Chapter 272 - Chapter 272: The Sadness of Popular Puppy Actors

The supporting actresses didn't mind having a "no-kid" scene with John. In fact, they were eager for it.

John wasn't just handsome—his identity and background were also powerful. He was a martial artist and Anita's brother, two attributes that commanded respect. Any one of those would be enough to make him highly admired in the industry. And if they got to work with him in any way, especially in a "no-kid" scene, it would be an even bigger bonus.

After all, Prosper Entertainment, the company Anita worked for, was a giant in the industry. If they could somehow gain favor through John, they might rise to become first-tier actresses.

Why wouldn't they be excited?

Without a second thought, John shrugged. "Since Anita doesn't have any scenes like that, I guess it's not meant to be. I wouldn't want any… unexpected incidents to happen with other women."

The actresses thought to themselves, We're not afraid of that. In fact, we're hoping for it. After all, we've worked with producers before, haven't we?

Anita, however, understood the implication of his words immediately. Her eyes narrowed, and she let out a small, knowing laugh. "So, you're saying you're not worried about 'unexpected incidents' when working with me?"

John gave her an approving look. Without missing a beat, he wrapped his arm around her waist in front of everyone and said, "You're my sister. How could I do something like that to you?"

The instant his hand touched her waist, a warm rush of energy spread through Anita, like a gentle shock. She couldn't help but tremble slightly, a flush of warmth creeping up her neck.

It was clear to everyone that it was due to John's vital energy.

Anita cursed inwardly. This old rascal is such a double-dealer. He just wanted to embarrass her. She didn't understand why Tracy and Alice said John was shy.

Trying to compose herself, Anita leaned against him, a little unsteady. Her legs felt weak, and she could only keep her posture with his arm around her.

John chuckled, deliberately loosening his grip and moving slightly aside, which only made Anita angrier.

She had to move with him to avoid losing her balance, and with a quick pinch to his waist, she scolded in a low voice, "Dare you move again!"

To the bystanders, it looked as though Anita was the one taking the initiative to lean into her brother. They were adorable—a lovely pair of siblings.

Everyone watching couldn't help but feel envious.

Seeing this, Sivan felt more and more regretful. He had never seen Anita behave so intimately with any man. If they were to act together on screen, even in a minor scene, there would be no need for a substitute. Anita could even lose her first kiss on-screen, and that would undoubtedly make headlines.

Unfortunately, John had no intention of entering the entertainment world.

After a moment, the electric sensation in Anita's body gradually faded, and she moved away from him, almost stumbling as she did.

"Anita, look at you," John teased. "It's tough for you, isn't it? You can barely stand up straight. How about I give you a few stitches to replenish your blood?"

"You old bastard," Anita muttered under her breath, glaring at him. Pretending to be all innocent—don't think I don't know what you just did to me.

If there weren't so many people around, she would have shown him who was really the elder here.

"I'm going to change my clothes," she muttered, clearly frustrated with him, as she made her way to the dressing room.

John glanced at his outfit. "I might as well change too," he said, heading off as well.

By the time he returned, Anita still hadn't finished changing. Typical girls, always dawdling, he thought.

At that moment, Faye, the lead actor, approached him. "Thanks again for earlier, bro," he said, giving John a grateful smile.

John raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean? What are you thanking me for?"

"If you had accepted Director Carter's invitation, I might've been replaced," Faye explained with a bitter smile. "You gave me a chance."

John stared at him for a moment, surprised by his candor. Faye continued, "I know deep down that you're more suited for the lead role than I am. It's clear you've got what it takes."

Faye wasn't wrong. His popularity had peaked years ago, and he had spent that time focusing on improving his acting skills. He was no longer the "puppy star" he used to be, but the industry's obsession with traffic and looks meant that actors like him were quickly replaced by fresher faces.

He had chosen to take a risk by transitioning away from his image at the peak of his fame, something that took immense courage. But now, with new stars flooding the industry every year, even seasoned actors like him were easily pushed aside for the next big thing.

Faye had already passed his peak. He had missed the chance to capitalize on his popularity, and it had cost him. The days when he could expect daily offers to act had faded, and now, he had to reach out to directors like Carter to get any work.

Despite his efforts to reinvent himself, there was still a noticeable gap between him and someone like John, who seemed to embody the perfect balance of talent, presence, and natural charm. Faye knew he wasn't at that level.

John placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him a reassuring smile. "Geniuses are always like this. But don't be discouraged. I think, if you ever get the chance, you should try for a role like the King of the Horizon."
