"She's different from other demons," Shin Arashi said firmly, eyes locked on Giyu. "She has the potential to become human again—so you can't kill her!"
His words stunned both Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro. Tanjiro was the happiest of all—after all, Nezuko was the only family he had left, so naturally, he wanted his sister to become human again.
"Really? Senior, are you serious? Can you really turn my sister back into a human?" Tanjiro asked eagerly, his voice trembling with hope.
Shin didn't respond to Tanjiro right away. His gaze remained fixed on Giyu, watching his every move. Nezuko was still in Giyu's grip—one wrong twitch, and things could go fatally wrong.
On the other hand, while Giyu was clearly surprised by Shin's declaration, his eyes narrowed in doubt.
"Turning a demon back into a human…? If that were truly possible," he thought, "the Demon Slayer Corps would've found a way long ago."
Still, Shin's calm tone, his conviction—it made Giyu hesitate. His instincts told him this man wasn't lying, but his logic couldn't fully accept it.
"Tell me your method," Giyu said at last, keeping his voice level.
Shin sighed internally. "This guy's hard to convince."
Of course, he didn't actually know how to turn Nezuko human again. The only reason he made such a claim was because the system's mission made it clear: turning Nezuko back was possible.
"A mission this important wouldn't be based on a lie," he reasoned. "The system wouldn't give me an impossible task."
So, with a calm breath, he answered, "I'm still working out the details. But don't worry—she won't hurt anyone while I'm around. Here, let's test it."
Shin's tone sharpened with confidence as he pointed to Tanjiro.
"Let this girl go. See if she tries to attack the boy. He said himself his sister won't eat people—here's the chance to prove it. If she lunges, fine—you win. Kill her. No one will question you." He paused. "But if she doesn't—then I win. And you let her go."
The silence that followed was heavy.
Giyu hadn't expected Shin to make such a bold gamble. To use a human—Tanjiro—as a test? It felt heartless. Yet… it was also a clear solution.
Shin, sensing Giyu's hesitation, turned to Tanjiro, "Kid, time to prove your sister won't eat people. If you really believe in her… then step up and show it."
Tanjiro blinked, startled by the sudden challenge. But then his eyes steadied. "Okay! I believe in my sister—and I believe in you, Senior!" he declared, nodding firmly.
Shin gave him a quick smile, then turned back to Giyu with a glance that said, Your move.
Still, Giyu didn't release Nezuko.
"What's wrong?" Shin asked coolly. "With your skills, you're afraid you couldn't save the boy even if she tried something? Worst case, the kid gets scratched and learns a lesson."
That pushed Giyu over the edge.
With a deep breath, he slowly let go of Nezuko.
The moment she was free, Nezuko darted forward—straight toward Tanjiro.
Both Shin and Giyu tensed instinctively.
Was she attacking?
Or… was it something else?
