Chapter 2 - This Time, He Won’t Let Her Slip Away

"Congratulations on your new relationship."

Her tone was light, and the next second, she turned and walked away.

Before leaving, Wen Zhi also took off the bracelet he gave her and tossed it into the nearest trash can.

— The entire scene was caught by a man standing across the street.

Yan Zhiheng stood on the steps opposite the restaurant, fingers loosely holding a cigarette box. His deep eyes swept over the slender yet unshaken figure as she left, and the corners of his lips curved subtly.

The woman walked away with grace, while Jiang Yushen scrambled to wipe the wine from his shirt, face pale, too ashamed to even chase after her.

Yan Zhiheng looked down at the exquisite lighter in his hand, his fingers gently rubbing the metal edge.

So it was her.

The one whose name he had kept hidden for years.

The one he hadn't dared to approach, but could never let go of.

Now, she was finally single again.

His eyes followed the direction she had gone, staring at the spot where her figure disappeared around the corner. He slowly closed his hand around the lighter and slipped it into his pocket.

The night wind blew gently as he swallowed, pushing down a wave of suppressed emotion.

He had imagined meeting her again, but never like this.

— This time, he wouldn't let her slip away.

He was about to return to his car, but paused mid-step. Glancing at the lighter in his palm, he thought for a moment before putting it carefully back in his pocket.

He had just finished a dinner meeting and was about to head home when he unexpectedly witnessed the entire scene.

He recalled the look on her face — no anger, no sadness, not even a ripple of emotion.

But Yan Zhiheng knew — deep down, she must have been hurting.

She shouldn't have been treated like that.

He hid the chill in his eyes and curled his lips slightly.

Jiang Yushen, was it?

Alright. Very well.

In the depths of his dark eyes, a glint of amusement flickered.

Something discarded like trash didn't deserve to be picked up again.
