Chapter 2 - Jay’s love

(This takes place after the last chp (upto date) in book 3, after Jay met Drew's family )

Jayjay's POV

Coming home after school with Kuya Aries felt like a breath of normal. For once, life felt quiet. I dropped my bag by the door and collapsed onto the couch for a quick nap. Just a few minutes, I told myself.

Hours passed like seconds. When I woke up, the sun had started to dip below the skyline. Craving something sweet, I hopped onto my bike and pedaled to the nearby shop. Nothing sounded better than cold, creamy ice cream.

But I never made it inside.

"Jay!" a voice called behind me—sharp, unfamiliar.

I turned around.

Then—BAM.

Everything went black.

My eyes blinked open slowly, weighted like lead. Everything ached. But my ears worked.

I didn't move. Just listened.

Car. SUV. Rough leather under me. My hands—tied. Mouth—taped. My heart thundered.

Three voices. One driving. Two behind.

"Ryu, where we taking her?" one said.

"Boss said the site near the docks," replied Ryu. "Alexander wants her alive."

Alexander.

That name.

Why did it sound so familiar?

Kota. Julius. Ryu. They kept talking, unaware I was slowly piecing things together.

The car stopped.

Footsteps. Shuffling.

Gun clicking.

I stayed limp as they untaped my mouth and dropped me like a sack of potatoes onto the cold concrete floor.

Then silence.

I opened my eyes just enough to see where we were—an abandoned construction site. The metal walls echoed with distant cries and strained voices. Across the space, I saw

"Keifer!" I wanted to scream but didn't.

He was bleeding.

Aries. Percy. All of Section E. Even the girls—Rakki, Mica, Freya, Ella, Grace. Everyone was tied up. Bruised. Broken.

I struggled to move, but one of them yanked me by my hair and dragged me forward.

"JAY!" Aries and Percy's voices cracked. Keifer's eyes were pure panic.

They shoved me beside Freya. Mica was sobbing. Rakki looked like she was ready to explode.

Then came the devil himself.

Ryu.

Smirking, gun tucked in his jacket.

"You're all here," he said. "No one's leaving. Not today."

Keifer growled, straining against the ropes. "You've got a problem with us—fine. But let the girls go."

He looked up, eyes wild. "If you touch my Jayjay, I swear I'll make your life a living hell."

Ryu snorted. "You? Look at you." He marched up and punched Keifer so hard he spat blood.

"STOP!" I screamed, eyes blurry with tears.

Keifer groaned. "Jay…"

"You talk too much," Ryu sneered, walking toward me now. "Didn't I say silence?"

His hand gripped my jaw, then my throat. He shoved me against the wall. My breath cut off. Spots danced in my vision.

"You should've just shut up, Jasper Jean," he hissed. SLAP.

Blood dripped from my lip.

But I didn't break.

I stared into his face, fury boiling inside me. He didn't know what I could do.

While he ranted, I slid my hands free—Angelo taught me that trick when I was younger.

Big mistake, Ryu.

"You should be worried," I whispered.

"What's a girl like you gonna do?"

I smirked.

Crack.

My fist met his face.

Then my knee.

Then another punch.

And another.

He fell.

I didn't stop.

Keifer was shouting. "Jay! STOP!"

Mica was crying harder.

Rakki screamed my name.

Even Aries begged, "Please, Jay…"

But I couldn't stop.

Two men tried to grab me—I knocked them both down. Five more ran toward me. I took them on like fire in a storm.

Ryu grabbed my wrists again. But this time, I was faster.

I reached inside his jacket.

Pulled the gun.

Pointed it at his face.

"Try me," I said, voice steel. "Untie them. NOW."

He hesitated. Then obeyed.

The second everyone was free—BANG!

A shot.

But not from me.

It was… Kuya Angelo.

And behind him—Tiger. King's Ground. Kuya's friends. Reinforcements.

"MOVE IN!" someone shouted.

Ryu ran for it.

Not on my watch.

I fired.

The bullet hit his leg.

He collapsed, screaming.

Everyone froze.

Angelo grinned. "Told you not to underestimate my little warrior."

We began to leave. Angelo held my arm.

"You okay?"

"Barely. But yeah."

That's when we heard the yelling.

Keifer.

Fighting someone.

Then I saw him.

Clyde.

Keifer's uncle.

Gun in hand.

Aimed right at him.

I didn't think.

"KEIFER!!" I screamed.

He turned—too late.

I ran.

Threw myself at him.

We fell together.

BANG.

Pain exploded in my side.

Blood spilled across my shirt.

Keifer caught me.

"NO—NO NO NO! JAY!"

Everyone screamed.

Section E ran toward us.

"Jayjay, please! Stay with me!" Keifer begged, voice broken.

My hands trembled.

I touched his cheek. "I love you so much… Mark Keifer Watson."

And everything went dark.

Keifer's POV

There was blood on my hands.

Jay's blood.

On me.

In my arms.

"JAY. WAKE UP!" I begged, holding her close. "Don't do this… please…"

Yuri was yelling into the phone. "AMBULANCE! NOW!"

Everyone was frozen. Aries collapsed. Ella held him.

Even Angelo—he had tears in his eyes.

First time I ever saw that man cry.

We rushed her to the hospital. I sat in the hallway, unable to move, unable to breathe.

Doctor after doctor ran by.

"She's critical."

Critical.

My whole world was slipping away.

"God, please…" I whispered.

I don't pray. I'm not the religious type.

But for her, I begged.

"She took a bullet for me…" I broke down. "She's my everything. My life. My future Mrs. Watson…"

The others sat in silence.

Rory cried into Yuri's shoulder.

Grace and Denzel hugged.

Freya kept whispering, "She'll be okay… right?"

I wanted to believe her.

But all I could do was cry.

I stayed in that hallway all night.

Didn't sleep.

Didn't eat.

Didn't move.

When the nurse finally opened the door and said, "One person may see her…"

I ran.

I dropped beside her bed, took her hand.

"Jay… darling… please open your eyes."

I kissed her fingers.

"Why did you save me? Why you? Why not me instead?"

Tears hit the bedsheet.

"I love you, Jasper Jean… so damn much. Until the scientists find the end of the world… I'll love you."

I leaned forward, pressing my forehead to hers.

"Please don't leave me."
