another girl.
As for Soma Yukihira, no one wanted him, so he was eventually paired up with another unwanted student.
Now, Soma was pretty much carrying that team.
"Tōtsuki's system is 'survival of the fittest.' These alumni have the authority to decide which students stay or leave. So, as long as they don't go too far, Tōtsuki won't really interfere."
Yuuki explained.
Tōtsuki had a list of Elite students. As long as those expelled weren't on the list, it wasn't a big deal.
After all, those not on the list would eventually be weeded out; it was just a matter of time.
As for what happened to Megumi Tadokoro in the original story, even if Soma Yukihira hadn't stepped in, Gin Dojima had been ready to act. So Megumi was never actually at risk of failing.
"Yukihira, I know your cooking is strong, and among the current students, you're at the top. But I have to warn you, don't underestimate this Training Camp."
Yuuki said with a smile.
Soma Yukihira in the original story, because he had been overly confident and always got by easily, screwed up during the breakfast assessment.
But the breakfast assessment WAS Soma Yukihira's weak point.
Besides Culinary skills, it also tested the ability to attract customers.
While Soma had worked in his family restaurant since he was young and had plenty of experience, when it came to attracting customers, he was quite weak.
That was because Jōichirō was the main draw at the restaurant; his cooking already brought in plenty of customers.
When Soma helped out, he never had to worry about attracting customers—the dishes he made would be immediately snatched up.
That was why Soma Yukihira failed in the original story.
Of course, that was only part of the reason.
The other part was Soma's excessive arrogance—
—He always believed that he was better than the other students because he had "Real world" experience, having grown up in a restaurant.
Before experiencing this failure, even after learning about the Elite Ten and how strong they were, his superiority complex never faded.
It was only after the breakfast assessment that Soma finally realized his own shortcomings and his Culinary skills began to skyrocket.
....
After speaking, Yuuki looked in another direction, as someone was staring intently at him.
"Takumi Aldini... Is he targeting me?" Yuuki noted that the person staring at him was indeed Takumi Aldini.
Although Takumi didn't have a huge role in the original story, he was Soma Yukihira's constant rival.
He was probably targeting Yuuki because of Yuuki's victory over Terunori Kuga.
Yuuki wasn't an Elite Ten member. So, to most people, challenging Yuuki seemed much easier than challenging an Elite Ten member.
Since Yuuki beat an Elite Ten, then beating Yuuki was equivalent to beating an Elite Ten member.
So, many people set their sights on Yuuki.
Unfortunately for them, Yuuki rarely made public appearances, so those who targeted him didn't get many opportunities.
This world never lacked arrogant fools who dreamt of ascending to the top in one step—
They seemed to forget that their Culinary skills were completely incomparable to Yuuki's or those of the Elite Ten.
They still wanted to reach the peak instantly... Yuuki never bothered with these people.
