Chapter 20 - WHERE THE PAGES SPEAK

 "Where the Pages Speak"

A soft summer night. The porch is lit with fairy lights, and the crickets hum a lullaby.

A gentle breeze rustles the trees.

Mia and Sophia sit wrapped in warm shawls, mugs of herbal tea steaming in their hands.

Between them, a small journal lies on the table, edges worn and pages softened from love.

SOPHIA

(nervously flipping through her journal)

"You know… I never really read this out loud to anyone."

MIA

(smiling gently, eyes warm)

"Me neither. But maybe tonight is a good night for it. The kind where hearts feel brave."

SOPHIA

(takes a breath and begins to read)

"Through my friendship with Mia, I've learned about the kind of love that doesn't need a reason to stay.

She's taught me that quiet loyalty, small check-ins, and belly laughs at 1 a.m. matter more than anything else…"

(She pauses, blinking back the emotion. Mia gently squeezes her hand.)

MIA

"I have one too. Can I read mine now?"

SOPHIA

(nods, voice soft)

"Please."

MIA

(opens her journal, tracing her handwriting before reading)

"One of my favorite memories is the day we printed dozens of our photos and spread them across the floor like puzzle pieces.

We laughed at our awkward poses, cried at the ones that held too much heart, and made a scrapbook of the life we've shared.

And when I gave it to you, I saw it in your eyes, you felt it too. That we've built something rare."

(She glances at Sophia, who's now dabbing her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater.)

SOPHIA

"You wrote that?"

MIA

(nodding, her voice a little choked)

"I did. And every word is still true."

SOPHIA

(takes Mia's journal and gently places it on top of her own)

"I think our journals love each other, too."

MIA

(laughs softly)

"They're soulmates, just like us."

(They both take a sip of tea, the silence between them thick with love and understanding.)

SOPHIA

"Do you think we'll still be like this in ten years?"

MIA

(grinning)

"No doubt. We'll have ten more journals, a thousand more memories, and probably still cry at the same dumb movie."

SOPHIA

"And maybe still reading our pages on a porch like this…"

MIA

"…With mugs in hand and hearts wide open."

(They clink their mugs gently, a quiet toast to the friendship that's weathered storms and basked in light.)

TOGETHER

"Here's to forever friendship."

CHEERS🥂 TO US,

THE END.
