Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 19: The Price of Truth

Noha's POV

The room was a battlefield.

I could hear the heavy footsteps of my men moving through the hallways, their boots thudding against the floor, but it wasn't enough to drown out the sickening feeling in my gut. The traitor had made his move, and the damage was already done.

Lisa was still inside, safe for now, but I couldn't stop thinking about the danger that loomed over her. No matter how much I tried to protect her, it seemed the world had a way of pulling her into the storm.

The air smelled of blood and gunpowder, a bitter reminder that this life was never clean. And even though I had seen it all before, it didn't make it any easier to accept.

I had tried to shield her from this. Tried to make her believe that there was something worth saving in this chaos. But the truth was—nothing in my world was safe.

And now she knew.

Lisa's POV

I had heard the gunshots, the shouts, the chaos that was unfolding right outside the room I had been shoved into. Noha had told me to stay, but my heart pounded, and all I could think about was him.

I couldn't stay put while he was out there, fighting for our lives. I didn't care about the danger anymore. I didn't care about the bloodshed or the betrayal.

I just wanted to be with him.

I opened the door slowly, making sure I didn't make a sound. The hallways were eerily quiet for a moment, and my footsteps echoed too loudly as I moved through the house.

Noha's POV

I was closing in on the traitor. The man who had worked for me, the one I had trusted like a brother. But trust didn't mean much when it was shattered into pieces by greed and betrayal.

I rounded the corner of the hallway and saw him standing there, holding a gun to one of my men, his eyes filled with nothing but cold calculation.

He didn't even look surprised to see me.

"You should've known, Noha," he said, his voice sharp and mocking. "You can't trust anyone in this world. Not even your own."

I didn't say anything. Instead, I raised my gun, pointing it directly at his chest.

"I should've killed you a long time ago," I said, my voice calm, the weight of every word making it sting. "But I always believed in loyalty. In honor. I was wrong."

Lisa's POV

I had to find him.

My body was shaking, but I couldn't stop. Noha was somewhere in the house, somewhere in danger, and I couldn't stay locked away while the world crumbled around us.

I moved quickly, following the sounds of the chaos, my heart racing as I drew closer to the noise.

And then I saw him.

Noha was standing there, his back to me, facing the traitor. The tension in the room was palpable. The air felt thick with anticipation, like something was about to break.

Noha's POV

I could feel Lisa's presence behind me before I even turned around. Her scent, the soft sound of her footsteps. She wasn't supposed to be here.

I didn't want her to see this. Didn't want her to witness the final moments of my world crumbling.

But it was too late.

"Lisa, go back," I said, my voice hoarse, the urgency in my tone palpable. "This isn't your fight."

But she didn't listen.

She stepped forward, her eyes wide, filled with fear but also something else. Something I couldn't quite place.

"You're wrong," she said, her voice strong, cutting through the tension in the room. "This is my fight too. I'm not leaving you."

I watched her stand there, defiant and unafraid, and for the first time, I realized just how much she had changed me.

Lisa's POV

I wasn't going to let him fight alone. Not now. Not after everything we'd been through.

I could see the conflict in Noha's eyes, the desire to protect me, but I wasn't going to let him push me away. I wasn't going to let him carry this burden by himself anymore.

"Lisa," he said, his voice breaking through the chaos. "Go back to the room. It's not safe here."

But I didn't move. Instead, I stood next to him, facing the traitor, my heart pounding in my chest.

"I'm not afraid," I said, my voice steady despite the fear that gripped me. "I'm here with you."

Noha's POV

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I had spent so long trying to protect her, trying to keep her out of this world. And yet, here she was, standing beside me, ready to face the storm.

It wasn't supposed to be like this. But maybe it was time I accepted the truth—I couldn't shield her forever.

I turned back to the traitor. "You've made your choice," I said, my voice cold as ice. "Now you'll pay for it."

Lisa's POV

I could feel the tension building as the room grew colder. The air was heavy with the weight of the moment, and I didn't know what would happen next.

But I wasn't going to run.

Not anymore.

Noha's POV

I pulled the trigger.

The traitor fell to the ground, his body crumpling like a ragdoll.

The silence that followed was deafening.

I looked at Lisa, her face pale but determined. She hadn't flinched, hadn't shown any sign of fear. And for the first time, I realized that she was no longer the innocent girl who had walked into my life so many months ago.

She was something else now. Something stronger.

Something more than I could have ever imagined.

Lisa's POV

I looked at Noha, his eyes dark with the weight of everything that had just happened. There was a cold emptiness in them, but it wasn't directed at me. It was the emptiness of someone who had lost everything, someone who had been through hell and back.

But I wasn't afraid.

I was here. And I was never leaving.

Noha's POV

I couldn't believe I'd let it get this far. I couldn't believe I had dragged Lisa into this world.

But as I looked at her—standing beside me, her face set with determination—I knew that there was no turning back.

She had made her choice. And so had I.

Lisa's POV

We walked out of the room together, side by side, no words between us. The chaos still rang in the distance, but for the first time in what felt like forever, I felt a sense of calm.

Noha and I had crossed a line tonight.

And there was no going back.
