Due to the new counselor's delay, class ended about ten minutes later than usual today. Wen Yang was also called by the counselor for a chat, so by the time the two of them finished lunch and returned to the dorm, it was nearly 1 p.m.
As usual, Wen Yang pushed open the door, but he was blocked from entering.
"Shaoqing and Wang Jie aren't back yet?"
"I bet they are out causing trouble again..." Ning Chu grumbled behind him, displeased. "Wang Jie's going to get dragged down by Shaoqing sooner or later."
Wen Yang was secretly a bit envious of Wang Jie's situation, but he didn't dare say so to Ning Chu.
He pulled out his key from his pocket, unlocked the door, and stepped inside.
Black Bean, the little black cat, immediately ran over, meowing and winding itself around his legs.
Although Ning Chu usually took care of the cat, for some reason, Black Bean seemed to prefer playing with Wen Yang.
Just as he was about to crouch down to pet the little cat's head, he noticed that Ning Chu had already scooped it up.
"I feed you every day, give you water, and even clean up your poop! But you never greet me this warmly!" Ning Chu scolded Black Bean, a hint of insecurity creeping into her voice.
She was starting to feel a bit anxious—what if Black Bean turned into a cat-girl and decided to repay Wen Yang instead of her?
She was still hoping to marry Black Bean off to Zhang Shaoqing—he was rich, so the cat would definitely be well taken care of.
"You should be nicer to Shaoqing from now on; otherwise, how will he be willing to buy you those fancy cat snacks?"
Black Bean, of course, didn't understand a word she said. The cat wriggled out of her arms and dashed off into a corner of the dorm.
"Stupid cat," Ning Chu muttered, her thoughts wavering between having Black Bean neutered or marrying him off to Zhang Shaoqing.
The former would prevent future problems, and she could also test what kind of punishment she might face for disrupting the storyline. The latter would give Black Bean a good home—and Shaoqing would get a "wife."
Without dwelling on it much longer, she went to wash her face in the sun and yawned as she made her way to her bed.
"Taking a nap?"
"Yeah, wake me up at 1:50," she said, sitting at the head of the bed with her legs dangling over the edge, looking sleepy. "I can sleep for about an hour… be quiet and don't disturb me."
"Sure, sure."
Wen Yang watched as Ning Chu lazily stretched and burrowed into her blanket, and a mischievous thought crossed his mind.
Shaoqing and Wang Jie were off who-knows-where, and Ning Chu seemed like she'd fall asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Which meant… after two months of holding back, he could finally take care of some personal business.
It wasn't that he was being that inappropriate—just that he was a healthy, young man with strong energy and a few, well, needs.
Washing his underwear while having inappropriate dreams every night was exhausting, and it didn't help that he sometimes unintentionally got aroused.
Plus, Ning Chu was always nearby, tempting him with her presence, whether she realized it or not.
Wen Yang tried to justify it to himself, but he still felt guilty.
He sat down at his computer, looking for some… material, while sneaking glances at Ning Chu's bed.
If she caught him, his image in her eyes would probably be ruined.
"This isn't working…"
He muttered to himself as he clicked through movie scripts and novels, but no matter how panicked or guilty he felt, he couldn't find anything that moved him.
Normally, just a little suggestion would be enough to get him going, but now—nothing.
Was something wrong with him?
Frowning, Wen Yang continued his frantic search for material.
Meanwhile, Ning Chu lay in bed, half-asleep.
Initially, she had been so drowsy that she fell into a light slumber almost immediately. But the rapid clicks of the mouse soon pulled her back out of it.
She kept her eyes closed, debating whether to tell Wen Yang to quiet down. But she feared that if she spoke up, she'd lose the last remnants of sleepiness altogether.
So annoying~
She'd already told Wen Yang to be quiet!
After ten minutes of tossing and turning, Ning Chu opened her eyes, her drowsiness completely gone.
Annoyed, she peeked down from her bed and saw Wen Yang hunched over his computer, completely absorbed in whatever he was doing.
His body was leaning forward, and she had no idea what he was so engrossed in that it required all those frantic clicks.
Quietly slipping out of bed, she put on her slippers and stormed over to Wen Yang's side. Yet, he didn't even notice her approach.
Wen Yang suddenly caught a faint scent of something sweet—definitely from a young girl. It blended perfectly with the material on the screen, and finally, he felt something stir within him.
His eyes lit up, thinking he had found the perfect match for his current preferences, and he hurriedly downloaded the file to his phone.
"What are you doing?"
A voice suddenly sounded from behind him, freezing him in place.
A small head peeked over his shoulder, and Ning Chu let out a playful gasp, "Wow~"
"....."
Ning Chu smiled teasingly at the now stiff and clearly embarrassed Wen Yang. "What site is this~? Send me the link! This doujin's art style looks pretty good~"
Wen Yang was already mortified and hurriedly stammered, "I-I was just looking casually..."
"Go ahead, I'm not stopping you from looking."
"It's better to look at stuff like this than to be out picking up women," Ning Chu said with a huff.
"Aren't you supposed to be sleeping?"
"You clicking away on your mouse woke me up!" Ning Chu snapped, clearly annoyed.
"Uh..." Wen Yang quickly closed the webpage, feeling guilty and avoiding her gaze. "I'm not looking anymore, go back to sleep."
"I'm not sleepy anymore! You totally ruined it!" She shot him a glare, utterly exasperated, before heading to the balcony. "I'll wash my face, and then we can play a game."
"Play a game, huh..."
"Yeah, that two-player co-op game."
Wen Yang instantly perked up, relieved that he wasn't in more trouble.
He quickly started up the game and grabbed the controllers from Zhang Shaoqing's drawer.
In no time, Ning Chu returned, her face freshly washed, dragging a chair over to sit beside Wen Yang.
She perched one foot on the chair, leaning casually against the nearby ladder, and picked up the controller, ready to dominate the game.
"Come on! Work with me! Are you stupid or what?!"
"Aren't you the one who's slow?"
"Do you even want to keep playing?"
"This isn't my fault—it's you who didn't keep up with me!"
"You're kidding! You totally sabotaged me!"
When Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie returned, arms full of shopping bags, they were greeted by the sound of Ning Chu shouting.
They opened the door to the rare sight of Ning Chu and Wen Yang arguing heatedly.
"What are you guys playing that's got you so worked up? Are you two about to break up?"
Ning Chu spun around, still fuming. "This jerk pushed me off on purpose!"
"You pushed me first, didn't you?"
"That was an accident!"
After a few more rounds of bickering with Wen Yang, she finally put the controller down, calming herself. "Where did you two go?"
"We took a drive to the pet hospital and bought some stuff for Black Bean," Zhang Shaoqing explained, listing off the items: "A cat toilet, cat litter, canned food, treats, and a fence…"
Ning Chu was taken aback. "Is this Black Bean's dowry or something?"
"Dowry? What are you talking about?" Zhang Shaoqing squatted down and started assembling the cat toilet. "You brought this cat home, and you don't even take proper care of him."
Ning Chu had always been a bit casual about taking care of Black Bean—using a basin for the litter box, disposable bowls for food, no food storage container, and old clothes as the cat's bed.
Zhang Shaoqing had now gotten everything properly set up.
Zhang Shaoqing: "Stop standing there and help me set up the fence at the front and back doors."
"Hey hey~ Now Black Bean has no choice but to marry you~" Ning Chu teased.
