Soon after, Hubert kicked Cassandra and Somnus out of the house to focus on his research.
The news spread, and they held a funeral.
Hubert attended the funeral. At the funeral, he cried tears, kneeling before her grave, as all the past they shared had returned to haunt him.
Memories of them laughing and thinking of the future were taunting him at the futility of it all.
Afterwards, he rose with a determination like none before. He would not fail his love again. He would not accept her death. He would bend fate to bring her back, so they could be together once again.
Hubert secretly dug up Julia's corpse, a day after her funeral, and took the body to the laboratory. He grunted and dropped her into a test tube, filled with a green liquid.
Julia floated in the liquid.
Hubert wiped his hands and stared at her body. He whispered that he would make it up to her. He would do whatever it took. He turned away and began a new project. He had nothing else to live for except that one goal. He had nothing else to love.
A few years of research later, Hubert found a way to revive Julia. The green liquid was a key component of the resurrection.
As the moon rose, a bright green light shined from Julia as she subtly twitched. A massive amount of energy radiated in the laboratory, and papers scattered.
Hubert jumped and cheered. His hair was now grey. Upon seeing his wife move, he covered his face and proclaimed that his wife, whom he loved dearly, had returned to him. He was amazed by the spectacle.
The glass cracked.
Hubert was alarmed.
The living corpse slowly lifted its head and scratched the glass.
The test tube shattered. The green liquid spilled everywhere, and a small explosion pushed Hubert to the ground.
The living corpse fell out and onto the ground while the green liquid savagely poured out. She laid motionless.
Hubert struggled to get up and coughed.
The living corpse also got on its feet as a crown materialized on top of its head. Her silver hair floated in the air. Her clothes were torn from the resurrection. She seemed to have gained weight. She glared at Hubert, and her eyes glowed red. She bared her teeth and limped towards Hubert.
Hubert muttered that he loved her and always would.
The living corpse lunged at him and bit his shoulder while scratching his gut.
On the ground, Hubert groaned in pain, but he did not resist. He asked what his wife, his love, was doing.
His wife's living corpse groaned and consumed his flesh.
Hubert slowly lost consciousness. Nonetheless, he was happy to see his wife as strong as she was before, and he hugged her. His eyes were wide as he was eaten alive by his wife. He insisted that he loved her and always would. As he lost consciousness, he embraced his love.
The living corpse stopped.
Suddenly, Hubert's consciousness returned to him. He gasped for air. He opened his eyes and saw his wife, the living corpse, kneeling beside him.
The living corpse looked at him. She groaned and muttered that she loved him, too.
Hubert teared up as she hugged him. As he wiped his tears, he returned the hug and questioned if she really was back.
The living corpse looked at him and affirmed that she was. She stood up and helped Hubert get up.
Hubert noticed the changes to his skin and questioned what happened to him.
The living corpse explained that she converted him into her new species of monster, a zombie. She reassured that she was now the queen of the zombies, Zombie Queen, but that she would always be Hubert's wife.
As a crown appeared on his head, Hubert accepted her and became king of the zombies, Zombie King.
Zombie Queen stared into his eyes and smiled.
Zombie King did the same, and their hands touched. They would never be separated, never again.
Zombie Queen and Zombie King spent the rest of the night together.
On the next day, Zombie Queen and Zombie King roamed into the outskirts of Sillisos City.
Zombie Queen announced that she wanted to take over the world. She asserted that she and her husband could rule together, and they would have an eternal kingdom.
Zombie King was shocked, and he asked if she was serious. He wondered why.
Zombie Queen had a serious expression. She asserted that in her first life, she knew the humans were ruling the world the wrong way. She continued that she even became an assistant to a leader of the ancients.
Zombie King retorted that she was just a sacrificial pawn for them.
Zombie Queen declared that now, she saw a cruel world that needed someone not like any of them to rule.
The world needed someone like her.
Zombie Queen muttered that she would tear them down and take everything. She proclaimed that she would conquer Stribora and make it her own.
Zombie King was astonished by her proclamation. He gulped and remarked that it would be them against the world.
While a group of zombies followed them, Zombie Queen asserted that she wanted the world where only her species could thrive. She queried if he believed in her.
Zombie King paused for a moment. He was worried about their chances, but he loved her. He would follow her wherever she went. He nodded and assured that he believed in her. He continued that this time, they would accomplish it, together.
Zombie Queen's smile grew. She hugged him, and he hugged her back.
They roamed the land converting more people into zombies. They had become more powerful and more monstrous, yet their relationship was stronger than ever. Still, there was something missing. Something was different.
Now, Zombie King solemnly thought about it all, and he was full of sorrow. He reminisced the moment where he chose his daughter over his wife. He pondered that moment and realized that he loved his family. He was just worried about his future, his and Julia's children.
Memories of him with his family flashed in his mind.
His wife was different in her past life. She was satisfied. They would have done anything to protect their kids.
Hubert was foolish to let them go. He could have saved them from this. He could have saved himself and his love. He had become the very thing he, so long ago, was against.
