Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Death

"A truck? Why is there a truck in this lane?" Camille muttered to herself on seeing the truck.

She bit her lips when she realized that truck was heading towards her.

She tried swerving so as to avoid the truck, but she couldn't. The gears of her car had been jammed.

Camille frowned, frantically trying and failing to switch lanes.

"What's happening?" She asked herself while panicking, and still trying, but it didn't work.

She raised her head when she felt light flash into her car, and her eyes widened in horror.

"No!" She exclaimed, and before long, there was a loud bang before everything faded to black for her.

A few minutes later, Camille forced herself to open her eyes, and for a moment, everything seemed blurry to her.

It was only after a few seconds she was able to return to her normal self.

She touched her forehead, and blood oozed from it, and she was attacked by a severe headache.

"What just happened?" She whispered to herself, trying to move around only to realize that she was stuck. She couldn't move her legs, but fortunately, her hands were free.

Panic washed over her instantly, and she was able to sense a foul smell. It was the smell of fuel.

"Is this how I'd die?" She asked herself, and for the first time, she felt a sense of urgency to live.

She tried opening the car's door only to find out that it was locked.

"Darn it!" She cursed, her lips trembling heavily due to the fear of the unknown.

"Calm down Camille, nothing would happen, call your brothers, they would be able to save you," she said to herself, swallowing as she doubted her words.

She didn't know if her brothers would save her as she had an intense argument with them before she left the house in a fit of fury.

They had wanted her to give her identity to someone who was totally unrelated to them, a maid's daughter.

Flashback>

"Why do you want to give her my identity? Isn't it enough that I gave her everything I had? I gave her my spot in the college exam, I gave up my room for her, I also gave her mom's prizes possession, you both cannot force me into such a corner!"

Camille cried out, tears were full in her eyes. Her shoulders trembled from the anger which she couldn't unleash.

It didn't help that her two brothers had nonchalant expressions.

Cleo stood to the side as she said, "Ethan, it is perfectly fine if she doesn't want me to have her identity, let me explain it to her."

"Camille," Cleo called out with an understanding smile, taking Camille's hands into hers.

Camille scoffed in response, snatching her hands away from her, not bothering to spare her a glance.

"Your brothers are doing this for your sake, they have enemies who are trying to kill you, it would be best for me to have your identity, that way, the enemies' attention would be on me," Cleo explained with a small smile.

"So, you are trying to tell me that you are willing to die in my place, isn't that what you are saying?" Camille asked with a sneer while folding her arms.

"Camille, watch your words," Asher threatened, his voice dangerously low.

"And why should I? Do you know what you are telling me to do? You want me to give up my identity, but for your information, that would never happen!" Camille's stance was clear, she would rather die than give up her identity.

"If you are against this, why don't you leave this house?" Asher yelled.

"Fine, I'll leave," Camille, being hot-headed, picked up her car keys, and left the mansion under the watch of the remaining three.

Flashback Ends>

"Would they even pick up my calls?" Camille asked with doubt.

But she decided to try. She felt that regardless, she would still be their little sister. They would never abandon her, or so she thought.

She dialed her first brother's line, there was no answer. She tried her second brother's line, but there was no response.

By this time, fear was already clawing its way into her heart. She breathed out, before trying again, and with each trial, her heart slowly lost its fire.

The smell of the fuel was already dense, and it wasn't long before the car would explode.

"Is this how I would die?" She asked herself, holding her phone close to her chest, hoping that one of her brothers would return her call.

She sat there, unable to move, unable to save herself, and she felt lost.

Slowly, a tear dropped from her eyes. The first dropped, the second dropped, before it turned into a downpour. Camille cried, she cried like she had never cried.

A few minutes later, her phone chimed, signifying that she got a message.

She immediately unlocked her phone thinking it was her brothers, but to her surprise, it was a message from Cleo.

"Why did she send me a message?" Camille asked with a confused look, but nevertheless, she still opened the message.

Camille's face dropped when she saw what it was. It was a video with a caption, "I finally get to have your brothers, don't you think I look good being their sister?"

Camille swallowed, playing the video with shaky hands.

Once the video was played, her shoulders trembled as she cried heavily. In the video, her brothers were introducing Cleo as their sister.

They looked happy, and Cleo had an obedient smile on her face with her brothers having looks of adoration while patting her head.

"They always stared at me that way, when did things change?" Camille whispered to herself, her face wet ⁸with tears.

There was another message from Cleo, and it read, "Camille, just stay away, your brothers are mine now, I hope you liked the gift I sent you." There was a smiley emoji at the end.

For a moment, Camille didn't understand what she was saying. It was only after a few seconds she understood what Cleo was trying to say.

With shaky hands and a heavy heart, Camille typed, "are you the one responsible for my accident?"

She got a response instantly, "it seems you aren't that dumb, don't worry, I'll take care of your brothers for you, and they will dote on me."

Camille chuckled in self-mockery and self-pity. She couldn't cry anymore.

"I guess I tried so hard to win their nonexistent affection," she whispered, her voice hoarse with helplessness and hurt.

"Mom, dad, your daughter is coming to meet you, accept me, okay?" Camille closed her eyes, allowing the pain to wash over.

Before long, there was a loud explosion. The car caught fire, and Camille allowed the flames to engulf her. She wasn't willing to live anymore.

From that day, Camille Leroy ceased to exist.
