Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 : The Entrance Exams

Day 6

Rei Kanzaki stood at the gates of U.A. High School, hands in his pockets, expression neutral. The early morning sun cast long shadows across the vast courtyard as dozens of aspiring heroes buzzed with nervous energy around him.

He had arrived early—not out of excitement, but to avoid the crowds. A habit burned into him from the moment he awoke in this world with chakra and a talking system that never shut up.

System notice: Mission objective: Pass U.A. Entrance Exam.

"Yeah, I know," he muttered.

Reminder: Failure will result in mission penalties.

Rei rolled his eyes. "I'm not going to fail, System. Just stay quiet until it's over."

...Temporarily entering passive monitoring mode.

Finally.

He watched the other examinees gather in clusters—some chatting nervously, others pacing or practicing. A green-haired boy tripped on the steps. A girl with gravity-defying hair caught him with a smile. There was a tall kid with long limbs silently stretching.

Rei kept to the side.

He had no intention of making friends.

Inside, Present Mic's voice boomed through the auditorium, breaking down the rules of the practical exam. There would be various faux-villains—robotic enemies scattered across a training arena. Points were earned by destroying them.

Rei already had a plan. The system had mapped a path through the city-like exam zone where mid-level robots clustered. No need to compete with the flashy types for the big kills.

When the starting buzzer rang, Rei was already moving.

Chapter 6 has been updated and now covers Rei's recovery, his acceptance into U.A., and his first informal interaction with Midoriya. Ready to start Chapter 7 with U.A.'s first day and homeroom with Aizawa?

Chapter 6: Aftermath and Acceptance

Day 7

The morning after the entrance exam was oddly quiet.

Rei lay sprawled across the futon in the tiny one-room apartment he'd scrounged up with his first few system rewards. It wasn't much—a paper-thin wall, a flickering bulb, and a window that barely slid open—but it was his. More importantly, it had a lock.

And after yesterday, he needed somewhere to crash where a giant death robot wouldn't drop in unannounced.

He groaned and sat up. Every muscle ached like he'd been hit by a freight train.

System, diagnostic.

Minor chakra fatigue. Slight muscle overuse in lower limbs. Tendon strain at 18%. Recommend rest or light taijutsu only.

Rei scratched his head. "You're surprisingly gentle today."

System is calculating how much worse it would've been if host failed.

"Touché."

A knock came at the door.

He blinked.

No one knew where he lived. His system had intentionally scrambled his address data to avoid getting tracked by villains, hero agencies, or nosy reporters.

He crept toward the door, fingers slipping a kunai from under the tatami mat.

Another knock. Softer this time.

Rei yanked the door open.

A delivery drone hovered in front of him, carrying a sealed envelope with the U.A. logo embossed in gold.

The drone beeped. "Rei Kanzaki. Entrance Exam Results."

He snatched the envelope, signed the digital pad, and watched the drone buzz off.

He closed the door, sat cross-legged, and stared at the seal.

"Well… this is it."

He broke the seal.

A tiny projector blinked to life and hummed.

The image of All Might appeared, larger-than-life, even in hologram form.

"HA-HA-HA! YOUNG MAN!" he roared. "CONGRATULATIONS!"

Rei blinked. "Too loud…"

All Might continued, "You've passed the U.A. Entrance Exam with flying colors! Not only did you earn 48 Villain Points—one of the highest in your testing zone—but you also showed true heroism with 30 Rescue Points! That gives you a total of 78 points, ranking you 5th overall!"

Rei raised a brow. Fifth?

All Might gave a thumbs up. "We're proud to welcome you into the Hero Course, Class 1-A. Orientation starts in one week. Until then, rest up, train well, and prepare to become a true hero!"

The message ended.

Silence fell.

Rei stared at the blank wall in front of him.

System: New mission available.

Mission: Prepare for U.A. Hero Course

Tasks:

Rest and recover to full status (1 day)

Practice chakra control exercises (3 hours)

Visit a support shop to acquire a gear upgrade

Reward: +10 Chakra, +1 Taijutsu Scroll, access to Training Simulation Mode

Optional Task: Meet with at least one future classmate before school begins.

Rei stretched his arms over his head. "Looks like we're back on the grind."

Day 8 – Recovery and Training

The next day passed in a blur of light exercises and deep meditation.

Rei focused on tree-climbing and water-walking exercises. Without trees nearby, he substituted with vertical climbing using a rusted fire escape.

He also meditated to balance chakra flow and avoid over-exhaustion. The system occasionally buzzed with advice:

Adjust chakra output 3% higher in the right foot.

Correct spine posture. You're slouching like a civilian.

"Geez, thanks mom," he muttered.

By sunset, he had recovered most of his reserves.

Day 9 – The Gear Hunt

"System, I need a shop. Somewhere off-grid but high-tech."

Locating... Found: Warehouse 11, Naruhata District. Owner: Mei Hatsume, Support Course Intern.

Rei narrowed his eyes. "That girl who blew up her own hover boots in the exam?"

Correct. System analysis: 89% probability she can build chakra-compatible gear with the right incentives.

He found the warehouse surrounded by half-finished gadgets, explosive drones, and a girl with pink goggles tightening bolts on a mechanical arm.

Mei spun as he approached. "Hey! You got the face of someone who wants gear!"

"…Maybe."

Two hours and three near-death experiences later, Rei walked away with a lightweight chakra-conductive arm brace and a prototype tool pouch that could store ninja weapons in compact stasis.

Optional Tech Upgrade Achieved.

Reward: +1 Ninja Tool Unlocked: Chakra Wire Launcher

Day 10 – A Chance Meeting

Rei strolled through the park near Musutafu's central district. According to the system, one of his classmates often trained here.

He didn't have to wait long.

Izuku Midoriya was kicking at the air awkwardly, notebook in hand, analyzing his own posture.

Rei chuckled. "You planning to fight villains with that stance?"

Izuku jumped. "Wha—?! Um, h-hi!"

"You're that muttering guy from the entrance exam. You did okay."

"Y-you too! I saw your moves—they weren't flashy, but super efficient!"

"Flashy gets you killed. I prefer efficient."

They chatted a bit—awkwardly, at first—but Rei found Midoriya easy to talk to. Maybe too easy.

As the sun dipped behind the buildings, Rei stretched.

"Class starts in a few days. Don't fall behind."

Midoriya nodded, eyes gleaming. "I won't!"

Day 11

Mission complete.

Rei exhaled slowly. One step closer.

Only six more days until U.A. began.

And the real game started.
