As I stepped out of my room, I was confronted by the most handsome boy I'd ever seen. Jade green eyes, ebony black hair that kissed his shoulders and beautiful skin. I was aware that I was aware that I probably looked really dumb right now staring at this angel. Wait a minute -
"You must be Mary", he said and flashed me a smile. My insides melted.
"Um, yeah, I am". Stupid! Is that the best I can come up with!? I put myself together and returned his smile.
"Cool. An Dune. Your stepbrother".
"!!!"
Warning bells rang in my head. I could almost see a neon danger sign flashing.
"S- Step- Brother!? How? When?".
He appeared confused and raised an elegant eyebrow.
"You've never heard of me?".
"W- Well no. Obviously. How old are you?".
"Nineteen".
Wow. So my dad had him way before I was born!? No wonder my mom was so pissed.
"Oh". Was all I could say.
"Come on. Lemme escort you to the dining room". He said and slung his arm around my shoulders. This close, I secretly inhaled his intoxicating scent. Mm. Cologne.
I was led downstairs to a room that held a table for four. The dishes were already served and I caught sight of him before I rounded the corner. Sitting at the head of the table was a man I hadn't seen nor heard from in years now. My father.
Seeing him after so long, I felt a surge of emotions. Anger, sadness and sadly, Longing. For all those years that he'd been absent in my life.
Once he saw me, he cut his conversation with Carol and smiled warmly at me.
Dune left my shoulder as 'our' dad approached us.
"Hey dad". He grinned at him.
"Hey son, how was your day?".
"He shrugged, " Y'know, boring ". Dune walked to his seat, leaving me to face 'him' alone. Noo!
"Mary". My father acknowledged with a smile. A contagious smile and despite myself, I felt my resolve slipping and returned his smile.
"Dad".
He pulled me into a warm hug and I melted against him embracing him back.
"I missed you", he whispered lovingly to me and I felt all my ill feelings towards him slip away. He finally let me go.
"Well , am sure you've already met Carol and Dune, your brother. Come sit with us". I sat down opposite Dune and we proceeded with dinner.
